Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. Tarot reading is an art and not a science.

Reading:

In response to the question about who or what caused Chance’s disappearance, the cards are showing me an adult male and female (or two people with these energies). I don’t know if the Knight of Swords represents Chance, but it’s possible. It may represent someone else entirely. Either way, the person in the Queen of Pentacles reversed position, and the one in the Knight of Swords position, had been experiencing ongoing conflict. The Nine of Wands is a card that depicts current and past conflict or difficulties. It depicts both people as being weary and guarded in connection with the turmoil.

The Queen of Pentacles reversed is someone who comes across as a motherly-type figure (doesn’t necessarily mean this person has a child – or multiple children) who is manipulative and ungrounded. There are many other negative attributes associated with this positioning of the Queen of Pentacles, such as jealousy and sociopathic tendencies. However, not all are going to apply in every scenario.

The Knight of Swords is coming across as someone with a younger and masculine energy. This may have nothing to do with the person’s actual age, but more to do with how they come across and behave. A person represented by this card is someone who is talkative and strong-minded. Such a person is not the type to let other people force their opinions on them and they can be stubborn about their beliefs, stance, or positions on matters which can lead to conflict or arguing. Sometimes they behave impulsively and impatiently – showing a rebellious streak at times as well.

The Two of Pentacles reversed is showing these two people as being in a situation where they were experiencing hardship and stress. The Pentacles pertains to earthly and/or financial matters and so there were likely some financial difficulties that were adding to the sense of conflict surrounding the two people depicted in the first cards. This card also denotes a lack of planning and a failure to have a good contingency plan to fall back on.

One of the people involved felt overburdened and as though they were being asked to shoulder the bulk of the blame for something – possibly relating to one of more hardships. And it shows someone admitting defeat, losing control of the situation, and giving up.

The Six of Wands reversed is showing a person who felt that they were not appreciated, and who either felt they were a failure or felt that other people treated them as such. They did not feel as though they were getting recognition for any hard work they put in or anything they did that was positive.

The Chariot reversed can indicate one of two things, or possibly both. The first is a situation that got out of control and involved aggression. Sometimes there is a revenge component associated with this card, as well as forcefulness. The second is it could depict a vehicle in which Chance traveled – or was taken – away from where he was last seen or believed to have been.

The Ace of Swords makes me think that there was a dynamic here where Chance – or someone else involved in all of this – felt compelled to assert their truth. It is almost like they were unwilling to back down on something they wanted to do or pursue. But it could also be a situation where they simply didn’t want to allow someone else to impose their own beliefs or expectations on them. It can be a realization of truth as well – something coming to light and creating a sense of clarity about a person, multiple people, or a situation.

The Ace of Cups is generally a new beginnings card or one that indicates positive occurrences relating to socializing, family, pregnancies, etc. I’m not sure how this one fits in exactly. One of the two people depicted early on might have gotten involved in some kind of side relationship. Maybe they wanted to pave the way to pursue that. It isn’t clear what was going on here. I can real only speculate about the specifics.

The Four of Cups reversed is showing someone who wanted to move on and let go of past mistakes, regrets, or grief.

The Three of Swords reversed also points to someone who is overcoming some kind of emotional trauma or grief – often pertaining to a relationship or emotion-laden situation. It is the card that comes up after someone has experienced heartbreak and is beginning to recover.

This reading could have so many different implications that depend heavily on who the people are in the first two cards: the Queen of Pentacles reversed and the Knight of Swords. The Queen of Pentacles reversed would have been someone more focused on material or financial matters, whereas the Knight of Swords is someone who is more intellectual and driven by intrinsic types of motivators. There was a disconnect here, between these two people, because they definitely had some contrasting goals.

Question: What circumstances caused Chance’s disappearance?

Row 1
8 of Wands – 2 of Pentacles – 10 of Cups

Row 2
7 of Wands – 10 of Pentacles – 6 of Wands

Row 3
Empress (reversed) – 7 of Swords (reversed) – Hanged Man (reversed)

Reading

The Eight of Wands shows a situation that unfolded quickly. Whatever the circumstances were, surrounding Chance’s disappearance, they seem to have taken place over a somewhat short period of time.

The Two of Pentacles is showing Chance as trying to balance different elements of his life – particularly those associated with monetary or material matters. It appears that there was a lot going on around him and he was attempting to focus his energies on specific aspects of his life.

The Ten of Cups shows that the surrounding circumstances involved family somehow. It’s not necessarily saying that family is directly responsible, but at a minimum there is this sense of indirect responsibility at least – if the interpretation of the cards is correct. The Ten of Cups often represents one’s home or married life. In most contexts, the card is a positive one that shows a harmonious home life. However, sometimes it merely establishes an overall picture of what a situation consisted of in terms of people and atmosphere.

The Seven of Wands shows Chance as feeling defensive. It also shows him feeling somewhat cornered and where he felt he had to defend himself, his actions, and/or his beliefs. He would have been resistant to other people blaming him or forcing their opinions on him.

Okay, there is a financial and/or material component to his disappearance. The Ten of Pentacles is a card I see in different circumstances, such as a person receiving a large amount of money or assets in the form of an inheritance. It can pertain to wills or property deeds. Those kinds of matters. I don’t know what Chance’s financial situation was or how this applies, but it does suggest some kind of foul play in connection with one or more of these types of matters.

The Six of Wands is showing someone who wants or receives recognition. I don’t know if this pertains to Chance. It can be positive in some regards but can also apply to people who do things mainly for attention or recognition. There is this sense of wanting to present a better image than what the true reality represents – in general.

The Empress reversed is a motherly figure who exhibits traits that contrast with this card in its upright position. This is usually someone who either is a mom or has attempted to have children without success. But what is interesting here is the possibility that it represents an unwanted or unplanned pregnancy. The Ace of Cups came up in the first reading and can be a pregnancy card as well. It feels like there was an infidelity situation going on here, but I don’t know who was cheating or if it is directly related to Chance’s disappearance. It might be though.

The Seven of Swords reversed can represent a person is a pathological liar, a cheater, and/or a con artist. I do want to point out that I see this card come up in readings where whoever is responsible for a person’s disappearance (or death in some instances) is caught. I’m not pointing the finger at anyone, because I don’t know who the two cards in the first reading represent, but this feels like foul play. I think these cards will mean a lot more to people close to this case too. They can probably easily identify who is involved just based on the descriptions.

The Hanged Man reversed shows that it might take some time for that to happen though. It can represent a sense of stagnation and waiting.

If someone was responsible for Chance’s disappearance, I don’t see them getting away with it. I also think there are people that already know who did it. Perhaps even someone in law enforcement who may not have enough evidence yet to act on it. I’m not sure what’s going on in the background, but if there are one or more people involved, they will likely get tripped up by their own lies. Give them plenty of rope because they will definitely hang themselves with it in time.
