Karena McClerkin reading 1 – Traditional Manga tarot

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. When/if I say that something happened, in any part of a reading description, I mean that is what I am interpreting from the cards, their positions, and other related factors.

Karena McClerkin vanished on October 11th of 2016 in Kokomo, Indiana. She was 18 years old at the time. She indicated to her grandmother, Gerry McClerkin, that she planned to meet up with a male and go to a party. Surveillance cameras captured Karena at or near a BP gas station. Witnesses claimed to see Karena get into a vehicle in an alley and that was the last confirmed sighting of her.

The Ten of Cups is the card showing me Karena during the time just before her disappearance. It shows me someone that had love and support in her life. It indicates to me that the people close to Karena were a priority for her. The Ten of Cups also may appear at times when someone enters into a new romantic relationship or takes the next step toward a long-term commitment in an already established one.

The Eight of Pentacles tells me there is a material or monetary component to all of this. In the reversed position, it suggests someone who is either unhappy with their job or does not have one at all. This card pertains directly to the person or people responsible for her disappearance, so it implies that there was some kind of monetary or material matter involved. It does not necessarily have to be work related, but it definitely has to do with something material in nature.

Temperance is a card that shows me she was also seeking balance in her life. The reversed position shows someone possibly going to extremes or partaking in things they shouldn’t, such as drugs, alcohol, and other vices. However, the upright position shows that she likely either experienced a challenging time just prior to her disappearance, or she was coming out of one. Her mental state was becoming clearer in terms of what she felt she wanted and needed in life, and she was formulating a vision about what she wanted to do with her life. She also comes across as someone who preferred to avoid conflict.

I want to point out that she has several major arcana cards in her reading. There are and were outside forces at play when she disappeared. What I mean by this is that she did not cause it to happen on her own. By that I mean that I see nothing here that says she ran away or was trying to start a new life. The first card in the reading is another major indicator of this. She would not have left her family in a position where they had to worry about her. This is not someone who would have ever wanted to cause that kind of pain. She’s also not coming across as someone who would do well after cutting herself off from people she cared about. So I don’t see that as factoring in here.

The Moon reversed, another major arcana card, is one that indicates the unveiling of mysteries through the use of intuition or by allowing one’s inner voice to guide them. It could refer to Karena specifically, and her maybe having a feeling that something was off about the situation she was entering into. It might also refer to the overall need for people to follow their gut instincts about what they think happened. There might be a lot of incorrect or dishonest narratives floating around and that can cloud how a person perceives a situation.

The Nine of Cups is one that can indicate a celebration or some kind of entertaining event. So it looks like Karena did go to some kind of gathering or party as reported. I don’t know if the card is coming up to confirm this piece of information or if it is meant to establish a foundation for identifying the person I am about to describe. Did she go to this event or party with this person? Did she meet them there? I feel like there is significance here or the card would not have turned up halfway through a reading where I asked the cards to help identify the person or people involved.

The King of Wands shows me a masculine and more mature person that was involved in this situation. He was likely older than her in age. This person – and I am getting a really masculine sense about them, so I feel comfortable saying it is a man – might have been disarming to her because he came across as charismatic, willing to take risks to achieve goals, and as a positive or optimistic kind of person. However, the Two of Swords reversed – the card I pulled in relation to the King – tells me that events were such that the truth about this person was revealed to Karena. I can’t tell if he lied about who he was or if he lied about why he was showing some kind of interest in her – or in helping her. Either way, the truth of this was revealed to her. It might even eventually be revealed to everyone else – if it hasn’t been already.

The World reversed signifies two things. The first is that it marks the end of something. The second is that it conveys a lack of immediate closure. Something interesting about this card is that the reversed positioning seems to come up when police know more than they are saying, or when they probably know who committed a crime but aren’t acting on it for various reasons. The World reversed conveys a sense that there is a missing piece here.

The Nine of Swords reversed is telling me that in the wake of all this, people are trying to come to terms with what happened to her but there are people that feel profound shame or guilt about it. So I will go out on a limb and say that I do think some people know exactly what happened. One or more probably even want to share that information, if they haven’t already, but something is preventing them from doing it. The Nine of Swords upright and reversed refers to anxiety, fear, and the worry that someone’s nightmares will become a reality. One or more people are losing sleep over what they know. It can also be a betrayal card which would support the impression I have that Karena was lured into a situation under false pretenses.

When I get the High Priestess, for readings like this one, it is telling me there is something or someone that is trying to communicate the truth of a situation. These communications are conveyed through people via their inner voice, their dreams, and their subconscious. The message here is that there is likely at least one person close to Karena on an emotional level who gets gut feelings – or has what I can only describe as impressions or specific thoughts, about what happened to her. This card is saying to that person: listen to these gut feelings and follow your intuition because you are receiving guidance. The frustrating element of this is that people tend to ignore their inner voice or second-guess it. In this case, try not to do that because it is meant to help you find answers.

Question 2: How do we find the person responsible for Karena’s disappearance?

Row 1
Magician – The Fool – 8 of Wands (reversed)

Row 2
The World (reversed) – 6 of Pentacles – 3 of Pentacles

Karena McClerkin reading 2 – Dark Angels tarot

I did not feel satisfied with the information conveyed to me in the first reading because while it gave me a really clear idea about Karena as a person, it only hinted at who is responsible for her disappearance. So I asked the cards to focus in on that person and how they may be identified.

First, an impression I now get from this second reading is that yes, she knew the person responsible. This is not a case where a complete stranger took her. She did know this person – at least to some degree. I’m not saying she knew them well. I don’t get that feeling either.

The Magician is a tricky card in this type of reading because upright it refers to someone who has achieved an elevated level of skill or proficiency at what they do. They are in a particular line of work, and they know how to do it. In a lot of situations, it carries positive meaning in the upright position, but not always. The person must have come across as having the resources and ability to do something for Karena – or to help her. But it feels like she was conned. It comes across as a situation where someone deceived her for a reason unknown and unsuspected by her. They had ulterior motives.

The Fool shows me that Karena was willing to take a leap of faith with regard to this person. She trusted too blindly. I think that because Karena was a genuinely fair and good-hearted person, she could sometimes be blind to the truly dark side of humanity because it wasn’t something to which she could personally relate. The Fool tells me she put trust in the wrong person. I really feel like she was tricked into something here, but I cannot get a clear idea about why or what.

The Eight of Wands reversed shows everything as being in a stalled position. It is similar to simply being in limbo. There are situations that may only unfold in time and for some reason, this is one of them. But I also feel like there are obstacles that are preventing the truth about this whole situation from becoming known. It’s like people know what happened or know what they need to do to resolve it, and they aren’t doing it. Why? I don’t understand that.

The second reading presented the World reversed once again. There are several cards in both readings that suggest an approach to an end of a cycle or situation. I do think Karena will be found. However, the Eight of Wands reversed is a card of stagnation and delays so the timeframe for this is extremely unclear. In this particular reading, the World reversed shows a situation almost coming full circle but there is an obstacle or a missing piece of information. The reading began with the Magician and has progressed through the present. There is still a missing piece to all of this that is keeping all of this from reaching a full resolution.

The Six of Pentacles is a card that usually denotes a mutually beneficial situation where there is give and take. It ordinarily depicts a scenario where someone is offering their help to someone who needs it. I think this person did offer help, but they did it for ominous reasons. The situation was not what it seemed at all.

The Three of Pentacles comes up in these readings when there is a need for cooperation and teamwork. There is a foundation of helpful information that already exists. Somehow, the main person involved in all this appears to have been known to Karena. The World reversed tells me most of the pieces needed to paint a full picture are present and that there is really just one more significant one missing. Is that the obstacle that the other parts of the reading are alluding to? People in the right positions, with the right information, are not willing to share what they know or work together?

I am finding aspects of these readings quite frustrating because it feels like this case should have already been solved. I can really only describe this situation as being one that appears completely clouded by fog. The answers are right there – practically out in the open – but remain unseen. Why?

Question 3: What is the astrological sign of the person involved in Karena’s disappearance?

Temperance (reversed)

Question 3 – New Era Elements tarot

The card suggests the person is either a Sagittarius or strongly demonstrates the attributes typically associated with this sign. The King of Wands – a card pulled previously in relation to the main person involved – is associated with the element of Fire. It supports that the person demonstrates personality traits and tendencies associated with people that are Aries, Sagittarius, and Leo. Again, Temperance is associated specifically with Sagittarius.

As always, please do not take any of the information described in the readings as fact until or unless details are proven. I always maintain the hope that a positive resolution will come for those waiting for answers.

Brittanee Drexel – Dark Angels tarot

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. When/if I say that something happened, in any part of a reading description, I mean that is what I am interpreting from the cards, their positions, and other related factors.

Brittanee was 17 years old when she disappeared after leaving the Bar Harbor Hotel in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She left New York to go on a trip to Myrtle Beach with some friends for spring break. She did not have permission to go. She told her mom that she was hanging out with people locally.

Brittanee had confided in her boyfriend about her plans to go to Myrtle Beach. Both thought it might be a good idea for her to take the trip and have some fun. However, early into the trip it was apparent she was not really enjoying herself. She didn’t seem to be getting along well with the people she had traveled with. She told her boyfriend that she was looking forward to coming home.

On the evening of April 25th of 2009, Brittanee was returning to the hotel she and her friends were staying at because one of them had asked her to return the shorts she had borrowed (and was wearing at the time). It was around 8 pm and she had about a mile and a half to walk to get from the Blue Water Resort – where she was visiting another person described as a long-time friend – and the Bar Harbor Hotel. She was texting regularly with her boyfriend during her walk back to her hotel.

At some point, Brittanee stopped texting completely. Her boyfriend knew pretty quickly that something was wrong because it wasn’t like her to ignore his texts – not to mention, she had just been conversing back and forth with him. He called her friends to see what he could find out, but no one seemed to know where she was. When her boyfriend was unable to get a response from Brittanee, he contacted her mother to tell her what was going on.

Investigators began to look for Brittanee the next morning. No one found Brittanee, or any of her belongings. Phone pings were tracked and took the police approximately 50-60 miles south of the Myrtle Beach area in a location that was remote and dangerous due to the prevalence of predatorial wildlife. A search of the area did not yield any evidence or clue about Brittanee’s whereabouts.

In June of 2016, the FBI spoke publicly at a news conference where they discussed their belief that Brittanee had been abducted in Myrtle Beach and killed shortly thereafter. An inmate named Taquan Brown claimed that Timothy Da’Shaun Taylor was her abductor and killer. Brown further claimed that he had observed her being sexually assaulted by Taylor after visiting a stash house in McClellanville. He said that Brittanee had tried to escape but was caught and taken back to the stash house and shot.

Taylor has long denied the accusations. He agreed to take a polygraph test around 2017-2018, which he reportedly failed. He has been said to have taken the polygraph while attempting to negotiate a plea on a different charge pertaining to an armed robbery.

To date, no one has been prosecuted in connected with Brittanee’s disappearance. She has not yet been found.

The Reading:

The Empress reversed is the first card representing Brittanee’s situation and mindset. It looks to me like Brittanee was pressured into the situation she was in. The card (when combined with others) that she did want to go to Myrtle Beach, but this card shows Brittanee as having been overly influenced by at least one other person – to the point of neglecting her needs and any underlying reservations she might have had. I don’t know who invited her on the trip, but there is someone in connection with her decision to go, that strongly influenced that decision. When I take in the whole of the reading, I see this dynamic and it implies that person’s knowledge exceeds what they have shared. Nothing in the cards suggests this person was her boyfriend. I want to state that outright. I also do not see anything suggesting her family was involved.

Six of Cups reversed shows me that the above influence was successful because it tapped into Brittanee’s need and desire to demonstrate more independence in her life. It is a card that can refer to travel and so it is already consistent with Brittanee’s situation. Sometimes the card denotes a sense of naivete – where a person overlooks red flags because they have more optimism or trust than they should have in the people around them.

Seven of Cups reversed tells me that it didn’t take long for Brittanee to figure out that the situation was not a good one. She regretted going and she wanted to go home. She felt trapped, however, by what she perceived as a lack of options. Based on what I read, she told her mom she was going somewhere closer to home and that she was doing things that were low key. So she would have been reluctant to call her mom and admit to her that she lied. Brittanee was probably thinking she would just deal with the situation, and it would all be over with once she got home.

The Ten of Cups is a card that usually signifies good times and a happy time with loved ones. However its placement in this reading serves to tell us more about how people in Brittanee’s life may have factored into all of this. The distinct impression I keep getting from this card, and from the ones before it, is that this situation has a link to her regular life somehow. I don’t know if it’s a link to a person or if someone she traveled with knew whoever took Brittanee (and someone did), but there is a link. The oddest thing, and I will get into this more soon, is that there appears to be a financial motive behind all this. I understand that probably sounds strange, but that aspect comes out in a few different ways and so I feel I need to mention it.

The Emperor reversed tells me there was a person she either knew, or came in contact with on this trip, that abused their authority or closeness to her. Someone made choices and behaved in a way that directly enabled the situation to progress into something with a very bad outcome for Brittanee. I find that when this card comes up, and is connected with a person, it is usually a male.

Seven of Wands reversed is a card that shows someone as feeling defeated, overwhelmed, and judged harshly by others. Brittanee traveled from one hotel room, where she went to see a male friend of hers, to the one where she was staying because one of her friends wanted her shorts back. Something about that request does not sit right. Why ask for something to be returned that you allowed someone else to borrow earlier on? Especially if you know they are still out and that coming back to the hotel might cause issues for them or interfere with their own plans? Furthermore, why wasn’t her friend in the hotel she visited concerned about her walking back at night? Did he not have a vehicle or means in which he could have saw her to the hotel safely? Why weren’t the “friends” she was staying with concerned about the same thing? It is like the cards are saying to me, “See? None of this makes sense.” I have so many problems with these circumstances and how Brittanee was treated in general.

The King of Pentacles reversed is the card that introduces the direct involvement of at least one other person in the abduction aspect of this situation. People that demonstrate the attributes associated with this card are motivated by money and they make decisions associated with the potential to make money. Such a person will exploit others, if necessary or desired, to make money or acquire material things. The energy matching this person is masculine and it is someone older and more experienced. They are coming across as the coordinator basically. The person pulling the strings. If someone in Brittanee’s life has any involvement in all of this, their connection was likely to the person represented by the King of Pentacles. If true, the motive was financial.

I pulled The Devil card in connection with the King. None of the people depicted in this reading so far are good people, but the person in the King’s position is without question the worst of them. This is a person that is materialistic and has no problem what-so-ever with enslaving or entrapping others to get what they want. They likely are connected to businesses or transactions involving drugs and there is the possibility of human trafficking here as well. Keep in mind, people that are trafficked are not always intended to remain alive for long periods of time. Some trafficking is more short-term in nature or can result in a deadly situation if a person fights back and tries too hard to gain their freedom.

Eight of Pentacles reversed is telling me that the whole situation with Brittanee was a rushed job. There is evidence out there – despite so much time having passed. The people involved in this did not plan this half as well as one might think. The card also suggests that the person pulling the strings is known for these kinds of things. They had or still have a reputation for it. This does not seem like their first rodeo, and I would expect them to have engaged in other types of similar activity. In fact, it might be a completely different case that will ultimately bring them down. I am not referring to the one involving the testimony by Brown either. I am talking about something more in line with what happened to Brittanee specifically. Look for other similar cases that have a resemblance to hers because they are out there, and they could be the key to fully solving this.

The Knight of Swords is another person directly involved. The card has come up near the end of the reading and so this person is connected with her fate. I used the word fate because I believe (and I could absolutely be wrong here) that she is deceased. The Knight of Swords is connected to the King. They were or are either family, close friends, or partners. The Knight represents a younger energy and so it would align best with someone who was either a teenager or in their early twenties at the time. At a minimum, it was someone with the mentality of a teenager or person in their early twenties.

The Fool reversed is the card I pulled in connection with the Knight. The person acting in the Knight’s position took foolish and reckless action. This person did not think the situation through, and they made a lot of mistakes pertaining to attempts to hide or cover up what they did – what they were involved with, might be a better way of stating this.

Question 2: What has prevented this case from being fully resolved?

Cards Pulled:
9 of Swords – Wheel of Fortune – 5 of Pentacles (reversed)

Traditional Manga tarot

The first card represents a situation that is a literal nightmare for many people involved. It is one that keeps people up at night and one that has prompted feelings of regret and remorse on the part of so many different people. There are people with answers to this that live in fear as well. The card is telling me there are many people who have pieces of information that they are scared to share. Anyone that has already shared information lives in a state of fear related to that. The benefit of time is that it can reduce the fear that some people have. It can also enhance that sense of a conscience that some people might find difficult to ignore over time.

The Wheel of Fortune tells me that the lack of resolution is a situation that will someday change in Brittanee’s favor in that events beyond many people’s control will bring truths about this case to the surface. The interesting aspect of cases like these is the concept that the passing of time reduces the likelihood of a resolution. While true in some cases, the passage of time can help other cases, and this is one of them. I would not be remotely surprised if investigators have more of the pieces than people realize.

The Five of Pentacles reversed is another indicator that positive changes are coming. The Wheel is turning in a favorable direction and past obstacles are no longer as big or insurmountable as they once seemed. As with any unresolved disappearance, this one will take more work and effort to fully solve. However, there is a stronger foundation that has already been established than a lot of people may know right now.

Keep fighting for Brittanee and keep her name out there. The more her name and picture is circulated, the more it may play on people’s conscience and the more likely some people will be to finally come forth with what they know. As always, please do not take any of the information described in the readings as fact until or unless details are proven. I am always hopeful for a positive outcome.

Elisa Lam – Traditional Manga tarot

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. When/if I say that something happened, in any part of a reading description, I mean that is what I am interpreting from the cards, their positions, and other related factors.

The following is an extremely basic summary of what happened to Elisa. The situation is much more complicated and detailed. However, I wanted to give a brief background on what happened for anyone seeking a rudimentary refresher.

Elisa Lam was 21 years old when she traveled to California from her home in Canada in January of 2013. She had planned a trip that appeared to include several cities. On January 26th, Elisa arrived in Los Angeles and stayed at the Cecil Hotel. She was in the habit of updating social media periodically to provide some details about her trip. She also kept in contact with her family.

However, she stopped reaching out to her family at the end of January and her parents filed a missing persons report with the LAPD. They traveled to the United States to assist with finding their daughter.

Elisa was nowhere to be found until February 19th, when a hotel maintenance worker checked the large water tanks located on the roof of the hotel because guests were complaining about problems with the water pressure. He reportedly saw Elisa’s body inside one of the tanks and alerted management.

Elisa’s cause of death was noted as an accidental drowning and her diagnosis of bipolar disorder was cited as a contributor. No explanations or information were given about why or how she ended up in the water tank. She had no illegal substances in her system, nor did it appear she had been drinking. Medications consistent with those she had brought on the trip – and was prescribed – were found in her system.

The Reading:

Before you read this, please remember that I have no way to know what happened for certain. Don’t take any of the information described in the readings as fact until or unless details are proven.

The reading for Elisa begins with the Knight of Pentacles. Typically, the first card I pull in a reading reflects the attitudes or energy of the person I am reading on. There are exceptions sometimes. When representative of people, court cards reflect an energy that is correlated with an age range and gender. However, the person represented can really be any age or any gender. The intent of court cards is to mirror the energy or attributes they are projecting. The Knight of Pentacles represents a person that gives off youthful energy and is grounded. It also comes up in readings when a person is slowly working toward accomplishing something and is waiting patiently to make progress as they plug along. This card presents Elisa and her mindset when the situation causing her death began to unfold.

I pulled the Justice card in relation to the Knight card. It’s positioning in relation to the Knight card tells me that person is seeking justice. The person – Elisa in this case – has and is waiting patiently for justice to happen. She is looking for accountability. The cards presented this information up front as a way to clue me in that a person, or people, are responsible for her death and they have not been held accountable for it.

The Hermit reversed is the second card in the row and shows me someone who has or is experiencing isolation. The energy is that of someone who has been reclusive but seeks to break out of those patterns so they may socialize and make meaningful connections. The card is consistent with what is known about Elisa taking a trip to the United States and expressing a desire to have a good experience. However, it tells me that a specific goal of the trip was to come out of isolation and meet people.

The Page of Swords represents a youthful energy and is associated with someone who is full of energy and very communicative. This person articulates themselves well and they enjoy having passionate conversations or debates. The energy and attributes seem consistent with how some people reported Elisa’s behavior close to the time of her death – such as the owner of a bookstore who described her as friendly and talkative, asking a lot of questions and engaging in conversations with a lot of different people. The Hermit reversed showed us someone who was trying to get back out there and become an active part of society. The Page is the execution of those efforts in terms of the approach taken.

Pages can also represent messages that are coming or have been received – depending on the type of reading and the placement of the card. If applied here, the Page could also refer to the way in which Elisa was communicating with others – such as through the sending of a text, call, email, or letter. It would refer to a quick method (Swords is a faster moving energy) and so a verbal type of message – where the person blurts out something they probably should not say– is possible here. If that’s the case, this happened in such a way that it impacted the person in the Queen of Pentacles reversed card, and they were not happy about it.

I pulled the Queen of Pentacles reversed as the card associated with the Page of Swords. Though the card’s imagery depicts a female, court cards can represent any gender so it could go either way. It denotes some kind of direct relationship or interaction between the person in the Page position and the one in the Queen position and has come up because it pertains to the question I asked. The Queen of Pentacles upright has a lot of positive attributes. In its reversed position, though, it shows a negative and difficult person. The person usually has a good sense for business, but in a reversed position it shows them as making decisions based on greed and selfishness. In the upright position, it comes up for people who typically make a good living and support themselves. However, in the reversed position it can mean a person who is spending money foolishly, making bad investments, or living off another person’s wealth. This is someone looking out for themselves and possibly their career, since material and financial matters are a high priority for them.

The Three of Swords reversed suggests that a conflict that occurred was, for the most part, resolved – at least in the mind of one of the people involved. Sometimes the card comes up when someone else is holding a grudge where they pretended to move on from something but really still had negative thoughts about it. There are times when the imagery conveys additional meaning. There are three swords shown as penetrating a single heart. Cards that I will be discussing momentarily suggest there were two other people, besides Elisa, involved in this situation. Three total people tied directly to the above-mentioned conflict.

The Nine of Wands reversed is a card that comes up when a person feels like they have no energy left in them to argue or fight a battle. Basically, if applied to Elisa and her situation, it means that whatever conflict she experienced wore her down to the point where was no longer putting up an active defense. Sometimes, a second dynamic with this card is a situation where someone stops actively contributing to a conflict or problem because they are afraid of the consequences that might happen if they address it directly. I don’t know if the Nine of Wands reversed is connected to the first conflict or if there was a second that occurred.

The next card is the Knight of Wands reversed and its positioning suggests it was the other person – or another person – involved. A person meeting this description is one that is behaving in a manner that is reckless and arrogant. Such a person may feel untouchable and thus behave in ways that a lot of people wouldn’t – simply for fear of the consequences. The Knight of Wands reversed is not worried about consequences. They act before they think, and they are impatient. It is possible that whatever the conflict felt settled between the people depicted by the Page and Queen, but not so much by this person who represents the Knight. They might have still felt wronged so to speak. The energy associated with them is on the younger side (someone behaving like an older teenager or someone in their twenties, for instance). The person could be older, but if so, they were behaving in a way that is more consistent with a person lacking maturity. There’s a sense of entitlement here.

The Two of Swords, in relation to the above Knight card, places Elisa in a position where she felt stuck in the middle of something. She probably knew the situation was not good or right in terms of its progression, but she could have also been in denial about the seriousness of her predicament. Events had not yet turned in such a way to suggest she had something to fear. The Two of Swords can represent someone who needs to make a difficult decision (Elisa), but they are hesitant to do it without spending a lot more time thinking about it. The person doesn’t want to make the decision yet. They want to think about it and consider the ramifications. The problem is that the card can also hint at information or circumstances the person in question does not know about – information that would absolutely change their reaction to a situation or problem.

The Eight of Wands card shows me things from that then on moved quickly. It is a card with energy that typically feels positive to the person the cards are communicating information about. Think of it as forces coming together toward a common goal, or the universe aligning in just such a way as to allow events to unfold in a specific manner. However, its relationship to the Two of Swords tells me that things were not quite as they appeared, and the rapid pace of the events worked against Elisa. A decision needed to be made fast, on Elisa’s end, to avoid a bad outcome – and that’s assuming avoidance was even a possibility to begin with. It might not have been.

The cards show progressive and quick escalation with the above card. The Eight of Cups reversed shows me that Elisa was in a situation she needed to get out of, but for whatever reason either couldn’t or hesitated. The card can mean that the person in question is experiencing confusion about what they should do. That kind of desperate confusion can motivate people to do things they ordinarily wouldn’t and so I can’t rule out the possibility that she went to the roof on her own accord to hide from one or more people – and situation – mentioned above. It’s entirely possible she got into the water tank because she didn’t realize the danger of it or thought it was the only place she could truly hide. The reading just is not clear on this aspect.

Whatever she did or didn’t do, in relation to all of this, the Judgement card in the reversed position shows me someone who regretted their decision (or indecision) and felt a sense of almost self-hatred for not fixing or getting out of a situation. The card takes the concept of self-doubt, and one’s tendency to judge their own behaviors or choices harshly and applies them to the individual the reading is focused on. Major arcana cards usually reflect significant aspects or influences associated with the reading, and they hint at the lack of control people sometimes have in their lives. The card conveys the idea to me that forces that were out of Elisa’s control, but she blamed herself for it all anyway.

The last card in the reading is Strength reversed. It points to a time of intense fear and worry when paired with other cards here. Whatever happened with the conflict and/or people described above, the situation did not end well because Elisa couldn’t or didn’t extricate herself from it. It supports the possibility that she hid, or tried to hide, because it shows someone as losing their sense of inner strength or their ability to take back control of the situation. She also could have simply been cornered in such a way sealed her fate. Again, I cannot tell from these cards exactly how that aspect of the situation played out.

What is frustrating about this reading is that while it shows at least one major conflict, and likely two or more other people involved in it, it does not provide a comfortably clear explanation for her death – except to show she didn’t casually or randomly fall into the tank. Nothing in the reading points to suicide either. The reading does convey the sense that others were involved in some direct way and that conflict between them set the wheels of all this in motion. Whatever happened, Elisa does not feel the people involved were held to account for it. There is still a need or desire for Justice – as shown early on.

Those are my interpretations and opinions only. I hope that somehow the answers about what really happened become known.

Asha Degree reading – Traditional Manga deck

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. When/if I say that something happened, in any part of a reading description, I mean that is what I am interpreting from the cards, their positions, and other related factors.

My background knowledge on this case/situation is limited. A very basic summary, to provide some insight into what is known and not known, is that Asha was 9 years old when she disappeared in February of 2000. It is believed that she disappeared in the early morning hours of February 14th. Multiple people claimed to have seen a little girl matching her description walking along a highway around the time she would have been missing. However, none of the witnesses know what happened to her beyond that and claimed she was completely alone.

One person reportedly tried to stop to offer help but said that it seemed to scare her and she ran into a wooded or tree-lined type of area. At some point, her backpack was found at a construction site off Highway 18 and was wrapped in a plastic bag. The bag was linked to her because it has been reported that it contained her name and phone number. I did not come across concrete information about what else the bag had in it. She has been missing ever since.

The Reading:

I want to take a moment to remind anyone that reads this, I have no way to know what happened for certain. Please do not take any of the information described in the readings as fact until or unless details are proven. These are only tarot readings and my opinions about what the cards might mean.

The Fool reversed puts Asha in the position of potentially taking careless action. Given that she was a child, and nine years old, it is understandable how she could end up in a situation she didn’t realize might become dangerous. The card implies an atmosphere in which a person is easier to take advantage of or feels compelled to do something that is naïve or reckless.

The 9 of Cups is viewed as a positive card upright, but in a reversed position it can point to a negative situation associated with massive disappointment, shattered dreams, and misery. In its position next to the Fool reversed it suggests a direct relationship to Asha and her mindset when all the events unfolded. Things did not go remotely as planned.

The Ace of Swords is a card suggesting a plan of action and clarity on a matter at hand. It is included in the row with the above-described cards and is related. The positioning suggests that Asha had a plan in mind and had given it thought ahead of time. Swords, associated with the element of air (and its prevalence in this reading when compared to other suits), gives the impression of something that was fast-moving. While some planning appears to have played a role, it likely did not become serious or fully take root too far in advance. Most likely, the plan was formulated – at least in Asha’s mind – within a matter of a couple of days or less.

The second row begins with the Knight of Swords in a reversed position. To get further information on court cards, I like to pull an additional card that is positioned over the court card. It then becomes linked to any cards it directly touches (see the image that I took of the cards). The four of cups reversed was the card I pulled in reference to the Knight of Swords reversed.

The Knight of Swords reversed refers to a younger male energy (keep in mind that court cards do not absolutely mean a reference to a person, nor are they restricted to a reference only to people who match their gender or age portrayal on a card). Knight court cards give off an energy that is more mature than that of a Page, but that is more active and less experienced than a Queen or a King. Due to its reversed position, the card represents someone with energy associated with the element of air. Astrological signs linked to swords include Aquarius, Libra, and Gemini. However, the astrological signs associated with a court card are intended to give a picture of the person or energy the cards are conveying and so if they represent an actual person, they could belong to any astrological sign. They would be recognizable more by their traits and patterns of behavior. That is the significance I am placing on them here.

The Knight of Swords reversed – in the context of this reading – is coming across as a person who lacks tact and tends to be forceful or confrontational. The person may not behave this way typically, but that is the energy that is coming up in response to my question about what happened to Asha. If representing a person, I would expect the individual to be someone who was (or still is) inclined to coerce people, was or is controlling within their relationships, and may be or have been abusive verbally and/or physically with people around them. Such a person might appear (to others) to have the positive characteristics associated with the upright position of this card and thus might not typically behave like someone who would be involved in something untoward or nefarious. It depends on whether the reversed positioning characteristics are their norm so to speak.

The Four of Cups reversed tends to have a positive meaning in that it usually marks a time when a person becomes more active or moves beyond a position that once felt stagnant. This card could have a lot of meanings here, ranging from representing someone who was experiencing blocks or delays in their life who found new enthusiasm, direction, or purpose that motivated them to take forward-moving action. But it could also refer to someone who was restricted in their ability to act, due to sickness or imprisonment. The meaning is not clear to me in this reading. Cups are associated with the element of water and often represent the emotional (or lack of it, depending on the card and reading) aspect of something.

In addition to covering the Knight of Swords reversed, the Four of Cups reversed is also covering the King of Pentacles. The King of Pentacles is associated with the element of earth and represents energy consistent with the astrological signs of Taurus, Capricorn, and Virgo. If representing a person, this is someone with a mature energy who is business inclined and typically secure financially. The energy is associated with security and safety. People matching this description may work a variety of jobs and so it is difficult to identify a specific profession. The positioning of the card might provide insight into how the person in the Knight of Swords reversed position may have come to know about Asha. The card seems to indicate a connecting thread of sorts.

The card I pulled in connection with the King of Pentacles was the Death card. In many cases, the Death card has positive meaning in that it can reflect a transformation, the resolution to a situation or problem, or a release from something. But there are instances where Death can represent an actual physical death and I suspect that could be the case here. When I placed this card over part of the King of Pentacles, it also took a position where it covered the Devil reversed. I need to spend more time thinking about this combination because along with other cards, such as Justice reversed and the Sun reversed, it gives the impression of there possibly being a sexual motive behind this. However, I am hesitant to really say that with confidence based on this reading alone. I cannot rule out an accident based on the way these cards display, though they are pointing to something more deliberate and at least somewhat planned. At this time, I cannot figure out the link between the two court cards in the second row. There is an important link there, but it is not clear whether the link pertains to how someone would have known about Asha or gained access to her or if it refers to someone with greater involvement. Questions I have include whether this person is related by blood or marriage to the person represented by the Knight card? Does this person have pertinent information? Or is the link merely the person who made it possible for Asha and the other person to cross paths? Maybe a future reading that focuses more on this aspect would help clarify.

The positioning and placement of figures on the cards suggest that the Knight of Swords was focused on the person depicted in the Fool reversed. Given the nature of my question, I feel confident the person represented in the Fool card is Asha. I want to say that I am not getting any impression from the cards that anyone in her immediate family knows what happened to her. If they know or are acquainted with one or more people that do, my sense is they are unaware of this or at least uncertain if they happen to suspect someone. From an intuitive perspective, it seems there is a connection between whoever was involved and the family. The family likely knows the person involved – possibly through a third person (King of Pentacles?) – but none of this reads as the immediate family (mother, father, and brother) as being involved. A careful examination of a younger person – or a person whose maturity level is on par with that of a teenager or a person in their earlier twenties – that Asha may have come into repeated contact with – could prove helpful.

The last card on the second row is the Devil reversed. This card can lean toward the positive if other cards suggest that someone is letting go of something, gaining freedom from an obsession, addiction, or another similar type of entrapment. In this case, the Devil reversed could refer to the destruction or collapse of whatever plan was in place leading to whatever events unfolded. The position often denotes a sense of freedom, which can be literal freedom or emotional freedom. It gives a sense of being detached from the death card that covers it.

The third row tends to represent the aftermath or outcome of the events. In this case, it refers to the events that occurred in 2000. The Six of Swords reversed indicates a person trying to run from something they have done or a bad situation. The energy suggests a person who feels trapped by a situation. The positioning of the cards shows a desire for mental distance and possibly physical distance as well. This means the person may have moved or put further distance between themselves and the location/s associated with the event shortly after. Did they live in the same area or state? The cards show a strong likelihood of this.

I am reading the Sun reversed as an impression on the part of whoever is involved (and I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of two people being involved in some capacity) that they feel they have gotten away with whatever happened. Something to consider here is that this might cause whoever has direct information on what happened to say more than they should. On an intuitive level, I do feel this person (or people) have communicated with others about what happened. If there is a second person involved, my thought is they might have been brought into the situation to help cover it up or they had some other kind of secondary involvement. The Knight of Swords reversed, if representative of a person, denotes arrogance or a sense of feeling as though enough time has gone by that they are safe.

Justice in the reversed position is often associated with unfair outcomes. I have found, when doing readings on missing people and/or crimes, it tends to suggest that something outside of the law occurred – meaning at least one or more laws were broken during the events surrounding Asha’s disappearance, making it a criminal event in some way. In conjunction with other major arcana cards included in this reading, Justice reversed indicates to me that Asha is deceased. The outcome of the events do not seem to have come out in her favor. However, there is always the possibility of a positive outcome. I don’t believe in giving up on hope without completely convincing evidence proving an outcome is indeed a negative one.

I will do another reading on Asha in the future. I find that if I put time and space in between readings, I can sometimes get a better understanding of what may have happened. I also like to note whether I get similar cards and/or combinations in different readings on the same subject matter.
