Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims or facts with regard to any person or situation. I only present the possible meanings associated with the cards, as well as intuitions and impressions that I get during the reading. All readings are suppositional and should be treated as such.

Suzanne Morphew is said to have gone out to ride her bike on May 10th of 2020 – on Mother’s Day. She has reportedly not been seen since.

Question: What happened to cause Suzanne to disappear?

Row 1
Star (r) – Knight of Pentacles – The Fool
Card pulled for Knight of Pentacles: Death (r)

Row 2
Strength (r) – Justice – 5 of Pentacles

Row 3
Temperance (r) – 2 of Wands (r) – 7 of Pentacles (r)

When Suzanne disappeared, the Star reversed is showing that she wasn’t going through a great time in her life. She might have been feeling a sense of hopelessness, despair, and a lack of faith that everything would work out the way it should.

The Knight of Pentacles is a younger and more masculine type of energy (doesn’t mean it has to be a young adult or a male; that’s just the energy it projects) that is focused on the practical things in life. There’s an air of being stubborn and working slowly toward a goal. I’m not sure if this was a person in Suzanne’s life – or someone she came in contact with – or if it’s more of an energy surrounding what was going on with her. Death reversed, pulled in connection with the Knight card, could indicate a change that was forced upon someone – or an anticipated one that someone didn’t really want. It’s usually something major, such as the death of someone close or a divorce.

The Fool makes me think there was some kind of plan in place, or serious thoughts of a plan, for travel or something along those lines. I don’t know if Suzanne was planning to take a trip or embark on something new, but I’m really leaning toward some kind of travel here because the Two of Wands reversed – a card coming up – is showing the possibility of canceled plans or just poor planning in general. The Fool would be a lack of concrete planning or perhaps just not thinking everything through ahead of time. It could also be an attempt to put this all together without the benefit of having time to really plan for it.

Strength reversed is another card that makes me think that Suzanne was going through something significant and emotionally difficult. It’s another card that can indicate depression, self-esteem issues, and overall insecurity. It is also something people might get when they know they need to make a big change, but they have a lot of fear about it. Or resistance to it as Death reversed could suggest as well.

The Justice card makes me also think that maybe there was something going on with Suzanne that was coming down on her in terms of accountability – or cause-and-effect. Everyone’s actions have consequences. The card could also point to some kind of legal issue or dispute – or one that was anticipated if Suzanne were to make the changes that the other cards are suggesting she felt she needed to make, but that she also feared. It’s a major force in all of this. One of many triggers, perhaps.

The Five of Pentacles is another card suggesting some financial or material difficulty that might have been occurring or looming in the near future. It can come up when a person does not feel they have the support they need or feel left out in the cold, so to speak. I have seen it come up in situations where there is a divorce or a breakup of a relationship. We have multiple cards pointing this way and so that could be the source of her depression, as well as the indication of some kind of possible legal situation.

Temperance reversed is a card showing imbalance and conflict. Whatever was going on kind of reached a boiling point. There was a rapidly escalating situation.

The Two of Wands reversed can be equated to not taking action or canceling plans. If Suzanne was seriously considering doing something in particular – travel-related or otherwise – there was a sudden cancelation of these plans. I don’t know if it was because something happened to her or if something threw a wrench into whatever it was that she was hoping to do, but something went wrong there.

The Seven of Pentacles reversed is one of those cards that comes up when someone doesn’t finish a project they started or doesn’t follow through with something – either because they choose not to or because they are stopped from doing so by something or someone else. So did someone find out what she was planning to do and react to it? I’m truly not sure. But there was a lot of conflict, despair, and uncertainty in Suzanne’s life around the time she disappeared. I would expect people close to her to have knowledge of that. It was too significant to hide, I would think.

There are enough pentacles that cropped up to make me think there were some money problems or issues connected to all this as well. Or ones that exacerbated the situation beyond what it already was.

Question: Who caused Suzanne’s disappearance?

Row 1
9 of Pentacles – Queen of Swords (r) – Knight of Cups
Card pulled for Queen of Swords (r): Queen of Wands (r)
Card pulled for Queen of Wands (r): 4 of Swords (r)
Card pulled for the Knight of Cups: Ace of Swords (r)

Row 2
6 of Swords (r) – Knight of Wands – 7 of Wands (r)
Card pulled for Knight of Wands: Page of Cups (r)
Card pulled for Page of Cups (r): High Priestess (r)

Row 3
Tower (r) – 6 of Cups (r) – The Hermit

There are a lot of influences here and while that doesn’t mean there were multiple people involved in whatever happened to Suzanne, it’s important to consider that a lot of different people have pieces of the larger puzzle that are needed to solve it.

The Nine of Pentacles is usually associated with people that are independent and have the ability to be financially independent. There’s a sense of age and maturity that often comes with this card, though not always.

There are two Queen cards in the reversed position. The Queen of Swords reversed can be someone making accusations without necessarily having all of the information, or someone who can be prone to spreading gossip. The Queen of Wands reversed is someone who might be behaving in a jealous manner or a malicious one – someone with a bad temper and someone possibly prone to acting impulsively. It can be someone acting as a bully and someone who is extremely manipulative. While the Queen of Swords reversed energy is someone who approaches their fights using words, the Queen of Wands reversed is more action-oriented. Do one of these represent Suzanne, with the other representing someone else? Or are we looking at two totally different people creating drama for Suzanne?

The Four of Swords reversed is a card that makes me think that Suzanne was trying to find a way of coping with – or resolving – the situation she was in. But I would think that she must have felt under attack in a lot of ways, and this was definitely impacting her mental state in terms of what she felt equipped to handle.

The Knight of Cups is a younger, masculine type of energy that could represent a romantic type of proposal or a person that made that kind of gesture. The Ace of Swords reversed is some kind of idea or initial plan that for whatever reason was not coming to fruition. It was one in the really early stages of planning, and possibly not really vocalized to a lot of people yet. But it can also represent a situation where a person is not seeing what is really going on because their perception is clouded or they have been led to think one thing, when really something else is happening.

The Six of Swords reversed is someone seeing that trouble is coming and trying to delay the inevitable. It probably pertains to whoever is responsible for Suzanne’s disappearance because the main question pertains to them. But it can also be a card showing someone as feeling trapped by someone and as though they have nowhere left to run, as well as a cancelation of travel plans. It’s like if someone were confronted and cornered, is how it comes across. Literally trapped is what I keep getting.

See, I really think Suzanne had some kind of plan to leave somewhere or go on a trip or something, and someone put a stop to those plans. It feels like more than just her planning to end a relationship too. There are a lot of cards indicating travel that is either canceled or does not occur for whatever reason.

The Knight of Wands was probably someone in her life, or that she came in contact with, that she viewed positively, who was adventurous and could be romantic. It’s also someone who could be impulsive and maybe a bit of a flirt with more than one person. So I think maybe Suzanne felt swept off her feet by someone like this. But then the Page of Cups reversed is showing her as possibly receiving some kind of bad news from or about or in connection with this person. Another thing that I don’t love about this card is the hint at a situation where someone might have behaved vindictively or in a way that was exploitative in reference to this person. So is this a matter of someone different reacting to whatever was happening with this Knight person? Or is this trying to say the Knight person is someone else to consider? It can get confusing when there is so much going on in a person’s life when they disappear, or when something happens to them.

The High Priestess reversed is suggesting there were secrets involving this Knight person. There was also a sense of nostalgia. I’m not sure what that means exactly, but there is someone here that was involved in Suzanne in a way that wouldn’t have been as obvious to everyone as a known boyfriend or husband. Maybe infidelity or a secret relationship of sorts. There is this sense of secrets and betrayal from multiple sides? Or at least, that feels like it was the perception on the part of more than one person. Sometimes the High Priestess reversed is an obvious or a hidden enemy as well. Perhaps someone trusted with secrets who shouldn’t have been.

The Tower reversed is one of those cards where there is a resistance to change, but also this sense of impending doom. It’s like waiting for the other shoe to drop. Maybe the person responsible is kind of surprised they haven’t been caught or thought they would go down for this early on, and then didn’t. Maybe they were already considered a person of interest with the police, but police didn’t pursue it further. It is basically a situation that was a near disaster for this person. They almost got caught and they are concerned they might still.

The Six of Cups reversed is a weird one to come up. It’s someone who is stuck in the past. It’s usually the distant past. Someone that gets stuck on things that happened in their much earlier past. It can also be someone who is trying to rid themselves of the past or let go of it. This almost certainly pertains to whoever is responsible for Suzanne’s disappearance, but I don’t really know how this one fits in here exactly. Is it saying that Suzanne goes way back with this person? Or is it something else altogether?

The Hermit shows this person as kind of going off and doing their own thing. In a way they are probably reflecting on everything and contemplating it all. There is a sense of isolation and the seeking of solitude to process everything. They’ve disconnected from people – even though those around them might not realize it fully.

I wish I could say that I think Suzanne is okay, but if I were just to go by these readings then I would say I highly doubt that. But these are just tarot readings and as always, I hope I’m wrong in this interpretation. Time will tell on this one though.

And that’s the thing that I want to stress here… I do think time will reveal what really happened.

Prisma Reyes

Question: What happened to Prisma Reyes?

Row 1
Temperance (reversed) – 2 of Cups (reversed) – 2 of Swords

Row 2
Queen of Wands (reversed) – Magician (reversed) – The Hermit
Card pulled for the Queen of Wands (r): 10 of Pentacles (reversed)

Prisma Reyes reading – Royo tarot

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. When/if I say that something happened, in any part of a reading description, I mean that is what I am interpreting from the cards, their positions, and other related factors.

Prisma Reyes was 26 years old when she disappeared in Dallas, Texas on April 17th of 2019. Prima was captured on camera footage inside of a restaurant called E Bar hours before she was last seen. Employees at the restaurant stopped serving Prisma after engaging in what was referred to as “a short verbal disturbance”.

CCTV footage showed Prisma’s Jeep Wrangler leaving the parking lot of the restaurant and then making a right turn onto Haskell Avenue. Phone tracking indicated that she continued driving South. At a point near Haskell Avenue and Main Street, Prisma was reportedly in a road rage incident that involved another driver. Witnesses claimed a woman driving a white Jeep pointed a gun at them. Investigators have stated they believe that person was Prisma.

The events surrounding her disappearance have been confounding to her family because they do not reflect the woman that they knew. Prisma is a mother to a young child as well.

Prima was seen pulling up to the Olympus at Ross apartments, where she subsequently ran into the garage area. The last surveillance cameras known to have captured her showed Prisma standing in front of an elevator while using her phone.

The Reading:

Temperance reversed tells me that something was completely out of balance in Prisma’s life at the time of her disappearance. Other cards in the reading suggest this pertains to a relationship – most likely one of a romantic nature. She was experiencing an unusually heightened level of stress. This and other factors contributed to her behaving recklessly and responding too quickly or impulsively to problems or conflicts. Something was definitely going on here that involved at least one other person she knew.

The Two of Cups reversed builds on the above and is pointing to a particular relationship in her life that was in turmoil. Either this was someone she had already parted with, or it was a relationship on the brink of termination. There were several key imbalances in that relationship. The best word I could use to describe it, as a whole, is volatile.

The Two of Swords reversed is really hitting home that the key to her disappearance is this one particular relationship. I cannot tell if it is an ex or if it was a relationship that she needed or wanted to leave. The Two of Swords reversed reflects a mindset that is hesitant to make decisions because the person feels limited in options or does not like the options available. To Prisma, this would have felt like a no-win situation. The card can point to information coming to Prisma’s attention that was troubling to her and that caused her anxiety. This card also reiterates that she was in a state of high anxiety. Her behavior would have definitely been off as a result. Something was going on that she wasn’t openly sharing. It is possible she did share some details with people she knew and that would be something to focus on while searching for her.

The Queen of Wands reversed is a person or energy that was exhibiting negative attributes such as someone who is jealous, angry, spiteful, and manipulative. The Ten of Pentacles reversed is the card that came up in relation to the Queen court card and it is one depicting a bad situation surrounding family and/or money.

The Magician reversed shows me someone who cons and tricks people. This is a person who uses their position in one or more people’s lives to manipulate them. Such a person is highly deceptive. When the truth comes out about them, it tends to lead to volatile and explosive situations or emotions because the extent of the deceit runs deep. This card confirms that something likely came to Prisma’s attention about the relationship/person previously mentioned. She felt deceived and probably communicated as much to the individual or possibly to someone else.

The Hermit is showing me that Prisma felt she needed and wanted some time to herself to think everything through. She probably knew she was in a rough place emotionally and she had enough presence of mind to realize that withdrawing to some degree would protect her from lashing out or responding to her anxiety in ways that could be harmful.

However, the Chariot reversed tells me that some event that was not quite within her control interfered with her hopes or plans of taking some time to herself to think and self-reflect. The Chariot reversed could refer to the road rage incident that occurred; however, I am not certain on this. It was something that escalated her already troubling situation – that much I know. Another possibility is that the Chariot reverse indicates the means by which she was taken or moved from the location she was last known to be at. The card came up because it is closely linked to the circumstances so this is quite likely and it may be suggesting to pay close attention to her vehicle and/or the vehicles of any people or persons of interest.

The Six of Cups reversed is a card that often indicates some kind of movement or travel – whether it occurs willingly or against someone’s wishes. It shows me someone who is stuck in the past, or stuck thinking about the past. Which makes me think the person that came up throughout this reading is someone that she knew from the past. Intuitively, it feels like the cards are trying to drive that point home to me and so I feel compelled to state it outright.

The Three of Pentacles reversed is showing me a situation where a lack of teamwork is impacting progress in locating her and figuring out what happened to her. People involved are undermining the investigation. It’s entirely possible they are not intending to do that. I can’t tell if they are doing it out of ego or because they have a different agenda that is just not aligned with the one that others have. However, it is critical that the people involved in investigating this case some together with a common purpose: finding Prisma.

I want to say that I believe her family when they say that the behavior exhibited by Prisma on the last day she was seen is not consistent with who she is as a person. The cards are telling me she was triggered by an intensely emotionally charged situation. I feel that it is important to say this because the situation was not as it appeared. There was so much going on beneath the surface here that the public simply does not know. There is someone involved in all of this who is not being honest. This person lied and deceived Prisma – something they will do to other people as well. If anyone reading this knows who this person is, be wary of trusting anything they say. This person is a practiced manipulator according to the cards and they seem like they might be the key to solving this.

At this time, the cards will not outright tell me her exact fate. However, the reading was strong and the points were repetitive – meaning some messages were communicated clearly and likely in the hopes that the right person will receive them and understand what they mean. As always, please do not take any of the information described in the readings as fact until or unless details are proven. I am always hopeful for a positive outcome.

Maura Murray reading – Traditional Manga tarot

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. When/if I say that something happened, in any part of a reading description, I mean that is what I am interpreting from the cards, their positions, and other related factors.

Maura Murray disappeared on February 2nd of 2004. Unbeknownst to her friends and family, Maura left Boston University to drive to an unknown destination. Her vehicle was found in Woodsville, New Hampshire, in a position that suggested she crashed into an embankment. At least one man offered to help her, but she declined assistance and asked him not to call the police. She reportedly claimed to have already contacted AAA. A later investigation did not uncover evidence that she made any call to AAA. By the time police arrived at the scene, Maura had vanished, and no one had any clear indication about where she went. To date, she has not been found.

The Reading:

The reading starts with Maura in the 7 of Swords position. This card represents deceitful and misleading behavior. It refers to someone who is attempting to get away from a situation but are using lies and strategic planning to accomplish it.

The Four of Cups reversed shows Maura in a mindset where she was unhappy and depressed. She would have been looking for an escape or way to achieve happiness. She had a strong desire to start over. She was not happy with the way her life was going.

The Knight of Cups reversed appears to reference a relationship in her life that initially seemed promising but turned out to cause more distress than happiness. If she had a relationship with someone matching the reversed Knight of Cups’ personality and attributes, it conveys a situation involving false or empty promises.

The Magician reversed is the card I pulled in reference to the Knight of Cups reversed. It denotes a sense of being tricked or conned. Something came to light to make Maura see the reality of the situation. Basically, Maura felt the person in the Knight of Cups reversed position duped her in a romantic sense. It is coming up in the reading this early because it was one of many things that motivated her to seek a new start or a way to set her life on a completely different path.

Strength reversed tells me that Maura lost all confidence in herself and her abilities. She was going through a time of intense emotions and felt a great deal of fear. The negative aspects of her emotions were completely overriding anything positive in her life.

The Queen of Swords reversed is a person or energy who is deceitful, unforgiving, and bitter. Such a person would reflect an individual that was older than Maura and more experienced in terms of what they have been through in life. A lot of times, people in this position are acting in a way that was shaped by trauma they experienced in their life. The energy does not feel young enough to represent Maura. However, it could be someone her age that came across as more mature in terms of experience and knowledge. Maura had a close relationship with this person or else the influence would not have been as profound as the cards are suggesting.

The Four of Wands provides insight into who the above person could have been. The Four of Wands is a card that reflects a sense of home, family-type gatherings, and a sense of overall belonging. This would have been someone very close to Maura and I’m leaning toward saying that I feel they were related (by blood or marriage). However, they could have also been an extremely close friend.

The next card is the Page of Swords reversed. Pages can represent people, messages, or both. Swords is a fast-moving energy and so the implication here is that Maura received a message – or had a communication with – the person in the Queen position. The person in the Queen position gave Maura bad news and the delivery of it is coming across as an attempt to be hurtful or even malicious.

The motivation behind the message is reflected in the Three of Pentacles reversed. I am getting this impression of projection – where this older person was projecting their own problems and issues onto Maura. This was a person in Maura’s life who was not learning from their own past mistakes and there is this sense that they were blaming Maura for some of their problems.

The Moon reversed tells me that with regard to what happened to Maura, there are a lot of misunderstandings and a total lack of clarity. There were people and/or forces in Maura’s life that were oppressive and holding her back. She feared them and the concept of breaking free was not one that came easily because there is this element of entanglement here.

The High Priestess reversed is coming up as an indicator that events were unfolding in a way that Maura knew were not good. All of this hints at something having happened that Maura knew about or saw. It shows someone that has been ignoring their gut feelings and intuition about situations as well. I can’t make sense of it from these cards alone. There is information the public does not have that would cast Maura’s disappearance in a dramatically different light. There are truths pertaining to the reasons why she left the Massachusetts area that are still concealed from view.  These facts, or pieces of information, fill in major gaps.

The Five of Cups brings me to Maura’s mental state at the time of her disappearance. She was distraught, depressed, feeling emotionally unstable, and lonely. She felt really alone and isolated.

Tarot reading about what happened to Maura Murray.

The Page of Pentacles reversed represents Maura’s position and mindset after the accident. She was left feeling foolish by the accident and believed it was caused because she was irresponsible. Despite that, the Nine of Swords reversed shows that Maura had some kind of hope or light at the end of the tunnel mentality. Sometimes the Nine of Swords reversed is an indication of an offer for help – someone that sees a person experiencing the mental/emotional stress depicted in the upright part of the card and offers support or resources to try to get them through it.

The Chariot reversed, in readings such as these, usually shows me that a person’s situation turned especially dark while they were in a vehicle – or somehow in relation to the vehicle. What seems known about Maura’s disappearance is that her car was found looking as though it had crashed.

The Knight of Pentacles reversed seems to be the person or resource offered to Maura. However, the Two of Wands reversed tells me that she did not accept it. She wanted to try to avoid unnecessary risks at that point and she was trying to play it safe.

The Queen of Swords card emerges next and shows me another person involved in this aspect of the situation in some way. A person matching the attributes of the Queen of Swords in an upright position came into the picture. The Seven of Pentacles confirms that this was someone older – someone at retirement age or approaching it.

The Four of Cups reversed is showing Maura as continuing to resist assistance. I don’t know if the person in the Queen position was related to the one representing the Knight in any way, and so I can’t tell if there was one offer of assistance or two. Either way, she turned down whatever was offered. An unfortunate aspect of this reading is that the offers she received thus far do not point to people with bad motives. They may have legitimately offered her help if she had agreed to take it. But she was likely uneasy about it, and she probably didn’t want her whereabouts to get back to people she knew.

The Knight of Cups is the next person she encountered. The energy of this card is someone closer to Maura’s age at the time and someone who came across as kind and sensitive. The person offered an opportunity for freedom from Maura’s immediate situation. With the Fool upright, there is the expectation that whatever, or whoever, it is associated with offers a new adventure. Perhaps something about this person set Maura at ease. What is really odd, to me, is why Maura declined the other offers for assistance and then decided to accept this one. The question that might offer true insight into who took her is why did she say yes to this person specifically? Why did this person seem safe to her?

The Sun reversed, in this case, shows Maura as experiencing some of the opposite aspects of the Sun card in its upright position. Instead of the Sun reflecting a time in which the light shines after a dark time, it is an indicator that the darkness continued. Maura’s situation turned into one where she may have felt she had been unrealistic in her goals and that the outcome she foresaw previously would not happen.

The Four of Pentacles represents a situation where someone is guarded and clinging to their possessions. The person does not want to let go because they are afraid of loss. I am not completely sure how this card factors into all of this because I don’t know if it represents Maura or the other person. Maybe they did something bad to Maura that made them feel they needed to go even further with the situation to protect themselves and their material possessions. That last part is speculation because the card could mean anything similar to that effect.

Justice in the reversed position shows the outcome to this situation as being completely out of Maura’s favor. While I typically do not get cards that absolutely tell me whether a person is alive or deceased, the progression of readings can clue me in to whether the outcome was good or bad. Justice reversed tells me that the situation has not been resolved in a fair manner as it pertains directly to Maura (since my focus was on her for these readings). People already know this about her case because it is unsolved. No one knows what happened to her yet.

I have no way to know what happened for certain. Please do not take any of the information described in the readings as fact until or unless details are proven. I would love to see a happy ending for Maura and those that love her. That is always my deepest hope!

Brandi Wells – Traditional Manga tarot

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. When/if I say that something happened, in any part of a reading description, I mean that is what I am interpreting from the cards, their positions, and other related factors.

On August 2nd of 2006, Brandi Wells went to a nightclub called Graham Central Station that was located in Longview, Texas. She was 26 years old at the time. Brandi drove to the club from her mom’s house in Tyler, Texas. She was visiting her mom that evening, but she lived with a roommate in Brownsboro. The club was about a 30 or 45-minute drive away (I saw a couple of different estimates on this). She had asked her sister if she wanted to go with her, but her sister didn’t feel well and decided to stay home. Brandi’s mom initially thought that Brandi had gone to a club closer to home and only found out after her daughter disappeared that it was one located about a half hour or more away.

Brandi had asked to borrow her mom’s car because her own did not have a lot of gas remaining. Her mom’s car didn’t either and so Brandi took her own vehicle, a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. Brandi made a stop on her way to the club at a bowling alley where a friend of the family worked. She spent some time there, talking with the friend about her plans. Brandi experienced some challenges when trying to find the club and had to call the establishment for directions. She arrived around 10:30 pm and stayed until about 12:30 am.

It is not clear whether Brandi drank that night, but no witnesses ever described her as appearing intoxicated. She interacted with several people at the club and apparently hinted to some of them that she was almost out of gas. Club surveillance footage showed her leaving the club – apparently on her own – shortly after midnight. By Thursday evening, Brandi’s roommate became concerned about her whereabouts. On Friday, after receiving no response to her calls and text messages, Brandi’s mom reported her daughter missing.

Initially, her mom thought she had gone to a local club called the Electric Cowboy, but Brandi’s sister realized her mom was mistaken on this point and told her Brandi had gone to Graham Central Station. Brandi’s mom was advised to contact the Longview Police Department due to the location of the club where her daughter was last seen.

One of Brandi’s friends made the trip to Longview to see if she could find her friend or her vehicle. Before Brandi had been reported missing, a trooper had already found the car on the side of Interstate 20, a short distance outside of Longview. The car was pulled off the highway and the driver side door had been left partly open. The trooper ran the plates but nothing came up and so he tagged it as abandoned. The car sat there for five days before it was searched for evidence.

Inside the car, the driver’s seat of the vehicle was pushed back further as though someone much taller than Brandi – who was 4’11” – had driven it. Her wallet and purse were in the car, along with a phone that investigators initially thought was her own. The phone turned out to belong to an ex-boyfriend. A napkin containing the name and number of a man was also in the car. In the trunk of the vehicle, investigators found a gas can. Brandi’s mom did not believe the gas can belonged to her daughter.

Investigators contacted the man whose name was on the napkin. He told them he had talked with Brandi and tried to buy her a drink at the club. She had apparently declined his offer.

When investigators figured out that they did not have Brandi’s phone, they pulled the records for the one she was using (they had assumed the phone in her car was her phone). They tracked the phone to a sketchy neighborhood. A man had used the phone, claiming that it had been given to him by another person that told him they found it on the ground on the 11th of August.

Brandi has never been seen since the night she disappeared after leaving the nightclub. It appears that no further clues have been found concerning her whereabouts it. Her mother has been searching exhaustively for her daughter since she went missing.

The Reading:

The Nine of Pentacles reversed shows me that Brandi was looking for some downtime in her life. She felt that she had been working hard and wanted an opportunity to do something enjoyable where she could socialize and not have to worry about much. She might have felt like she shouldn’t go out because this card suggests some financial insecurity, such as being low on funds and spending money when you might not have much to spend, or spending when you shouldn’t because you have budgeted it for something else.

The Queen of Cups is a person in her life who was compassionate, nurturing, and intuitive. I am seeing this person as representing her mother because she appears to have been the last family member to have an interaction with Brandi and though they probably had their differences, the Queen card suggests that her mom was really tuned into her daughter.

I pulled The Empress reversed in relation to the Queen card. It appears there was a dynamic that might have contributed to Brandi leaving out the fact that she was planning to go to a club that wasn’t local. I am not seeing Brandi as a deceitful person. It was more like a “don’t ask and I won’t have to tell you” kind of situation. The whole of the reading hints that Brandi knew that people would try to dissuade her from going, but she genuinely felt that she could handle it and for some reason she was really intent on going to this specific club. So to avoid conflict, and that back and forth where she knew her mom would try to talk her out of it, she omitted that information.

The Ace of Swords shows her as reaching a point in her life where she was beginning to focus on some of the things she felt were still missing in her life. She was getting a better idea of what she wanted, and she was coming up with ideas on how she might get it. She may have had a lack of clarity on all of these matters previously, due to stress or other factors, but all of these things were coming into focus for her. That is probably one of the reasons she decided to get out and go to a club that was further away. She wanted to start something new – interact with new people, perhaps find someone she was interested in romantically, etc.

The Seven of Wands shows her in a circumstance where she felt really self-defeated. The visual I am getting is that this related to the reality that came down on her when it was time to leave the club. I am not clear on how much gas she had remaining in her vehicle, but there is a sense that she knew she needed to do something about the situation, or she wouldn’t be able to get home. Again, she doesn’t want to bring her mom into the situation because she already feels frustrated with herself.

However, something happened that change all of this and made her believe that she would get home safely. The Ten of Cups expresses these emotions and a general sense of happiness with the prospect that she is going to be returning home to her loved ones. These emotions may have overridden any worries she had about how and where she would get help.

The Page of Pentacles is the person/messenger who offered her help. This is a person that looked like they could be depended on to get her out of the situation she was in. This is likely someone she talked to at the club, or encountered outside of it, because they used her need for help as an opportunity. The Star was pulled in connection with this card which suggests Brandi thought they were offering a genuine and viable solution. This was an answer to her calls for help, is how she might have been looking at it.

The events progressed quickly as communicated by the Eight of Wands. This is a situation where Brandi probably thought the forces were aligning and that her problems would be solved. This card also suggests that whoever she encountered, she met them either at the club or within a close distance outside of it. There is a fast-moving energy here.

There is a second person involved in this. The Page of Cups reversed is showing me someone who lacked maturity, was highly insecure, and was experiencing some mental health issues – or at least instability as far as their emotions and behavior are concerned. It has a different feel from the person she is described as interacting with above who seems to have offered help. I would go so far as to say one or both of these people have a criminal background and are known – among those familiar with them – as trouble. One or both is known to police for other reasons, and perhaps even with regard to this case (i.e. they might have even interviewed them for some reason).

The Sun reversed tells me that it was upon encountering this second person that Brandi began to realize the situation was not what she thought it was. She may have concluded that her own judgement had been previously clouded by her general sense of optimism. She did not feel that she had much power in the situation and she did not have a clear path from which she could escape her circumstances. She knew she was in trouble.

The final card is the Magician reversed. This card shows me someone who cons and tricks people. She was tricked into her situation – probably with an offer that they would help her get some gas – and she was taken advantage of for a completely different reason. She was manipulated and deceived – behaviors that both these men would continue to exhibit later on as well.

Question 2: Why hasn’t the person or people that did this to Brandi been caught?

I decided to go a step further with this one and ask the cards to shed some light on why the person or people (and I do believe there were two primary people involved with what I could only best describe as her abduction) have not been caught or brought to justice. I reshuffled and pulled three cards, as well as additional cards for any court cards.

Cards Pulled

King of Pentacles (reversed) – 5 of Swords (reversed) – Queen of Wands
Card pulled for the King of Pentacles (r): 5 of Pentacles
Card pulled for the Queen of Wands: 9 of Swords (reversed)

The cards are clear about the reasons why. The King of Pentacles reversed is the person that was in charge of the investigation, or the person most active in it. The cards are saying they did a sloppy job. They missed evidence and they didn’t pursue opportunities and/or leads that could have brought closure. This can be a card indicating some kind of corruption as well, but I don’t have enough background on this case to have a clue if this indicator applies. Brandi’s mom probably knows who this card is referencing and the specifics as to why.

I pulled the Five of Pentacles in relation to the person depicted by the court card. This person had help or resources at their disposal but for whatever reason, they did not fully leverage them. They tried to take on too much of the investigation on their own as well.

The Five of Swords reversed tells me that investigators got to a point where they knew – deep down at least – that the case was completely messed up. This is a card of cutting losses and it also denotes a sense of regret and remorse. So whatever happened with all this, there are people that were involved in the investigation in some capacity that feel genuine regret about the way it was handled. These are probably people separate from the person in the King position. It could have also been people dropped from the investigation who had a handle on it.

So I would say that there are people that have at some point investigated this that know a lot more than has been shared with the public.

The Queen of Wands is a person who is passionate and fiery about this case. This is a person with motherly energy. It’s probably Brandi’s mom, honestly. This person has the power and potential to drive efforts toward a resolution. My best suggestion here is some type of attempt to leverage the media – as well as people using social media platforms – to put as much pressure on the police to either get people reinvolved who were also passionate about it or assign it to someone (or multiple people) to run all of this down again – the right way.

This case can still be solved! It will take a lot of work but all it would take is a successful podcast series on the case, or something of that nature that humanizes Brandi and compels people to feel the sense of injustice that has happened here to the point where they want to get involved.

The Nine of Swords reversed is a card of recovery and can mark a time period when people are still working their way through grief, sadness, shame, and feelings of that nature. When applied to the reading as a whole, this card is saying there is hope and don’t give up. What happened to Brandi matters and justice is still possible – despite the time that has gone by. If anything, from an investigation standpoint, maybe enough time has gone by that the case can receive attention from investigators that meticulously track down leads and examine all of the evidence. Finally, one or both of the people directly involved have likely talked to others about it since enough time has gone by that they may have a false sense of security about it. A renewed investigation could help uncover that kind of information – if past parts haven’t already. I do get the sense that there is much more known to police here than we the public know.

Brandon Swanson – Dark Angels tarot

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. When/if I say that something happened, in any part of a reading description, I mean that is what I am interpreting from the cards, their positions, and other related factors.

On May 13th of 2008, Brandon Swanson attended a party to celebrate the end of the spring school semester at the Minnesota West Community and Technical College Canby campus. He was 19 years old. Reportedly he had some alcohol, but based on what I read about this case, it does not sound that he had enough to be extremely impaired. A little after midnight, on the 14th, Brandon was on his way home when he drove his car into a ditch. He had taken back roads (or service roads) instead of the main ones. He reportedly couldn’t get the vehicle out of the ditch, despite there not being much – if any – damage to the car.

Brandon contacted his parents and told them he believed he was near a town called Lynd. His parents headed out to look for Brandon so they could help him get home. However, they searched for him, where he told them he thought he was, to no avail. Brandon and his parents tried flashing their lights to see if they could spot each other but it became increasingly apparent that Brandon must have been mistaken about his location. A later investigation would reveal that he was about 25 miles away from where he thought he was. It appears that he got turned around while driving the back roads and the darkness probably exacerbated that problem.

Brandon eventually grew frustrated with waiting for his parents to find him and so he told them he was going to try to walk to town. He said he could see the lights off in the distance. Brandon walked for almost an hour, while talking to his father on the phone, before he said, “oh shit!” No further words were heard and when his parents hung up and called him back, he never answered his phone again. His father thought he heard something that sounded like Brandon’s shoe slipping when he made his last exclamation.

Brandon’s parents initially found it difficult to get the police to assist them in searching for their son. At first, an officer reportedly told them that it was Brandon’s right, as an adult, to go missing if he chose to do that. Brandon’s parents would eventually go on to lobby for new legislation that would change wording concerning missing children to missing persons so that police would take reports of missing adults more seriously. A problem, back then, pertained to concerns about privacy issues and when it was considered acceptable to investigate cell phone pings to try to track a person’s location.

Brandon remains missing to this day. Though it sounds as though the area where he disappeared has been searched more than once, I don’t know the extent or scope of those searches. At some point, a tracking dog seemed to pick up his scent in the direction of the Yellow Medicine River. The dog jumped into the water and then back out again on the other side. The river was searched, but to my knowledge, no other trace of Brandon or his phone has ever been found.

The Reading:

The first card is the Queen of Swords. This is a card that represents a person or energy that is mature and likely a female. After taking in all of the cards that displayed for this reading, I am seeing the Queen of Swords as representing Brandon’s mother. At the time of his disappearance – specifically, just before it happened and during – he was receiving input and suggestions from his mom. She comes across as someone that can balance the head and the heart so in a situation where she would have been advising Brandon about what to do, she would have come from a place of logic and reasoning. The card’s attributes suggest she would have been trying to gather information and trying to give him instructions on what to do.

The card pulled in relation to the Queen is the Page of Wands reversed. This suggests a younger energy or person. It comes across to me as representing Brandon and his mindset while speaking with his mom. He was getting frustrated over the course of their communications, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he threw one or more tantrums of sorts (not necessarily anything dramatic) because the card represents kind of a younger and less mature energy. In its reversed position it is lacking the positive attributes of the card, such as the ability to generate new ideas, a sense of happiness, etc. Brandon was frustrated and making quick decisions that probably weren’t coming across to his mom as being the best ones in that particular circumstance.

Keep in mind, his frustration appears to link directly to his situation. While reading about Brandon’s disappearance there was mention of him being in contact on an almost constant basis with his parents. They tried to locate him by going where he told them he was, but they were unable to find him. The reason for this ended up being that Brandon was not where he said he was. He was about 25 miles away – in a different direction. However, the reading as a whole does not show an intention to mislead. Instead, the cards are communicating to me that he was genuinely confused about his whereabouts and his frustration was mounting as he became increasingly disoriented. Though Brandon had been drinking alcohol that night, his mindset is not coming across as someone intoxicated. His confusion probably came from being in a dark place, in an area he was not familiar with. I don’t know if he had his glasses with him or not, but if he didn’t then his vision might have been further impaired by this as well.

The Nine of Pentacles reversed gives off the impression that he was lacking in information to complete his journey home. He was missing a piece of the puzzle, which we now know pertained to his location. He became convinced he was in one location, but he was really in another.

Brandon’s frustration eventually turned to a sense of hopelessness and fear that he might not be able to find his way home. The Star reversed shows him as someone that felt at odds with everything at the time. This was not Brandon’s usual mindset, but I would compare his feelings to someone who kind of feels like the forces of the universe are conspiring or working against them – despite all the effort they put into resolving a problem or situation.

The Nine of Cups reversed tells us that Brandon was not in a great place emotionally. The Knight of Wands reversed seems to show the progression of Brandon’s emotional state. He came to a point where he was thinking more clearly since time had gone by and the seriousness of his situation was becoming more apparent to him. He really wasn’t sure what to do and he didn’t even feel as though he had many options.

The Three of Swords, in connection to the Knight card, denotes separation and loss. It is likely this card refers to the point in which his connection to his parents was severed. When he was speaking with his father, his last words were “oh shit!” and then he thought he heard a slipping sound. Intuitively, I am linking this card with an event that cut off his ability to communicate – literally. I can only speculate about what happened, but I don’t see this as the moment that Brandon himself had an accident because I arrange my readings in such a way that they tell me the story of what happened. We are only a little beyond the halfway point. Maybe he dropped his phone into the river and tried to retrieve it. That’s a possibility given that a tracking dog briefly jumped into the river.

Whatever happened probably really jolted him. The cards indicate that he felt alone and afraid. Having the phone connection with his parents was comforting because he hoped he would reach some kind of landmark at some point that would finally give away his location. At this point, even if he reached a landmark, he did not have his parents to relay that information to and he realized it might not help him.

The Page of Cups reversed is an energy or person that is feeling emotionally vulnerable and insecure. Though I can’t be sure, the energy seems to represent Brandon’s regression back into a negative or despondent mindset – something that is understandable given the dire nature of his circumstances. He knew he was in danger, and he didn’t know how to cope with that. He was probably looking for an avenue of escape his immediate circumstances – possibly somewhere to rest and get warm while he waited for the sun to come out.

The Five of Wands reversed was pulled in relation to the Page of Cups reversed. It is somewhat confusing to me because it shows someone who wants to avoid conflict and get away from a situation quickly. I honestly don’t know what to make of this. Did he come across a house or barn or something to hide in, only to be discovered – or close to being discovered? An interesting energy I am picking up on here is an intensified sense of fear. It is almost as if Brandon would have been reluctant to reach out to a stranger for help – even if he knew one was present in the area. He already felt that everything was going against him so there could could have been this additional sense of distrust and paranoia. Also, my intuition is picking up on Brandon also worrying that someone would mistake his intentions. Basically, if this is accurate then it means he thought someone else might think he was an intruder and was trespassing for nefarious reasons. Which suggests the possibility that Brandon reached a point where there was a home, or multiple homes that were spread out.

The Two of Swords is a card that often depicts a person with their back to water. I don’t know if the cards are trying to clue me in on Brandon’s literal location or if they are depicting something he was going through. The Two of Swords is a card where the person depicted is in a situation where they feel they are only presented with difficult choices. It also denotes a sense of not being able to see what is happening (or being in denial) – which could apply figuratively and literally to Brandon. I feel like the imagery in the cards is being used to communicate information about what happened to him and where.

The Eight of Cups reversed is a reading can refer to someone that is choosing to remain in a bad situation. Intuitively, I am seeing Brandon as having chosen a location to wait in because he was tired, cold, and his visibility was extremely limited. He could have been afraid to keep going because he felt like his situation could get worse than it already was. And indeed that was a distinct possibility.

The Knight of Swords reversed is an odd card to suddenly come up toward the end and yet it did. It represents a person or energy that is scattered and devoid of logic. In extreme cases, it depicts behavior or thinking patterns that are aggressive and vicious at times. I don’t know Brandon enough to know if he was ever known to fall into such a mindset when feeling desperate and so I cannot figure out for sure whose energy the card is conveying. You wouldn’t want to run into someone like this under circumstances where they might become defensive or suspicious of your motives. That’s the feeling I get here. The energy does not feel like it is associated with Brandon at all which makes it more confusing.

I pulled the King of Swords reversed as a card associated with the Knight. This particular King card, reversed, does not depict positive energy at all. It’s worse than that associated with the Knight and it reflects a more mature energy/person in terms of age or mentality. Did something happen where Brandon encountered someone (two people even?), and an argument or disagreement ensued that ended badly? I just don’t understand why the reading is showing me this kind of energy right at the story’s apparent conclusion. If he died from the elements, or fell into a well or something like that, I wouldn’t expect to see court cards like this. I am stumped on this. The cards seem to be suggesting that at least two other people came in contact with him, and it was not under good circumstances.

I pulled the Sun as the final card. The Sun is telling me intuitively that someday it will become known where Brandon is located. The sun will shine a light on what happened. However, I don’t know if we will ever find out the whole story. If I were to search for Brandon’s location, I would look for homes that are near water. I remember reading there was a river or something along those lines in the area. Like I said before, I think he may have dropped his phone in the water which could account for him losing the ability to speak with his parents; however, I have no way to know this for certain. It could explain why one or more tracking dogs went into the river and then jumped out but the reading is not especially clear on these points.

I keep thinking back to the Two of Swords reversed and the image portrayed on that card – of a man with his back to water. A kind of weird aside to all of this is that I tried to do this reading with a different deck of cards. I used a deck that does not have much in the way of pictures or images. I wanted to use a deck that I hadn’t used for these readings yet, but I kept getting these visual pictures in my mind of the deck I ultimately used. I already had the other cards out and so I moved forward with trying to do the reading with those. I laid out the cards from the other deck and they made absolutely no sense. I kept picturing the deck that was in my mind before I started the reading, and I finally gave in and used the deck you see in the above picture. At first, I couldn’t figure out why it would even matter which deck I used. But when I saw the two of swords and the image portrayed on that particular card, it struck me that this deck had the potential to provide more information or clues in the way of visuals and symbolism than the other one did. Maybe that’s why I kept seeing it in my mind prior to the reading. In the future, I will be more mindful of these things since it does somehow seem to matter.

So it probably wouldn’t hurt for someone close to this case – with more information than I have -to take a look at the cards and see if anything stands out that I missed. I do feel there are clues there that I am missing or that someone with more knowledge about what happened (and the general area) else might pick up on.

The Sun’s presence at the end of this reading does communicate a conclusion where the truth will become known – or enough of the truth to finally get a better idea of what happened here. I wish that I could say the cards hint at Brandon having survived whatever happened, but I honestly don’t feel that is a likely scenario here.

I want to add something that the cards did not communicate directly, but that came to me many times throughout this reading. Brandon’s mom is coming across to me as someone with strong intuitions. If Brandon were to try to communicate with someone about what happened to him – beyond the grave even – I feel that he would go to her because she is being shown to me (I don’t know how else to even explain this) as someone receptive to those channels. I’m not saying she is psychic (she might be though!); I am just explaining that I see a connection between her and Brandon that was – and is – solid and spiritual in nature. She knows, without actually knowing, things that most people don’t about what happened. No, the family is not involved, and they did not do anything to cause Brandon harm. Everything they have said about trying to help him comes across as true when compared against this reading. They are devastated by what happened and want answers. I hope for their sake that those answers come but it could take a long time. The reading gave no timeframe on this.

I have no way to know what happened for certain. Please do not take any of the information described in the readings as fact until or unless details are proven. I would love to see a positive outcome here.

Kendrick Johnson

Death: 01/10/2013

Question 1: Who or what caused the death of Kendrick Johnson?

Row One
6 of Wands (reversed) – 5 of Wands (reversed) – The World (reversed)

Row Two
2 of Cups – 4 of Wands (reversed) – 6 of Cups

Row Three
The Tower – The Hanged Man (reversed) – The Moon

Tarot reading for Kendrick Johnson.
Kendrick Johnson – Darkness of Light tarot

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. When/if I say that something happened, in any part of a reading description, I mean that is what I am interpreting from the cards, their positions, and other related factors.

Kendrick Johnson was 17 years old when he was found deceased inside of a rolled-up gym mat at his school in Valdosta, Georgia. He was on the basketball team at Lowndes High School. Investigators reportedly concluded that his death was an accident and that he had gotten stuck inside of the mat while trying to retrieve a shoe that was beneath it. The reason given was that the mat was included among others and would have been heavy or difficult to move. The mats were located in one of the school’s gymnasiums and it has been said that students sometimes sat on top of them while hanging out there.

Kendrick’s body was found the day after he is said to have died, though his exact time of death is not known for sure due in part to the way the investigation (or lack of it?) was handled. His cause of death was initially given as positional asphyxia because he was facing head down inside of the mat when he was found. The mat had been rolled up and placed upright against one of the walls in a corner area. A second and third autopsy determined his death was caused by blunt force trauma.

Surveillance inside the school showed Kendrick entering the gym, but do not show him exiting. A problem with the footage is that it did not appear to clearly record the section of the gym with the mats. Other people appeared to be in the gym at the time he entered, including some that were playing basketball. Kendrick’s family has long held the position that their son was murdered.

The Reading:

I want to begin by saying this is one of the clearest readings I have done on any of the cases I have read for thus far. The meaning of the cards jumped out at me and presented itself strongly.

The Six of Wands reversed puts Kendrick in a position where his skills and talents were not receiving the recognition they likely deserved. It was not that no one recognized they existed; they did. When this card is upright, it depicts someone receiving praise and recognition for their accomplishments. In the reversed position – in the context of this reading – it shows someone who should have been getting it but wasn’t.

The Five of Wands shows Kendrick as wanting to avoid the conflict that was surrounding his performance as a player, as well as other aspects of his life (which I will get into shortly). He wasn’t doing anything to try to stoke the fire so to speak. In his heart and mind, he preferred peace and harmony.

The World reversed is a card that shows emptiness and a lack of closure. It also emphasizes the first card that touched on Kendrick’s lack of praise or recognition. Whether he shared these thoughts or not, he was bothered by all of this, and it left him feeling as though something was missing in his life. He wanted to fix the situation but I’m getting the impression he was at a loss as to how. Realistically, these forces were beyond his immediate control – meaning he was not the cause of the problem and he was not in a position to fix it. The problem was with others around him.

The second row begins with the Two of Cups. I can already see something that was contributing to whatever conflict Kendrick was experiencing, and to the way events culminated. There was a person he felt connected to in a way that he hadn’t really experienced before. The feelings were mutual and the two people had a deep sense of respect for one another. There was genuine love and caring in this relationship. Typically this is a card depicting a close partnership or a romantic type of connection.

It seems there was an obstacle blocking the above relationship though. I hesitate to call it a relationship around the time of Kendrick’s death because it feels like a situation where the two still cared for one another, but something or someone was standing between them. I don’t know if there was a family member who disproved or a jealous ex on either end, but there was something that stood in the way of this relationship. It caused instability and left Kendrick feeling like he wasn’t – or couldn’t – get the support he needed from it. The cards read like it was an ex or significant other of one of these two people (Kendrick or the other person depicted here).

Kendrick was in a mindset where he thought about this relationship often. Not in an obsessive or unreasonable way mind you. He just found it comforting to think about it and he had hopes that it might somehow all work out. He also generally seemed to be going through a time of nostalgia, where he was remembering happy memories and enjoying the support of his family. The card is communicating that he felt comfortable in his home environment, or with his family. He liked things that were familiar to him and the people he cared about were extremely important to him. He had a maturity beyond his years in this way. He was loved by his family, and I have no doubt he knew this.

The third row begins with the Tower. Kendrick experienced a sudden and shocking event. Intuitively, I am seeing this as the moment he was attacked. I feel confident saying he was attacked because none of his reading suggests an accident and the cards have already shown me the motives. This was an ambush. For some reason, this reading is really clear and there is this sense that the truth wants and needs to be known. It’s hard to explain but it’s palpable for lack of a better word. The messages communicated are intense and vivid to me.

As soon as I put this next card down, it occurred to me that it was ironic to the point of almost seeming incredible. The card is the Hanged Man reversed. There are times when a card means exactly what it says, and this is one of them. The meaning behind the card varies considerably, depending on what else is happening in a reading. Here it shows me someone who felt like he was putting a lot of effort and energy into aspects of his life, only to find himself in the position of being attacked. I am not even sure he knew, at the moment this all happened, why the person or people came after him. It doesn’t feel like he had enough time to really process it then. It’s placement next to the Tower tells me that the event that occurred was not an accident.

The reading concluded with the Moon in its upright position. This situation is surrounded by lies and secrets. There are people that know what happened, but they are not sharing this information in a way that it is being heard. Granted, I think some people may have tried to share pieces of information, but they likely found it hard to find someone in a position of authority who would take them seriously. If they were taken seriously, the person that heard them out probably ran up against obstacles that prevented them from doing anything about it as well. This is not going to be a case that will be easy to untangle. It is complex and the secrets now run deep with this one – since there were likely people brought into all of this after the fact, who either tried to help someone (or more than one person) avoid having to take responsibility. This is not to say that the truth can’t and won’t be revealed. But it won’t happen easily or without persistent and relentless effort.

As I said before, this reading came across clearly to me. It was communicated so well that it felt like someone or something – or the universe for that matter – wants the truth known. All of these cases are especially sad, but this one hit me hard because the emotions and events were portrayed in ways that were unmistakable.

As a reminder, I have no way to know what happened for certain. Please do not take any of the information described in the readings as fact until or unless details are proven.

Mekayla Bali – Thelma tarot

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. When/if I say that something happened, in any part of a reading description, I mean that is what I am interpreting from the cards, their positions, and other related factors.

Mekayla Bali was 16 when she disappeared in 2016. She was last seen in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada on April 12th. On the day that Mekayla was last known to have been seen, she was caught on CCTV footage at various locations. Early in the morning, at about 6:41am, Mekayla texted a friend to ask for a ride to a local TD bank. The friend declined, saying that the bank wouldn’t be open until later in the day.

The beginning of Mekayla’s day seemed ordinary enough in that her grandmother dropped her off at school around 8:10am. She was seen on the school’s CCTV as placing a binder in her locker. At about 8:30am, Mekalya was shown on the footage to have left the school through a back exit/entrance. She went to a pawn shop and tried to get money for a silver ring. However, the person working at the shop said it did not have enough value. Just before 9am, Mekayla was shown withdrawing money on footage at the TB Bank. She took out $55.

Shortly thereafter, cameras caught her entering a Wendy’s restaurant. She spent about 15 minutes inside the restaurant before leaving. Almost immediately after leaving, Mekayla re-entered the restaurant and sat down. She is shown on footage as using her phone, sending texts and engaging in what appeared to be somewhat lengthy phone calls. At some point, she texted a friend saying “hey, I need help” but then texted again a little later and said “nevermind I figured it out.” Mekayla approaches an older woman who was eating at the restaurant and asked for help to rent a hotel room. The woman declined and Mekayla left.

She was later seen at an STC Bus Depot, and she asked about tickets to Regina – a place she had reportedly told people she wanted to go for vacation purposes. She did not buy a ticket, however. She had lunch at the Trail Stop Restaurant and then left. That was the last known footage of Mekayla. Police checked to see if she got on any of the buses that left but found no indication that she had. By the next morning, at 6:51am, Mekayla’s phone was turned off.

An odd aspect of the case is that calls Mekayla was shown to make on CCTV footage did not come up on her cell phone records, prompting investigators to wonder if she had a second phone or if she used an app to make the calls. She was known to use social media apps and websites, including Instagram and Kik. Though police have received hundred of different tips about possible sightings, none seem to have been confirmed as being Mekayla. Police were unable to confirm that every sighting was not Mekayla and so it is unknown if any true sightings have occurred or not.

The Reading:

The reading begins with the Seven of Wands reversed. The opening card in my readings represents the person, or their state of mind, that I am doing the reading on. In this case, the card reflects what Mekayla was feeling and experiencing at the time of her disappearance. It shows her as going through a time where she was feeling overwhelmed by a lot of different things in her life. She worried a lot about what other people thought of her and felt that people were judging her, as well as her decisions. The card also tells me that Mekayla did not like conflict, and she would avoid it whenever possible. It looks as though she was feeling somewhat defeated.

The Death card came up in the reversed position. In this case, it does not seem to represent actual death. Typically the Death card does not refer to a person’s death, but in some instances – when combined with cards pointing in that direction – it does. Instead, its positioning next to Mekayla’s starting out card tells me that many things were holding Mekayla back as far as getting beyond a rut or situation she was in. There was a lot she wanted to do and try, but she was afraid of change and there was a tendency to keep making some of the same mistakes repeatedly.

The Emperor reversed represents a person that was in Mekayla’s life, or came into her life, who was abusing his authority with the intention of taking advantage of her. It is unclear as to whether she knew this person in her day-to-day life before the day she vanished, or if it was someone she met online and possible had not met in person yet. Either way, there was a man involved in all of this. He may have presented himself as something completely different than he was, but in truth he was domineering, rigid in his ways and beliefs, and controlling. His interest in Mekayla was not innocent. He was not trying to help her, though he might have presented himself that way to her.

The Three of Pentacles reversed is a card of conflict and competition. It suggests that there was some arguing going on between Mekayla and at least one other person. Something to note about this card is that it often refers to a project or a situation where there is a shared goal – or at least the pretense of one. A possibility is that she had a plan to meet someone, or go somewhere with them, and there were issues coming up that seemed as though they were making it difficult.

At some point, Mekayla likely knew that things were not quite right with the person mentioned previously. I get the sense that she had been tricked before or that she had conversed with people who made claims about who they were, but those turned out not to be true – typical catfish types of scenarios. Judgement reversed shows Mekayla as failing to learn from past mistakes and denying the truth of her immediate situation – regardless of her gut feelings on the matter or evidence suggesting something was wrong. Self-esteem issues were absolutely at play here and she is being shown as someone who tended to blame herself and take her anger out on herself.

The Queen of Pentacles reversed is coming up in her reading and this represents a person or energy that is self-absorbed. I do not get the impression this card applies to Mekayla at all. It has a feel to it that is extremely different. Additionally, if it represents a person, it was someone who felt jealous or envious of Mekayla for some reason. It may tie directly to the Three of Pentacles reversed and explain the competition aspect of that card within the context of this reading. It presents as a kind of competition between two people.

With court cards, I often pull an additional card to get a better sense of what is going on with the person or energy the court card is communicating. In this case, I pulled the Knight of Wands – another court card. The Knight of Wands has a youthful energy to it that is more on par with someone in Mekayla’s general age range. As I have said before, nothing is concrete about the court cards in terms of gender or age. The focus is more on the attributes, qualities, and energy they convey. The Knight of Wands is always looking for a challenge. It is a person who likes excitement and sometimes bites off more than they can chew in this regard. They can be rebellious and quick to anger.

I am wondering if the Knight card represents the child of the person depicted in the Queen’s position. Both are coming across to me as being individual people. Unless there was only one, pretending to be the other. Like an older person acting as a younger one.

The Six of Wands reversed, on the final row, suggests to me that Mekayla was in a state of mind where she felt neglected and unloved. Remember, people have these feelings at times when they are not reflective of a person’s true situation. I think Mekayla was often hard on herself, so these types of emotions were probably not foreign to her. This card shows her as looking for outside support (outside of her immediate family) and so I would expect her to have been actively reaching out to people to get it. She reportedly asked an older woman for help getting a hotel room and that feels consistent with what this card is conveying. I think she asked for help from many sources and not just one.

The Seven of Pentacles is a card that usually comes up when a person has reached the point where their time and effort has finally paid off – or at least feels as if it has. Mekayla may have felt she secured the help she was requesting. It comes across as an offer of money or something material in nature. It could have been an offer of money in exchange for some kind of work, or something offered without the appearance of any strings attached. But the Queen of Swords reversed tells me that whatever was offered to Meykayla was done as a means of manipulating her. It put Mekayla in a dangerous and bad position – probably unbeknownst to her at first. A person matching the description of the Queen of Swords reversed is someone who behaves in a way that is toxic, manipulative, and cruel. Whatever such a person does or is doing, it is for themselves.

I pulled the Eight of Pentacles reversed in relation to the Queen card. A confusing aspect of this card is that it represents a dead-end type of job or something that does not require much skill. In some cases, it can refer to work that gives a person a bad reputation – either because they aren’t really putting in the effort and time they should or because the job itself is not on the up and up. Did someone offer Mekayla a way to make money that might have seemed appealing at first, but turned out to be a different situation altogether? I’m not sure.

The reading did not provide a definitive answer as to whether Mekayla is alive or not. If she is alive, she is not in a situation where she has much (if any) control over her life. The possibilities that come to mind regarding the last card in her reading – the Eight of Pentacles reversed – make me think of prostitution, drugs, and/or trafficking. However, I want to put it out there that I am not certain about this based on this one reading alone.

I’m definitely getting a catfish vibe from all of this as in she was tricked somehow, and it probably is not the first time the person or people have done it.

I would recommend watching for sightings of Mekayla or looking for attempts on her part to make contact with someone she knows. Again, I’m not saying she is alive. I genuinely cannot get a feel for that here. But intuitively I feel that I should caution against discounting sightings or occurrences where it seems like she is trying to send a message or communicate with someone.

As I always try to explain, I have no way to know what happened for certain. Please do not take any of the information described in the readings as fact until or unless details are proven. I would love to see an outcome where Mekayla is found and is able to return to her loved ones. The situations that end positively remind me not to give up hope.

Bryce Laspisa – Tarot of the Haunted House

The Reading:

I have no way to know what happened to Bryce for certain. Please do not take any of the information described in the readings as fact until or unless details are proven. I would love to see a positive outcome here but these are just readings and interpretations – both of which can be incorrect.

The purpose of the second reading was to address what happened around the time that Bryce’s vehicle crashed and afterwards. I expected the cards to continue to read in a concerning way, but after I laid them out, I was really surprised by what I saw.

The first card is the Seven of Swords reversed. This is a card of revelation. It comes up when the things that someone has been hiding come to light – either because the person confesses to them, or they are uncovered in some other way. This could indicate Bryce may have told someone about whatever was going on with him.

The next card is Judgement. The reading shows Bryce as having a moment of reckoning. It is unclear if the accident prompted this to happen, but something prompted him to critically reflect on his choices and actions in a way that was more constructive than it had been previously. The implication is that he experienced an awakening of sorts.

The Page of Wands came up again in this reading, but this time it was in the upright position. This card symbolizes a bad situation transitioning into a better one. Granted, this seems odd considering everything that has happened to him thus far. But that’s what it is showing me. Also, the Page of Wands in this position signifies that new ideas were coming to him, and he felt a sense of excitement as though he had spent time brainstorming and he came up with some options that seemed workable in ways they hadn’t before. Being a court card, there is the distinct possibility this card represents someone Bryce met or turned to that offered him help.

The card I pulled in connection with the Page of Wands was the Devil reversed. In its reversed position, the Devil signifies a situation where someone releases chains that have been binding them. This can come up if someone has finally reached a turning point in recovering from an addition or in a situation where someone becomes free of someone toxic. There are many possibilities with this card. The most important element is that after his accident, for whatever reason, he felt like he was reclaiming his life and his independence from something. Unfortunately, it is difficult to tell how far beyond the crash this card is taking us. The Wands and the Swords are fast-moving types of energy and that suggests these events unfolded relatively quickly. I keep thinking back to those recurring thoughts I had during the first reading about him looking for a sign. I can’t shake the thought that surviving the car accident might have been the sign he felt he needed.

The Two of Wands came up a second time in this reading as well. Like the Page of Wands, the Two of Wands came up in an upright position. It reflects an undoing of the past struggles he was facing. It shows someone who was making solid decisions and taking real steps down a new path. It also depicts someone willing to step into the unknown and take some risks. Previously, Bryce was shown as someone suffering the consequences of failure to plan. Now the cards show him as doing the opposite.

The Queen of Cups then came up in a reversed position. Its position shows an obstacle between Bryce’s new sense of direction and his ability to achieve his goals. It appears to represent a feminine energy or person, but that is not absolutely certain. It depicts someone who is insecure and overly dependent. It also denotes a sense of sacrifice that is presented as something selfless when really there are some ulterior motives – usually relating to emotional dependence.

The card pulled in reference to the Queen of Cups reversed was the Four of Cups. This supports my belief that the Queen of Cups reversed represented a real figure – the mentality of one at least – in Bryce’s life because it explains why that person posed such a significant obstacle. The Four of Cups is a card where someone feels disconnected and unwilling to move beyond the position they are in, despite obviously unhappy. The person isn’t stuck because they don’t have choices; they are essentially choosing to remain where and as they are at the time. Remember, this card is linked to the Queen of Cups reversed so it is whatever or whoever the obstacle was that Bryce perceived as keeping him from moving forward. The court card shows someone who is not sympathetic or empathetic to another person’s needs. Their own emotion is clouding their ability to see the degree of suffering or difficulty a person close to them is experiencing. This can become truly problematic if they are ignoring dire needs that demand immediate attention.

The outcome or goal standing beyond the Queen of Cups reversed is the World card. The reading is suggesting to me that Bryce envisioned a way to become fulfilled, and to feel a sense of harmony and belonging, but for whatever reason there was someone in his life preventing him from achieving that. I don’t even know if the Queen was acting deliberately or if it was more a matter where their needs were forefront in their mind, and this caused them to completely miss all the signs showing what Bryce needed from them. Bryce’s freedom, at that point in time, was only possible by severing that tie.

The World is also a card demonstrating lessons embraced and learned. It is the last of the major arcana cards and it looks back over all a person has been through and shows them coming out the other side. The card is a reminder that everything is always moving and changing, whether we take action in our lives or not. I find it often means that a person has progressed to the point that deep and genuine inner happiness is either happening or is well within their grasp.

The Three of Swords reversed is the first card on the final row. This is a card of healing and recovery. It represents someone who has entered into a phase where they forgive themselves and others for their shortcomings or for pain that has been caused. The card has a downside in this positioning because it still signifies hurt and regret, but it is positive in that it demonstrates a willingness to begin the process of moving beyond what has happened and working toward letting go of suffering.

The Three of Pentacles reversed, positioned on the last row, suggests that whatever Bryce did after the accident was done because he did not feel as though some of the people – or at least one with a particularly strong influence on him, were really working with him to sort out his problems. And he didn’t feel like he could share his truth with them – whatever that happened to be. I really don’t know what this card is referring to specifically. However, it is coming up in a placement that is usually meant to give final insight into why and how events unfolded the way they did.

The Knight of Swords is the third card in the last row. It represents a person or energy that is assertive, focused, and is thinking strategically about what they are doing. The Knight is a younger energy than a card like a Queen or a King. It feels like someone helped Bryce. The Five of Wands was pulled in relation to the Knight card and showing that decisions made were done to address problems Bryce was having – arguments and conflicts with one or more key people in his life. It really does feel as those he either contacted someone he knew or met someone that provides him with help.

Now, I went into this reading thinking Bryce was probably deceased. While I am by no means an expert on the circumstances leading up to his disappearance, the first reading showed a negative progression toward an unfortunate outcome. However, the second reading – which is focused on what was going on with Bryce during and after the crash – showed the exact opposite progression. There could be several possible explanations for this, including a scenario in which he is still alive. I’m not saying he’s alive. I have no way to know that even if the cards read in a way that suggests it. They can be wrong my interpretation can be wrong.

One way or the other, I hope for answers for those who love him. Solid answers backed with proof.

Bryce Laspisa – Tarot of the Haunted House

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. When/if I say that something happened, in any part of a reading description, I mean that is what I am interpreting from the cards, their positions, and other related factors.

I am providing a longer than usual summary for this case because I want to do two readings on this. First, I want to do a reading asking what was happening in Bryce’s life that contributed to his later disappearance. Then I want to do a reading on the disappearance, with an emphasis on what happened closer to the time he crashed and subsequently vanished.

Bryce Laspisa was 19 years old and attending college at Sierra College in Rocklin, California in 2013. He was known for having a happy and charismatic personality. However, on August 28th, one of Bryce’s roommates contacted his parents to tell them that he was acting strangely. Bryce had just broken up with his girlfriend, Kim, via text and it was reportedly unexpected on her part. Bryce confided that something was bothering him, but he did not seem to have provided any detailed information about what it was.

A factor that many close to Bryce attributed to his change in behavior was a medication he was taking to stay up all night playing videogames with a friend. The medication was Vyvanse, used to tread ADHD, and it was not prescribed to him.

Bryce drove his vehicle about 90 miles to Kim’s house and called his mom. At some point, Kim took the phone and spoke with Bryce’s mom. She advised that he was not acting like himself, and she was worried. She had taken his keys away to prevent him from driving. Bryce’s mom asked to speak to her son again and he told her that he was okay and that he wanted his keys back. His mom offered to come out to visit her son, but he declined the offer and insisted he was fine. He told her he would call her in the morning and Kim gave his keys back to him upon his mom’s request.

Bryce called his mom, but instead of heading back to his apartment like he told her he would, cell phone records would later reveal that he was heading south – beyond the college and toward mountains. He apparently contacted roadside assistance asking for help after he ran out of gas. His parents learned about this because they had a message from their insurance company and they also found a charge on their credit card that occurred in Buttonwillow, California. The location was in the general direction of their home and so they assumed he was on his way. Bryce’s mom got in contact with the person who assisted her son and he offered to go and check on him for her. He went back to check on Bryce and then contacted his mom to tell her he was okay. He put Bryce on the phone with him mom and he reiterated that he was fine. Bryce said he was on his way home. This took place in the morning and his parents expected that he would reach their home by 3pm.

By 3:30pm, Bryce had not arrived. His parents tried to contact him for several hours with no luck. They then filed a missing person’s report with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. This occurred at about 6pm. The police were able to track Bryce through his cell phone and discovered he was still in Buttonwillow. He had traveled about eight miles from where he had been when he initially spoke to his parents. The officers searched Bryce’s car and found no sign of alcohol or drugs. They also gave him a field sobriety test and he passed. Bryce told the officers he was blowing off steam. The officers asked Bryce to call his mom, but he indicated he did not want that. However, the officers put him on the phone with his mom. Bryce had reportedly agreed to drive to his parents.

Hours later, Bryce still had not arrived at his parent’s home. His mom contacted the man who checked on him initially, from the repair shop, and he reported that Bryce was still there but agreed to leave. The man followed Bryce until he turned onto the freeway. He spoke with his parents by phone periodically but would not give landmarks when asked. At 2:09am, Bryce said he wanted to pull off to rest for the night.

At about 8am, an officer from the California Highway Patrol went to Bryce’s parent’s house to ask about a vehicle they found abandoned in the Castaic Lake area. It had crashed and was found at the bottom of a 25-foot embankment. Bryce was nowhere to be found. Some blood was found on the headrest, suggesting that Bryce was in the car when it crashed. It did not seem to be enough blood to indicate a serious injury, but no one could be sure how badly he was hurt or what happened to him after. Belongings such as his phone and laptop remained in the car. A duffel bag and Bryce’s wallet were found outside of the vehicle. There was speculation that Bryce hadn’t realized there was an embankment when he drove on the service road leading into the rest area, and thus had continued to drive with the thought that the lake was closer to him than it appeared. The people that investigated the scene believed that Bryce had attempted to commit suicide.

A large search commenced, but Bryce was never located. Tips came in about possible sightings. However, none turned out to be Bryce. At some point prior to his trip to Buttonwillow, Bryce had given away several of his belongings. The items were ones he was known to have valued, such as a pair of diamond earrings and his Xbox. He was also reportedly drinking a lot before he disappeared. That, combined with his use of Vyvanse, was believed to have played a role in his emotional and mental state at the time. Though Bryce was said to have been drinking while at college, he was not believed to have been drunk or high when the officers checked on him in Buttonwillow.

The Reading:

To begin, I have no way to know what happened for certain. Please do not take any of the information described in the readings as fact until or unless details are proven. I would love to see a positive outcome in every case I read on, but I could never say for sure what happened or will happen without solid proof. I ask that people remember this as they read my interpretations of the cards. I absolutely could be incorrect in my beliefs, opinions, and conclusions.

The King of Cups came up as my initial positioning card for Bryce. When I talk about him in the past tense, please note that the reason is because I have asked the cards to take us back in time to provide clues as to what was happening in his life. The energy he was exhibiting around the point of time that he vanished (up to and including that time) was consistent with attributes associated with this card. Bryce is being shown as someone who thrived on relationships and came across to his peers as someone who was wise and willing to listen. Bryce would have been someone people felt they could go to when they needed someone to confide in. He enjoyed being there for the people he cared about, and he demonstrated compassion. He would have been adept at applying a combination of logic and intuition to the problems of others.

The Page of Swords reversed represents an energy or a person that was directly impacting how he felt at the time. If the card represents a person, it would be someone with youthful energy. Some of the attributed associated with the reversed position include a lack of empathy, uncertainty about the future, a tendency to experience misunderstandings that caused conflict, an argumentative or defensive mentality, and an overall lack of planning. The astrological sign associated with the swords include Aquarius, Libra, and Gemini. Court cards can represent any gender and any sign when they come up as a depiction of a person, so it is important not to assign one without careful consideration about whether it applies, and whether it is useful.

I believe this card had a different meaning here though. The Page of Swords reversed could also indicate that Bryce received bad news. It would have happened quickly, in the form of a call, email, text, in person, or other fast-traveling medium. I am favoring this meaning because of what I have already determined after considering all the cards and their combined meaning.

I pulled the Eight of Pentacles in relation to the Page card and to me, it reinforces the notion that he received bad news. The news was likely pertaining to his area of expertise or study. It is a card that often depicts craftmanship and a need for dedication and mastery. Or it threatened his goals in relation to all this. I can only speculate about the source and content of the news, but there is this sense of fear on his part that it could cause harm to his life and his plans. It seems as though he felt the situation was worse than it really was also.

The Five of Pentacles shows me that the above-referenced situation left him feeling isolated, abandoned, and without support. A unique aspect of this card lol is that it suggests a person experiencing a significant struggle who could get the help or support they need if only they asked for it. However, something about the situation was likely causing him shame and he did not want to share it.

The Two of Wands reversed continues to point to a situation where Bryce was not planning well for the future. The reversed positioning warns against a situation where one cannot achieve their goals because they rushed through the planning process or did not take time to think each point through carefully. It also comes up when this lack of planning really begins to become evident in other areas of a person’s life because it causes a sense of disarray.

The Two of Cups is a card that denotes a partnership or close bonds that people share. This is often a positive card that shows the development of a strong and symbiotic relationship. Because it came after the Two of Wands reversed, it appears that the lack of planning – or failure to account for smaller details – was beginning to take its toll on other aspects of his life. Essentially, the problems were having a negative impact on his close relationships. Bryce understood that whatever was going on with him had the ability to cause other people grief or harm. He didn’t want that. He was trying to think of a way to lessen that blow or turn it all into a situation that everyone could live with.

An aspect of Bryce’s situation that was particularly troublesome at this time was that he appeared to have a fear of taking action that would change his circumstances. He was staying in his situation, despite knowing that it was time to move on from it and let some of the things go that were now only causing him problems. It was almost as though he was trying to accept everything as it was, without really feeling motivated to take steps in any other direction that might get him beyond it. Mostly, this card indicates that he was in a state of confusion because he couldn’t decide upon a path to take. He may not have even fully realized how many different paths were available to him. He could have felt aimless and afraid. Or he might have known the path he wanted to take but felt that pursuing it would cause major issues.

The Page of Wands reversed only served to emphasize the points made by other cards. Bryce was in a mindset where he couldn’t decide what to do. Even if he had a lot of different ideas, he was probably frustrated because this card shows up as someone who can’t make up their mind and never moves beyond the mere spark of an idea. The card sometimes points to money problems or a lack of financial security and so his worries about the future probably seemed like a heavy burden since it threatened his ability to someday gain full financial independence. Another consideration pertains to his use of Vyvanse. Where was he getting the drug and how was he paying for it? There was just this whole dimension of Bryce’s life that seems to exist beyond the veil so to speak.

The card I pulled in connection to the Page of Wands reversed was the Four of Pentacles. The card suggests that Bryce’s inability or unwillingness to make changes was connected to what he felt he had or needed in terms of the material world. I don’t know how much his parents helped him financially but when I apply intuition to this reading, I get the impression that he worried his parents would cut him off if they knew what he knew. This comes across as feeling almost unavoidable to him and he was afraid of the consequences of whatever it was he keeping under wraps.

The Ten of Swords card shows Bryce had become completely run down. The card shows him as experiencing exhaustion and feeling like an utter failure. He may have felt he had reached a dead end. Again, the swords suit represents situations where the reality is not always aligned with a person’s thoughts. Swords can represent people that perceive their situation as much worse than it is, and who simply cannot think beyond the distress they are feeling even though there are options and opportunities for help available. An unfortunate aspect of this card is that when applied to Bryce, it tells me that whatever he envisioned happening in his mind, the reality would not have been as bad. Yes, there likely would have been consequences; however, this was a storm that was always meant to pass – whether he realized that or not.

The final card, which in my readings always links back to the first, is the Nine of Pentacles reversed. I can now say with confidence that Bryce was concerned about the financial aspect of his problem or situation. This, and other cards pulled, are strongly communicating to me that he was being somewhat reckless with his finances or he was worried how revealing his problems would impact his finances. Without proper background information, I am not sure what this means. Was he spending more money than his parents typically allowed? Had he accumulated debt of some kind? Did he think his secret was so terrible that they would basically disown him? I don’t know and nothing I am getting from the reading suggests the problem he was keeping to himself was anywhere near as bad as he felt it was. But I do know that this is presenting as the major motive behind his actions – a fear of losing what he had and concerns about the consequences associated with whatever else was going on.

So here’s what this leaves me with regarding part one of two readings. Bryce spent all that time in Buttonwillow because he knew he needed to tell his parents something and he could not gather the courage to do it. He wanted to come up with some other option, but the situation was one that I think was always going to get back to his parents no matter what. Their influence in his life comes across as strong in that he was quite dependent on them. That is an age range when people are typically still dependent on parents in various ways so that is not unusual to me. But for some reason, Bryce felt his situation was serious enough that it threatened the foundation of his life and the support he believed he needed before he could transition to the point of adulthood where he would be fully responsible for himself.

On an intuitive level, I keep getting this thought about how there is at least one person that has some of the information I am lacking here. He may not have fully confided in anyone around him, but he shared something that would bring all of this into clearer focus. Maybe they didn’t, and still don’t, recognize the significance of it. Or maybe they do and they are keeping this to themselves out of respect for Bryce. Again, I just don’t know.

Was Bryce contemplating suicide? This reading does not discount that possibility. He had some intense cards come up in his reading. I do think if he was, he was trying to talk himself out of it. The cards don’t read as though he was merely hanging around Buttonwillow until he had the courage to take his own life. They read more like he was trying to get the courage to face his problems and tell his parents what was happening, but that courage was just not coming for him as he had hoped.

Often when I do readings, I get these thoughts that are not directly associated with the cards and almost seem to come from the person I am asking about. I kept getting this thought about how he was looking for signs. Not literal signs. He was waiting a kind of sign – or multiple signs – that would clear a path forward or bring him some comfort. His actions, and inaction, tell me he did not feel those signs presented themselves. Also, he was avoiding going home because he knew he could not keep the information to himself once he was face to face with his parents. Something I was to point out and stress here is that Bryce worried (worries?) excessively about how other people around him felt (feel?). He wanted people to feel good and he didn’t want to be responsible for anyone’s unhappiness – especially when it came to anything related to him. His actions weren’t out of selfishness. Quite the opposite.

I did a second reading that goes over the timeframe immediately after the crash that you can access by clicking here.

Elaine Park

Birthday: 09/24/1996
Disappearance: 01/28/2017

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. When/if I say that something happened, in any part of a reading description, I mean that is what I am interpreting from the cards, their positions, and other related factors.

Elaine Park disappeared in January of 2017 in Calabasas, California. On January 27th, Elaine had spent time with her boyfriend (or then ex-boyfriend, Divine Compere) and the two had gone to see a movie. Elaine returned to Divine’s home and the two reportedly went to sleep. Divine would later tell police that she woke up early in the morning, while experiencing a panic attack, and then left his house – despite him stating that he tried to get her to stay. Surveillance at Divine’s home is consistent with his account of what happened.

By September 30th, Elaine’s mother reported her missing after concerns about not hearing from her daughter for several days. Five days after she was last known to have been seen, on February 2nd, her grey Honda Civic was found on the side of Pacific Coast Highway. The key was still in the ignition, but the battery had gone dead. Elaine’s phone, computer, driver’s license, wallet, and other belongings were found in the car. Though the police employed the use of divers and dogs, no trace of Elaine was found. The police indicated that they cleared Divine as a suspect and described him as being cooperative.

Elaine’s family has stated that they do not believe she would have disappeared willingly and on her own. To date, her case remains unsolved and her whereabouts are unknown.

Reading for Elaine Park – Dark Angels tarot

The Reading:

The Six of Swords is the card describing Elaine’s situation and mentality at the time of her disappearance. It indicates she was going through a time of transition. She was going through the mental and emotional process of putting distance between herself and aspects of her life that were causing her distress. The cards suggest she was at a stage where she was beginning to learn from, or accept, lessons from her past. The card depicts a strong sense of loss and so whatever she was going through emotionally was very difficult for her.

The Nine of Swords represents her mindset when she disappeared. The card is associated with feelings of fear, anxiety, and despair. It shows her as reaching a breaking point. The card can be associated with nightmares and heightened levels of despondency and anxiety. Another important aspect of this card is the sense of isolation the person the card refers to was experiencing. These feelings would have made it challenging for her to reach out to someone and talk it all through. Sometimes the Nine of Swords is a card representing trauma – the type that people are not as inclined to talk to other people about because they feel shame. People who get this card in a reading would be advised to seek someone out they trusted and share the burden of their feelings.

The High Priestess is a card that – in a reading where there are a lot of Swords and the sense that a person is going through a lot on an emotional level – warns people to listen to their intuition and go with their gut. The reason this card is important in a reading like this is because it suggests that Elaine encountered a situation or problem and knew intuitively what she should do. However, the mind and our thoughts can overwhelm us at times or cause us to question those instincts we have about people or situations. Either way, in this situation Elaine had a feeling something was going to happen and that something was wrong. This would not have been new for her either. People who knew her would probably describe her as having a strong intuitive side and an uncanny ability to predict situations or sense when something is off.

In these types of readings, the Chariot reversed is not a good sign. I usually pull this card when a person encounters some kind of trouble while using some mode of transportation. Something that is known about Elaine’s case is that her vehicle was found abandoned, with the key in the ignition and her belonging still inside. The Chariot reversed is consistent with that knowledge, but it tells us that the vehicle was a kind of catalyst in whatever happened to her that night – meaning she was probably in it when her situation took a turn for the worst. Also, there is likely evidence associated with it.

The Four of Wands is an interesting card to appear in this specific reading. The card is a positive one in that it usually refers to happy times – celebrations, time spent with loved ones, a party, and other things of that nature. Its appearance may seem random, but I’ve learned that these kinds of cards come up for a reason. My thought on this is that Elaine calmed herself down by focusing on happier times, and good experiences she had gone through in her life. I got this impression during the reading that she was extremely visual, and I could see her thinking about positive memories because it was a coping strategy that helped her to bring down her level of anxiety. She may have had an event to look forward to attending in the future so that is another possibility for the apparent change in her mindset.

The Four of Swords is the last card on the second row and is one that represents a time of peace, recuperation, and rest. Typically, this is a card that comes up when someone has been through a major struggle and the fight is over or nearing a point of ceasing. In this case, I think this signifies the emotional difficulty she was experiencing. I’m seeing this as a situation where she was feeling extremely distressed, and she took time for herself – perhaps driving around or going somewhere to park her car and think for a while – and she reached a turning point. While I have limited knowledge about this case, I recall reading that her boyfriend at the time indicated she had a panic attack prior to leaving his house. This is consistent with what the cards are showing. The Nine of Swords is a card where people feel isolated so Elaine might have been someone who tried to work out any anxiety on her own when possible.

Then something bad happened. The Eight of Swords shows a person in a scenario where they feel helpless, trapped, and powerless. Sometimes this card refers to the power of the mind to create a sense of imprisonment, but it can also come up in situations where a person is actually or literally trapped or imprisoned. The turn of events, in terms of the chronology of these cards, was swift. The swords suit is one that denotes fast moving energy and events. The reading is dominated by swords cards, amidst several major arcana. Only one other suit is represented – the wands – which is also associated with fast moving energy.

So the story that has been told about her having a panic attack and leaving her boyfriend’s (or ex boyfriend’s) house is consistent with what the cards are showing me right now. It looks as though something happened after she left his house. Something to consider is that, according to the cards, it does not appear she was in the best mindset. She was trying to cope with the intense stress she was experiencing, but she was trying to tackle it alone. Often, the first thing some people assume is that this is evidence of a possible suicide. However, the cards do not point in this direction. They show a progression of emotions and suggest that it was her emotional state that made her particularly vulnerable at the time this all happened.

The second card, in the third row, is Temperance Reversed. This is a major arcana card that primarily communicates a sense of imbalance, recklessness, and excess. And conflict. Sometimes Temperance reversed comes up as a warning card in that it communicates the need to find balance and to slow down. It can also indicate that someone should choose their next steps – or path – carefully as one path will lead to something negative and/or destructive.

The last card pulled was the Strength card. The way I structure my readings, the last card is usually linked to the first card. In this reading, I take that to mean that Elaine was a resilient person. She experienced emotional difficulties at times, and was suffering from strong bouts of anxiety when this happened, but the cards are telling me that she did not cause her own disappearance. Some people believe she may have committed suicide, but the cards are not showing me that. The cards are showing me someone who was in a frame of mind that could have placed her in the path of danger. Often when people are stressed or anxious, they become unusually vulnerable to predators or situations that end badly because there are people who pick up on these things and seize them as opportunities.

I can see that I will need to do another reading on this because while it answers some of the questions I had about this situation (i.e. did Elaine take her own life? Did her boyfriend know more about her disappearance than he claimed?), it left me with new ones. I want to point out that nothing in the cards suggest her family was involved in her disappearance. It doesn’t indicate specifically in this reading either way. She did appear to have people in her life that knew she was struggling and would have wanted to help her had she asked for support. However, the cards show Elaine as a person with a strong streak of intellectual and emotional independence. She wanted to be strong and overcome her difficulties on her own. The Strength card shows that she had a strong sense of inner power and an underlying belief that she would get through whatever it was she was going through.

Finally, I got the impression from what I did read about her disappearance that there is a lot of suspicion concerning her boyfriend (some reports stated it was her then ex-boyfriend and so I’m not sure which relationship status was truly accurate here). While I cannot say for certain he was not involved, this reading does not point to him. If anything, if confirms the small pieces of information he has reportedly given, such as her waking up from what appeared to be a panic attack and leaving his home despite him trying to convince her to stay. I feel compelled to point this out because I do think, based on the cards and my own intuition while reading them, that she did meet with foul play. Sometimes people become so focused on the people that were in a missing person’s life, that it causes them to spend less time looking at other possibilities. There is something truly dark associated with this situation, but this reading did not delve deeply into that element. My hope is a future one will.

I will do another reading on this one in the future because I want to try to uncover more information about what the reading alludes to after she left her boyfriend’s house. As I always point out, I have no way to know what happened for certain. Please do not take any of the information described in the readings as fact until or unless details are proven. I would love to see a positive outcome for Elaine and her loved ones.
