Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. Tarot reading is an art and not a science.
Brendan Santo was reportedly last seen at Michigan State University on October 29th of 2021. As of this writing, he is 18 years old.
Question: Who or what caused the disappearance of Brendan Santo?
5 of Wands – Knight of Pentacles (reversed) – Queen of Swords
Card pulled for the Knight of Pentacles (r): Judgement (reversed)
Card pulled for the Queen of Swords: 7 of Swords
The Star – 9 of Pentacles – 10 of Wands
Queen of Pentacles – 10 of Swords (reversed) – 6 of Cups
Card pulled for the Queen of Pentacles: 3 of Wands
Well, I can already see a lot going on in this reading and it’s difficult to piece together what it’s trying to show me. Please remember that these kinds of readings are only meant to provide some insight into possible people or events to investigate as aspects of them can and will – at times – be wrong. The biggest challenge, which I have mentioned before, is the interpretation of the cards and the different meanings associated with each card. There’s usually more than one.
The first card, in response to the who or what question, is the Five of Wands. This card shows up when there is conflict stemming from a few different people or sources. The best way to describe it is a situation where someone feels pulled in multiple directions. Not everyone involved has the same agenda or goals.
The Knight of Pentacles reversed is suggesting there is a younger adult male, or someone who exhibits attributes consistent with one, who might have kind of a bad or negative reputation in terms of being unstable, overly focused on financial or material matters, and irresponsible at times. Judgement reversed was pulled in connection with the person represented by the Knight reversed card and it’s showing someone who doesn’t and hasn’t learned from past mistakes, may potentially make false allegations, and/or tends blame other people for their own errors or problems. It can also be someone who spreads vicious or malicious gossip. While it is possible the Knight of Pentacles reversed could represent Brendan, if the description does not fit him then it more likely refers to someone else around his general age. It’s not reading like it’s describing Brendan.
The Queen of Swords is a second person coming up in the reading. This is likely to be an adult female who is either older in terms of age, than someone in the Knight’s position, or at least comes across that way. People represented by the Queen of Swords are logical thinkers. They don’t make their decisions based on emotion and they tend to be guarded or skeptical due to past experiences. They can sometimes come across as cold and unfeeling.
I pulled the Seven of Swords for the Queen card and it’s implying there might have been some kind of theft or situation that was underhanded that involved this woman. The card may suggest that there was some strategy and manipulation associated with whatever this person did.
The Star usually indicates that someone has achieved what they set out to do, or their wishes were fulfilled. I don’t know how to apply that in terms of who is represents specifically – since it appears we might have two people with some kind of knowledge or influence on the situation.
The Nine of Pentacles is also somewhat tricky to apply – with no background information at all – but its’s a card that usually represents someone who has some degree of financial freedom – either because they are making money at a job, or their family has money. The question pertains to who or what caused Brendan’s disappearance and so the assumption is that this card applies to at least one person presented. Sometimes financial status is a way for the cards to help identify a major player in these types of situations. It might also be pointing to resources that one might have at their disposal.
The Ten of Wands is a card where a person feels overloaded and stressed. It’s a situation where someone feels they have too much responsibility or burdens.
The Queen of Pentacles is either a new person, or it’s the same person depicted in the Queen of Swords position that is now behaving differently or involved in a subsequent action. The cards don’t really have a way to indicate they are talking about the same person in these kinds of readings. Either way, the Queen of Pentacles is a similar scenario in which it often represents an adult female (in these types of readings, at least; not necessarily in typical tarot readings as they can represent energies or influences too) or someone behaving in a way consistent with one. The Three of Wands is often a travel card that shows someone traveling away, versus returning home.
The Ten of Swords reversed is basically saying this person may have avoided some kind of disaster. Maybe they almost got caught doing something they shouldn’t have, or something else happened that they felt they needed to escape from to continue to move forward. I’m not sure. But I would look for someone who might have left town – or the area – at least temporarily. Again, with this particular card, there is this sense of not learning from the past which makes me think this person has done similar things in the past. I don’t know exactly what they did here, but they don’t seem to learn their lesson.
The Six of Cups might be indicating that this person misses home and is spending a lot of time thinking about their childhood and/or the past. Sometimes it points to someone who has experienced abuse in the past or trauma – typically during childhood.
Unless Brendan disappeared on his own – accidentally or on purpose – the above cards pertain to anyone involved in the situation or anyone that may have had a strong influence.
Question: What happened to cause Brendan Santo to disappear?
5 of Swords – The Fool – Ace of Wands (reversed)
The Hermit (reversed) – 10 of Pentacles (reversed) – 8 of Wands (reversed)
Queen of Pentacles (reversed) – The Chariot – Wheel of Fortune
Card pulled for the Queen of Pentacles (r): King of Wands (reversed)
Card pulled for the King of Wands (r): Page of Swords
Card pulled for the Page of Swords: 6 of Pentacles (reversed)
The Five of Swords is showing there was some kind of conflict. It’s similar to the Five of Wands, except that it can be more aggressive in terms of the type of conflict and the degree to which someone can defend themselves. The type of conflict can be anything from something verbally disruptive to an outright attack or assault.
The Fool is a card that suggests Brendan was taking some kind of leap of faith and in the process of embarking on something new in his life. It is a card of spontaneity, but it can also be one of foolishness.
However, the Ace of Wands reversed is like the situation came to a stop due to some kind of delay or bad news. I would expect this to come up if someone had a plan to do something and then there was an occurrence, or news, that interfered with or prevented them from carrying it out. So Brendan might have originally planned to do one thing but changed his mind (or was made to change his mind due to circumstances).
The Hermit reversed makes me wonder if he got in an argument with one or more friends because it depicts a person who feels rejected or dejected. It’s not uncommon in these situations for the person to go off on their own, or to be in a situation where they feel they need to withdraw from people around them.
The Ten of Pentacles reversed is suggesting that there might have been some kind of issue with money or something material in nature – like someone’s possessions or something perceived to have value. It could also refer to a debt that Brendan may have owed. I’m not sure here.
The Eight of Wands reversed signifies delays or obstacles. It can also represent someone who is or feels restricted or who has to cancel or change travel plans.
The Queen of Pentacles is appearing in this reading as well; however, it is in its reversed position which emphasizes some of the person’s more negative attributes and personality traits – behaving in a way that is mean, possessive, or manipulative. The King of Wands reversed came up in connection with the Queen and so I don’t know if this was a couple or just two different people involved in whatever transpired. The Page of Swords could indicate a message that was received quickly – via text, in person, a phone call, etc. possibly pertaining to something that was delayed. The Six of Pentacles reversed was pulled for all three of the court cards and it indicates that there was some kind of gift or loan that came with conditions or strings attached. It wasn’t given to be charitable. Maybe the message was in relation to such a transaction that had already occurred but had not been settled. It can sometimes also refer to a debt.
The above could be something as simple as Brendan getting alcohol from someone that does not want to admit to giving it to him because of the legal ramifications. Although, that implies that his disappearance is directly linked to that occurrence because it is coming up as though it has significance.
The Chariot could have one of two main meanings here. Either it refers to a means of travel, such as a vehicle, or it shows someone as feeling like they are moving forward and overcoming obstacles.
The Wheel of fortune is a card that indicates cycles of life and the involvement of chance in a particular situation. Years back, I used to think the upright Wheel only pertained to positive changes in luck or fate. However, once I started doing these kinds of readings, I found that it was coming up a lot and seemed to depict situations where there was a major upheaval of some kind that pertains to a person’s life.
None of this tells us exactly what happened to Brendan in terms of his fate. However, after these readings I would say that there seem to have been some important interactions that occurred between Brendan and at least one female and one male. It seems like they gave him something. He might have owed someone something. I’m not even saying they had anything directly to do with what happened to him in terms of having an intention to harm. But they are coming up in the reading which is saying these people have at least some important information here.
Question: What else should we know about Brendan Santo’s disappearance?
7 of Swords – 5 of Cups (reversed) – Queen of Wands
Card pulled for the Queen of Wands: Magician (reversed)
Judgement (reversed) – Page of Cups – Page of Pentacles (reversed)
Card pulled for the Page of Cups: Ten of Wands (reversed)
Card pulled for the Page of Pentacles (r): Knight of Cups
Card pulled for the Knight of Cups: King of Pentacles (reversed)
Card pulled for the King of Pentacles (r): The Tower
In the very first reading, the Seven of Swords came up. This is always a concerning card because it indicates that some kind of underhanded behavior occurred. It often pertains to some type of theft, but it can also reference the mere act of getting away with doing something bad. In the first reading, this came up in relation to the Queen of Swords.
The Five of Cups reversed depicts someone as letting go of past trauma or hurts. It can also be an indication of forgiveness. I have absolutely no clue what this is referring to here.
The Queen of Wands is again referring to an adult female, or someone behaving like one, and is probably someone who comes across as extroverted in terms of their personality. The Magician reversed came up in connection with the Queen and could indicate she engaged in manipulative and deceptive behaviors. A person depicted by the Magician reversed is sometimes a narcissist or a person who habitually cons others.
Judgement reversed came up in the first reading and it is back in this one as well. However, this time it is not connected to a court card and stands on its own. It still has the same meanings though. It’s a card that represents someone who hasn’t learned from past mistakes, blames others for their own faults, and things of that nature. It can also refer to an outcome that is beyond a person’s control though.
The Page of Cups is often a message pertaining to feelings, love, or emotions. On its own, its usually happy news or information that a person receives. The Ten of Wands reversed is connected to that card. We saw this in its upright position in the first reading. In its reversed position, it is basically an exaggerated version of the upright card. The reversed shows someone as feeling like they have taken on too much stress and responsibility and cannot handle it all. It can cause a person to feel broken down mentally or it can motivate them to off-load some of their responsibilities or outright abandon others to cope.
The Page of Pentacles reversed, however, likely represents some kind of bad or negative news that Brendan received regarding money or material matters. Two people are connected to this news. One is the Knight of Cups and the other is the King of Pentacles reversed. The Knight of cups is a younger and more emotional or sensitive male, while the King of Pentacles reversed comes across as someone older or more experienced. The person in the King of Pentacles reversed position is typically not good with money, behaves in cold or ruthless ways at times, and may have problems with spending too much or gambling.
In direct relation to the King of Pentacles reversed is the Tower. This is a major and sudden upheaval in Brendan’s life. The problem is that it could represent anything from an accident to a murder. It is not clear cut in terms of what kind of situation it reflects.
So if the cards are generally accurate here – and remember, they aren’t always, and no one should ever rely on tarot readings in place of facts or evidence – then I would say that there are people who had some kind of interaction or dealing with Brendan that seems to have been at the root of all this. I don’t know if these were friends of Brendan’s or people that he came across another way. It just seems like they have information that they might possibly be hiding due to something that was exchanged or owed. There seems to almost be a theft element involved to all this but I can’t piece it together.
This is a really baffling case. These cards may resonate far more with someone who knows Brendan and has more background on what is known to have happened – as well as people he may have come in contact with.
