On July 13th of 2011, a woman named Rebecca Zahau (also referred to as Rebecca Nalepa) was found hanging at the Spreckels Mansion in Coronado, California. She lived with her boyfriend, Jonah Shacknai.

Question: Who caused Rebecca’s death?

Row 1
9 of Cups – 10 of Cups – 4 of Swords

Row 2
7 of Swords (reversed) – Ace of Pentacles – King of Swords (reversed)
Card pulled for the King of Swords (r): Strength (reversed)

Row 3
6 of Pentacles (reversed) – King of Wands – Empress
Card pulled for the King of Wands: 9 of Pentacles

So I can tell you right now that the reading is conveying to me that this was a murder. This was not a suicide. I’ll get into that in more detail shortly, but I knew the answer to my question before I even processed the entire reading because of the appearance of the Empress at the end. It’s a tarot reading. It is not proof of anything, but this reading is a clear one to me. It is one of the more straight forward ones I have interpreted in recent times.

The Nine of Cups, appearing at the start of the reading, tells me that Rebecca was happy before the events that transpired with her boyfriend’s young son, Max. Max’s death was ruled as accidental – stemming from injuries he sustained inside the house while he was playing. So before Max became critically injured (I believe that he died within days of Rebecca’s death), Rebecca was happy. She felt she had a good life, she felt thankful for it, and things were going well.

The Ten of Cups really serves to emphasize that Rebecca had a happy home life. Her relationship with Jonah appears to have been solid and it is not reading as a dysfunctional situation/household/relationship. It shows her as having been invested emotionally and that she had a desire to contribute to a positive environment.

The Four of Swords shows me that at the time of Rebecca’s death, she was definitely stressed and feeling overwhelmed. She was in a state where she was trying to cope with everything that was happening, and she was trying to gather the energy she felt she would need to help others do the same.

The Seven of Swords reversed shows that the person responsible for her death – and it is not Rebecca – is someone who was or is two-faced, a pathological liar, and a whole host of other unpleasant descriptors. The person who murdered her should have been apprehended and held criminally liable quickly, but it seems that did not happen.

The person responsible was either someone known or related to Jonah or Rebecca. They were seeking a new start – particularly as far as jobs and money were concerned. The Ace of Pentacles shows me this. The card is also suggesting that financial or material factors played a role in protecting the person or people involved (you will understand why I am putting “people” out there as a possibility soon).

The King of Swords reversed represents the person who actually committed the crime. The corresponding card is Strength reversed. It communicates that this person made Rebecca feel helpless and victimized. This person is directly responsible. The King of Swords reversed is a person who manipulates situations and people – primarily through their words or methods of communicating.

The Six of Pentacles reversed shows a scenario where the person mentioned above was abusing or taking advantage of someone else’s generosity. I don’t know all the specifics on that aspect, but there was an imbalance in terms of financial or material resources. And this factors into all of this, though I don’t yet understand exactly how.

The King of Wands, in its upright position, is making an appearance before the reading is finished and I am not sure if this is because this person is involved in some way or if it is because they have information or knowledge that would expose the person who committed the murder. The Nine of Pentacles, pulled in combination with the King, shows me someone who is doing well financially and is self-reliant. They had, or have, a good amount of financial or material freedom is how I would describe it. It reads like it might be Rebecca’s boyfriend, but I’m not in a position to say for sure. Because I don’t know, and this reading is not providing full clarity here.

The Empress is a card that I often get at the end – or close to the end – of readings where a murder has occurred. Before I started publishing readings, I spent a lot of time practicing on cases that had already been solved – particularly ones I knew little about before I did the readings. Then I would go back and see what interpretations were right and try to learn from the ones that I got wrong. I refer to those as after-the-fact readings because they really only serve to help me understand what specific cards are likely to mean in readings where the answers have not yet been uncovered. This card, combined with other give-away cards pointing to murder, is how and why I feel confident saying that Rebecca did not cause her own death. This was not a suicide. Another person caused her death and it was deliberate.

Theo Hayez

Disappearance: 05/31/2019
Location: Cape Byron, New South Wales, Australia

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. Tarot reading is an art and not a science.

Theo Hayez disappeared on May 31st of 2019. He was 18 years old at the time. He was reported last seen leaving a bar called Cheeky Monkeys. Theo is said to have traveled to Australia from Belgium.

Question: Who or what caused the disappearance of Theo Hayez?

Row 1
The Lovers (reversed) – The Fool (reversed) – Wheel of Fortune (reversed)

Row 2
10 of Swords – 2 of Pentacles – 4 of Swords

Row 3
7 of Pentacles (reverse) – 3 of Pentacles (reversed) – Queen of Swords
Card pulled for the Queen of Swords: Queen of Pentacles (reversed)
Card pulled for the Queen of Pentacles (r): The Hermit (reversed)

Theo Hayez reading 1

The first card pulled is the Lovers reversed. It looks like someone was faced with an important decision and made a bad choice, or there was some kind of relationship (may or may not have been romantic in nature) that was problematic and potentially full of conflict. Because I asked about who or what, I am not sure if this represents Theo or someone else just yet.

The Fool reversed is someone taking a reckless and/or naïve action. It can be a situation where someone puts their trust in another that probably doesn’t have their best interests at heart.

The Wheel of Fortune reversed is a card that’s indicating someone’s luck turned. The reading does not introduce people until the end and so most likely, these three major arcana cards on the first row pertain to Theo. So it’s like something happened, outside of his control, that caused him difficulties and/or delays.

And things kind of seem to have gone from bad to worse with the Ten of Swords. That is often a card that features betrayal, backstabbing, and/or people being victimized. I want to point out that I’m not saying it’s a card pointing to deliberate foul play, but it’s a rough card to get in these readings. A facet to this card, that a lot of people don’t always think about, is that it has much to do with a person’s patterns of thought and perceptions about whatever is going on with them. So it can sometimes just indicate someone is in a difficult place mentally and emotionally. It really does depend on the surrounding circumstances.

The Two of Pentacles is depicting a person trying to balance aspects of their life. Typically, they are trying to do this under pressure or amidst various issues going on in the background. It is also a card where someone is kind of weighing options to decide what to do next.

The Four of Swords is a card that comes up when a person hits their maximum on feeling stressed or overloaded and so they seek solitude or rest.

The Seven of Pentacles reversed is another card indicating possible delays or setbacks. It usually pertains to financial or material matters, but it depends.

The Three of Pentacles reversed is like a collaboration that went wrong or was not working out. This can span a lot of different possibilities, but the key takeaway is that whatever happened appears to involve someone else – or happened because of something that involved someone else. I’ve seen it described as a card that can indicate hard learned lessons as well.

The last set of cards consist of two possible people that had some kind of influence on, of knowledge about, what happened. I’m not saying they caused it necessarily, but they are included in the overall circumstances and could shed more light on what happened for that reason alone. So we appear to have two adult females: the Queen of Swords and the Queen of Pentacles reversed. Keep in mind that the cards can refer to people of the opposite sex and there can be variations in terms of the age of a person represented by one of these cards.

The Queen of Swords is a logical thinker. They make decisions based on logic. They don’t usually make decisions based on emotion. The Queen of Pentacles reversed is someone who focuses a lot on material and/or financial aspects of life. In its reversed position, this is showing someone who isn’t grounded and can potentially be really manipulative.

The Hermit reversed is showing someone involved – potentially Theo – as being isolated or withdrawing from people around them. Because this card is directly linked to two court cards, the implication is that it’s possible this isolation was facilitated, or helped, by someone linked to the court cards.

I’m hoping I get more from the second reading because this one is a bit confusing. However, that happens a lot when I don’t have background knowledge. I try to avoid reading beyond the date of a person’s disappearance and where they were last seen – whenever possible because I’m human and I could potentially become biased based on what I read, which then can cause me to miss really important information in a reading that I would have picked up on had I gone in being more objective.

Question: Why did Theo Hayez disappear?

Row 1
6 of Cups – Wheel of Fortune (reversed) – 2 of Pentacles

Row 2
Page of Swords – 3 of Pentacles (reversed) – 7 of Pentacles (reversed)
Card pulled for the Page of Swords: King of Swords (reversed)
Card pulled for the King of Swords (r): 7 of Wands (reversed)

Row 3
10 of Wands – 4 of Pentacles (reversed) – 9 of Cups

Theo Hayez reading 2

The Six of Cups is suggesting Theo might have been feeling a little homesick. He might also have been thinking or reminiscing about the past.

The Wheel of Fortune reversed came up a second time and so it’s reading like his luck turned in a negative way. Usually, the Wheel pertains more to chance and luck than it does to the actions of the person impacted. It’s kind of like being in the wrong place at the wrong time or a victim of circumstance basically.

The Two of Pentacles also came up in the last reading and so there appears to be a financial or material aspect to all of this because this card shows him trying to balance different things, and adapt to problems, delays, or changes that might have occurred. It could also mean he had a couple of options regarding what he might do that night that he was choosing between.

The Page of Swords indicates he may have gotten a message or had an interaction (in person, via text, via phone, or some similar air-based method). It probably involved, or was about, an adult male who may tend be overly opinionated and manipulative. They are prone to manipulating facts to get their way. And the Seven of Wands reversed is showing that Theo did not feel as though he was in a position where he could really defend himself. It’s a card where someone might fold on their beliefs or give in to another person because they just don’t have the stamina or motivation to keep pushing an issue.

The Three of Pentacles reversed came up again as well. As I said before, this one usually refers to something collaborative between two or more people that goes wrong somehow. It often pertains to financial or material matters, but this could range from a money or debt issue to a housing issue.

The Seven of Pentacles reversed appeared again, which is really interesting to me, because I shuffled the cards really well and I even do it in a way that forces some of them to switch positions. So the odds of getting so many of the same cards, in the same positions (upright or reversed) aren’t really that high. That tells me these are really important cards. They get to the heart of this matter in terms of shedding light on what happened here.

The Seven of Pentacles reversed usually pertains to financial or material matters. It can suggest delays, setbacks, impatience, and other problems. There’s often a sense of not finishing something that is started with this card, though I’m not sure how or if it applies here.

The Ten of Wands shows Theo as feeling overburdened with responsibilities and/or stress. It can also indicate he might have felt a person, or multiple people, took advantage of him. If accurate, it is showing him as feeling like his situation had turned into a struggle of sorts.

The Four of Pentacles reversed is hinting again at possible financial losses or a situation where he put money or resources into something that did not turn out well. Sometimes it indicates shedding people or possessions as well. In this case, if he did the latter then I would say it was due to problems and conflict touched upon in both of these readings. But there could have been spending or gambling issues too. There are a few possibilities and someone with background knowledge is going to be able to make sense of which one of these fits the best. To me, it feels like there was some kind of money situation and possibly something going on with his living arrangements – or people associated with that. I’m not sure though.

The Nine of Cups is throwing me for a loop because it’s perhaps the most positive card of all the readings thus far. It usually points to a person feeling like they have achieved an important goal or are celebrating something that is happening in their life. Does it mean there will be a resolution to all this or closure? No idea. I really don’t know what else to say about this card because it’s so contradictory when compared with the others.

Question: What information do we need to know to find out what happened to Theo Hayez?

Row 1
The Chariot (reversed) – The Sun (reversed) – 3 of Pentacles (reversed)

Row 2
6 of Wands (reversed) – The Emperor (reversed) – The World

Theo Hayez reading 3

The Chariot reversed depicts a situation involving force and aggression, typically. It can also refer to a means of travel or evidence pertaining to a vehicle. One thing to consider is the possibility that Theo was taken away from the area where people think he disappeared and perhaps this is part of the reason he has not been found.

The Sun reversed is a card of sadness and oppression. It feels like something happened to Theo that he did not want or expect.

The Three of Pentacles reversed has come up in all three readings. On it’s face, it’s coming across like there was a collaboration of sorts. Maybe there was more than one other person involved. But I just had this thought. This is a card that can refer to learning lessons the hard way or mistakes that are repeated. On the flip side of all this, what if it’s suggesting Theo isn’t the first person this has happened to? What if whoever is involved has done this before?

The Six of Wands reversed is a card depicting failure or being at a disadvantage.

The Emperor reversed is typically an adult male who abuses their power or authority, is rigid in their way of thinking, and controlling. In some cases, I have seen this card refer to manipulative people or friends – perhaps people who present as friendly but aren’t. I wonder if there is someone interfering in the investigation or pushing it in other directions. That is unclear in these readings, but this is a card that often shows an abuse of authority/power so I’m putting that out there.

The World shows something coming full circle – a cycle that completes. My hope is that it means that at some point we will know what happened to Theo and the investigation into his disappearance will be complete in terms of being solved. Hopefully, it doesn’t refer to his ultimate fate; however, that is another possibility. Only time will tell on this one sadly.

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. Haley Thomas disappeared on July 25th of 2021. She was said to have last been seen before dawn. She was 16 years old when she went missing. She has reportedly not been seen since.

Question: Why did Haley Thomas disappear?

Row 1
Death – Page of Pentacles – 5 of Wands (reversed)
Card pulled for the Page of Pentacles: 7 of Wands

Row 2
9 of Wands – King of Cups (reversed) – 8 of Cups (reversed)

Row 3
Hierophant (reversed) – Page of Cups – 10 of Swords
Card pulled for the Page of Cups: Hermit (reversed)

Haley Thomas reading 1

In response to my question regarding why Haley disappeared, the first card I pulled was Death. Death shows me there was something major that happened in her life to trigger these events.

The Page of Pentacles shows me that she may have gotten some kind of news that she perceived as positive. She might have been planning to pursue something – something pertaining to a job, school, somewhere else to live, or something else along those lines. I’m not sure what it was. But the Seven of Wands, in connection to the Page, tells me that for some reason she was put on the defensive. It’s almost reading like she wanted to do something but for whatever reason she felt like she would be under attack, or told she couldn’t do it, if other people knew. Maybe she didn’t even bring it up to anyone because she anticipated that they would not agree with it. It really could go either way.

There might have been a fight or argument about whatever all this pertained to because the Five of Wands reversed is showing the timeframe after the dust settled. It’s a card of compromising or agreeing upon some kind of solution. Sometimes it depicts a person who is worn down from trying to fight for something they want or believe in.

But the Nine of Wands reversed feels like its saying that whatever she had in mind that she wanted to do, she really did not want to compromise or give up on it. She might be someone with a bit of a stubborn side because this card is suggesting she really did not want to compromise on something.

The King of Cups reversed is suggesting there’s a man involved. This is someone who comes across as a friend but has ulterior motives. It’s a person who can also seem emotionally immature. The Four of Wands is the card I pulled in connection with him. The Four of Wands is a card that denotes some kind of celebration, party, or home coming. It’s connected to this individual though and I don’t really know what to make of it. Also, if this was someone Haley knew or was involved with, it would have been someone older than her. It’s coming across as an adult.

The Eight of Cups tells me that it was a situation she knew deep down she should leave behind and walk away from, but she chose not to do that. I don’t know if it was because of a fear of being abandoned by someone or if she was just ignoring signs telling her not to do something or what. This is such a strange reading for me because it’s hard to grasp what was going on here.

The Hierophant reversed could point to a few things. First, it could signify someone who is rebellious and unwilling to conform. Second, it can point to a broken marriage. Third, it could suggest there was a person in her life who was coming across as a mentor or adviser of some kind – someone who was presenting themselves as though they wanted to help her, when really they might not have had good intentions.

The Page of Cups is news or a message. It can be a romantic or marriage proposal. It has something to do with emotional matters of some kind. Sometimes it is a pregnancy or an engagement. Sometimes it comes up if a couple takes a next step and moves in together. Things like that It can also be something less significant, such as an admirer or someone who reveals they have a romantic interest.

Now what’s odd is that the Hermit reversed was pulled in connection with this card. Whatever was going on with the Page of Cups situation, it seems to have caused Haley to want to withdraw and become somewhat reclusive. Perhaps she did not feel this way about whoever else was directly involve in this, but there’s this sense of separation that I’m getting. Almost like to move forward with whatever it is she wanted to do she would have to do it on her own – without the support of people in her life. Was the person depicted by the King of Cups (reversed) asking her to run away to be with him? Is the issue that he is an adult, and she wasn’t?

The Ten of Swords concerns me. This is usually a card of backstabbing and betrayal. It depicts a rock bottom situation for Haley. Now, this is just a tarot reading and it does not tell me her ultimate fate. But I would say that, at a minimum, the situation did not unfold the way Haley thought it would. Something might have gone wrong for her, but I can’t tell for sure what it means in this reading.

Question: Who or what caused the disappearance of Haley Thomas?

Row 1
3 of Swords – 2 of Pentacles (reversed) – 7 of Cups (reversed)

Row 2
The Star (reversed) – Queen of Wands – 8 of Swords (reversed)
Card pulled for the Queen of Wands: 3 of Wands

Row 3
Page of Cups – Temperance – Ace of Wands (reversed)
Card pulled for the Page of Cups: Hermit (reversed)

Haley Thomas 2

The first thing that jumps out at me is that I got the Page of Cups a second time, on the third row, and I got the Hermit reversed in connection with it – just as I did in the first reading. So that is a really big piece of this puzzle. Keep in mind that I don’t have background information on this situation and so I have to try to figure out the right meaning without any real context. These readings always make more sense to people close to the person missing, or knowledgeable about the disappearance in general.

The Three of Swords is showing me a heart break situation. I asked who or what was responsible for her disappearance and so it’s telling me that it has something to do with pain related to some of kind of relationship. It often pertains to romantic ones, but not always. It can be related to a falling out with a close family member or a friend.

The Two of Pentacles reversed is showing that the person involved was trying to balance aspects of their life – particularly ones of a financial and/or material nature.

The Seven of Cups reversed is showing me someone who either had few options in terms of what they could do in their overall situation, or someone who simply felt that way. It’s also a card depicting poor choices and so the limited options were probably connected to bad decisions this person made. Now keep in mind, I don’t know if this reading is referencing a person besides Haley, or if it is referring to her. If someone else is directly involved, it pertains to them. If she left on her own volition, then it could possibly pertain to her.

The Star reversed indicates a situation for the person responsible felt hopeless. Something happened, or was happening, that made the person feel as though they wouldn’t get what they wanted. This doesn’t always mean the situation was all bad; however, it does mean that the person viewed it as such.

The Queen of Wands is typically an adult female – though there are always exceptions. In its upright position it is showing me someone with positive attributes, though they probably have a bit of a hot temper and might be perceived as aggressive sometimes. The Three of Wands shows this person as possibly traveling or moving forward with plans that were made. The person in the Queen’s position was feeling like things were going well.

The Eight of Swords reversed is depicting a person who felt they achieved a sense of freedom or relief. The card usually suggests that a person has had to overcome something significant – or general hardships – to obtain that sense of freedom.

The Page of Cups, and the Hermit reversed, mean something important here. The problem is that they can be interpreted in different ways. It’s like someone proposed something to Haley, but the caveat was that it would require her to withdraw or isolate herself from other people. A scenario that might line up is if she met an adult and they told her she could do live with them, but it would require her to essentially become a recluse for obvious reasons (she’s a minor). If that’s not the scenario then it’s something like that in terms of there being something offered, but this downside of having to live a certain way if she did.

Temperance is a card depicting harmony. It’s a positive card that can point to someone doing things in moderation, gaining perspective, and potentially finding a strong relationship or what they feel is a soul mate.

The Ace of Wands reversed is a card that conveys the receiving of bad news, or the experiencing of delays, with regard to something a person was embarking on. To give an example, if a person became pregnant and was preparing to plan and move ahead with having a baby, this card might point to a difficult pregnancy or a miscarriage. I’m not saying this is what happened here, but it would be a scenario along those lines in terms of there being a new beginning that is delayed or significantly impeded. It could even be something as simple as she experienced a new beginning, by leaving to live with someone else secretly, but it didn’t turn out as well as she hoped. Or it wasn’t at all what she expected.

Question: What else do I need to know about what happened to Haley Thomas?

6 of Wands (reversed) – 8 of Cups (reversed) – 5 of Cups (reversed)

Haley Thomas reading 3

The Six of Wands reversed depicts a situation that resulted in some kind of failure. It usually depicts a person feeling as though they are a disgrace, or that they will be. It’s a card of disappointment.

The Eight of Cups reversed came up in the first reading. This is a situation where someone probably should have walked away from a situation, but they didn’t. Part of the reason why people don’t do that is because they have a fear of being abandoned or alone. Or they fear change so they stay in a situation they shouldn’t.

The Five of Cups (reversed) shows a person letting go of past pain and sorry. If a person has been isolated or keeping to themselves due to depression, or grief over something, it can depict them returning to the world in terms of beginning to reach out to others.

I want to take the last card as a positive one, although the outcome card for the first reading is not a positive one. However, sometimes the Ten of Swords is more a reference to a person’s state of mind than it is to actual events that occur. It’s a tough card to read here. I would really like to figure out exactly what happened to Haley. My hope is that she is okay somehow, and that she will re-emerge at some point, but I simply can’t tell from these readings alone.

Ryan Rogers

Disappearance/death: 11/15/2021

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. Tarot reading is an art and not a science.

Ryan Rogers was found deceased on November 15th of 2021. He was fourteen years old. Very little information has been shared regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.

Question: Who or what caused Ryan Rogers’ death? (This reading was done on November 14th of 2021)

Row 1
10 of Swords (reversed) – High Priestess (reversed) – Page of Swords (reversed)
Card pulled for the Page of Swords (r): 2 of Cups

Row 2
3 of Cups – The Hierophant (reversed) – The Chariot (reversed)

Row 3
Strength – 2 of Wands (reversed) – 8 of Swords (reversed)

Ryan Rogers reading 1

The Ten of Swords reversed is a card that often indicates someone has hit rock bottom. Often, it pertains to emotional matters or problems that have built up over time.

The High Priestess reversed warns of people that had a hidden agenda. It can also point to a situation where someone did not trust their intuition – they might have sensed that a situation was dangerous, but maybe did not have enough evidence in their own mind to rationalize listening to that instinct. It’s also a card of secrets or hidden dangers.

The Page of Swords reversed is a card that I often see in situations where someone is acting like a bully or behaving aggressively toward another person. Since the question pertains to who caused Ryan’s death. Often the Pages represent younger people, but they can also represent immature or childish adults. The person depicted is probably known to become verbally abusive. It might also be someone who spreads vicious or malicious gossip. The Two of Cups is hinting at the matter possibly being related to a romantic interest or relationship. I am not really clear on that aspect, but it came up in connection with the Page of Swords reversed so it might indicate a partial or full motive. It could possibly suggest a person that was known to Ryan – at least casually or just pertain to the person. It’s unclear.

If accurate, the Three of Cups might also saying that this person (or these people, because it is not clear how many people were involved or know something about what happened) are possibly in Ryan’s general social circles or social environment. There is a chance it could refer to a specific social event or celebration, but I don’t know anything about Ryan’s life or what happened around the time of his death and so I really can’t be sure. I wouldn’t rule out three people being involved, including Ryan. A perpetrator and someone who either helped, or someone who has information about what happened. It could be as simple as the card saying there is a third person who has critical information. Hard to say for sure.

The Hierophant reversed is a card that shows someone going against traditions or social norms. It can also indicate a person who is judged for their lifestyle or choices. This card can represent people who act in a delinquent or rebellious manner. The question is in relation to who or what caused Ryan’s death and so that tells me it is referring to that individual, not Ryan. In some cases, it points to a situation involving a divorce. I’m hesitant to attach specific meaning to this card here because it’s unclear overall in this reading.

The Chariot reversed is a card representing a lack of control or power. Sometimes it is a revenge card or one that comes up when someone is retaliating against another. There are times when it actually represents a car or vehicle. I believe I read he was riding his bike around the time of his death, but it doesn’t feel like that is what it is communicating here. The lack of control and impulsivity aspect is coming across as being more prominent – in light of the other cards.

Strength shows a situation where someone might have been trying to come across as brave or fearless. Maybe Ryan tried to stand his ground in some type of interaction that went bad.

The Two of Wands reversed appears to pertain to the person or people involved because it indicates a lack of planning and feeling as though a person has limited options. The person has now painted themselves into a corner – through their actions – and they are aware of this. They feel trapped and as though they have limited options. Indeed, they do have limited options.

The Eight of Swords reversed is showing someone who wants to break free of their situation and experience relief from it. It can represent a sense of extreme guilt or shame. So someone involved might be having a kind of emotional breakdown in response to the situation or suffer from mental health issues. If more than one person is involved, then I would look for a person who comes across as having a guilty conscience.

Question: What circumstances caused Ryan Rogers’ death?

Row 1
King of Wands (reversed) – 8 of Swords – 6 of Wands (reversed)
Card pulled for the King of Wands (r): Empress

Row 2
9 of Wands – Hanged Man (reversed) – 6 of Cups (reversed)

Card pulled for the Page of Cups (r): 7 of Pentacles (reversed)

Ryan Rogers reading 2

The King of Wands reversed is a card that comes up when someone is dealing with someone who acts like a bully or a tyrant. Often it refers to an adult male, but there are always exceptions with the court cards. It is someone who has a volatile temper and acts impulsively. The Empress, in connection with this card, can mean a few different things. First, the card could represent Ryan’s mom and show that the person represented by the King of Wands reversed card is known to her in some way. However, it could have other meanings as well. It’s difficult to interpret in this particular reading. No, I’m not saying she is involved at all. It’s not reading that way. But somehow she might know the person. Again though, the Empress usually points to a motherly figure and that description could also just fit someone the perpetrator knows.

The Eight of Swords shows Ryan as feeling trapped, helpless, and victimized. Sometimes it is a card that signifies emotional distress that causes a person to feel this way, while other times it is more literal. Other times, it is a combination of both. No matter what, it is a card depicting someone experiencing significant stress in a situation. It’s reading as a bullying situation – especially next to the King of Wands reversed. Like a confrontation where someone trying to assert their dominance and behaving in an aggressive and/or intimidating manner.

The Six of Wands reversed comes up when people are not receiving credit for their accomplishments. It can also come up when someone is the subject of negative or unfair talk – such as slander or vicious gossip. This person might seek out attention, but in its reversed positioning there is the possibility they feel they are not getting what they seek (at least as of the time of Ryan’s murder).

The Nine of Wands shows that despite everything going on, Ryan was trying to push ahead and get beyond it. If accurate, he was hurt over the situation and upset by it, but he was also trying to gather strength to overcome it. He was trying to make a last stand, basically, to get out of the situation.

The Hanged Man reversed comes up when someone is stalling for time and reluctant to decide or act on something. Sometimes it is because they are trying to make sure everything is in place before they make their move. Another important aspect of this card is that it points to people who keep making the same mistakes in their life. They don’t learn from them. In some cases, it can even suggest someone who has been involved in one or more crimes before.

The Six of Cups reversed usually means someone is trying to move beyond their past and mature. It’s also a card indicating that someone is trying to resolve past issues they have had. Usually these pertain to childhood issues.

The Fool reversed shows someone taking a risk that might have been reckless or not carefully thought through. It can sometimes represent putting one’s trust in the wrong person as well. But it also fits with the theme here regarding impulsive actions.

Pages in a reading typically represent one of two things: a young person, such as a child or young teenager, or a message. If it was a message, then it indicates a negative one that was received quickly (in person, via text, instant message, email, etc.). However, if it was a person then it would have been someone close to Ryan’s age or someone who acts as though they are. Attributes would have included someone who was impatient, loud, and impulsive. It’s also someone who has a strong sense of self-consciousness and tries to come across as more confident than they are.

The Knight of Pentacles reversed was pulled in connection with the above Page reversed card. If representative of another person involved or who has knowledge about what happened. Maybe they heard or saw something? It could be referring to someone a bit older than anyone who might be coming up in the Page’s position – or at least they come across that way in terms of their maturity level or behavior. Teens or twenties. It’s someone who is disloyal, irresponsible, and probably obsessed with material things – money or material possessions or trying to get them.

The Two of Swords reversed was pulled in relation to both of the above court cards and this indicates that the people’s actions and lies will be exposed. The truth about whoever is involved in this will come out. As I always point out, this is a tarot reading and cannot take the place of facts. However, if accurate, anyone involved will be exposed.

The Page of Cups reversed either refers to negative news of a romantic or emotional nature, or it refers to a person who behaved in a vindictive manner. It didn’t even necessarily have anything to do with Ryan because it might have been what set the person off in general. Someone represented by this card acts out of envy and spite, generally speaking. The Seven of Pentacles reversed is showing someone who does not make great decisions and did not plan well. They were too lazy to put in the work, or acted too impulsively, and this will likely be the reason they get caught – that or because the person in the Page of Wands reversed of Knight of Pentacles reversed position will say what they know.

Question: What else do we need to know about the circumstances surrounding Ryan’s death?

5 of Cups – 7 of Pentacles (reversed) – Knight of Pentacles
Card pulled for the Knight of Pentacles: 3 of Pentacles (reversed)

Ryan Rogers reading 3

The Five of Cups shows someone experiencing a significant amount of despair and loss in association with this situation. While that could obviously represent Ryan’s family and loved ones, I feel like it has a different kind of significance here because when I ask a question like the one above, the intention is to try to get information I don’t already have. So with that said, maybe there are multiple people involved – or multiple people with knowledge of what happened – and it is hitting at least one of them hard enough that they might be the key to getting all the answers needed. Or the perpetrator has serious regrets now.

I got the Seven of Pentacles reversed in the last reading also and so it might have more significance than I initially realized. An element to this card is bad business dealings or poor financial management. Ryan was only fourteen years old so I can’t quite understand how this applies to him or his situation. It makes more sense to apply to whoever was involved. In life, they aren’t willing to put the work in to make money. It can also point to delays and/or setbacks. Again, it’s a card where there was not a lot of planning and so I think someone was sloppy enough that there’s going to be evidence. I don’t see this as a situation where anyone involved gets away with it. Too many cards are showing that the truth will come out.

The Knight of Pentacles came up before, but it was previously in a reversed position. Here it is upright. The card in connection with it is the Three of Pentacles reversed. This is a card that comes up when a collaborative or cooperative effort goes wrong or fails to work out. So the implications of this might be that there is at least one other person involved, or it might be suggesting that Ryan had some kind of dealings with one or more other people that caused some kind of major rift. And I’m again going back to that notion of at least two other people being involved and/or having direct knowledge – besides Ryan. An alternate possibility is that there’s evidence. The foundations of their plan, or a lack of a plan, is why the whole thing failed or will fail.

No matter what, I do think that anyone involved will be caught.

Ryan Rogers reading 4

As you can see, I have done a number of readings on this case. Some of the cards that have come up in the others don’t make complete sense to me. I cannot get what happened to him out of my mind, and I keep thinking that one more reading will yield just enough information to get to the bottom of this. If only it worked that way, right?

The Seven of Cups reversed shows that the person involved in this made some bad decisions that led up to Ryan’s death. If the reading is accurate, this was a person who felt trapped by their circumstances. They felt like they didn’t have a lot of options and they were avoiding issues in various aspects of their life. Since this is a recent case, these details are still likely representative of what has been going on with this person.

The Five of Cups came up in the reading before this one. It is a card that depicts mourning and grieving. So is this someone known to Ryan and/or his family that is experiencing a sense of loss as well? Or did something happen that prompted events to unfold as they did? It’s perplexing to say the least.

The Six of Wands shows someone who either seeks praise or recognition, or someone that receives it. It’s possible this is a person who likes to have people’s attention. It might even be someone that people who know them think is a good person or someone who wants that to be perceived as that.

The Ace of Cups is suggesting some type of new beginnings for the person involved in Ryan’s death. Often, the card represents relationships that are based on emotion – such as friendships, romantic relationships, close family, etc. However, it’s suggesting that they entered into such a situation recently. It seems like it’s still fairly new to them. A life change of some kind maybe.

The King of Wands reversed has come up in the past for Ryan. It came up in the second reading I did that pertained to the circumstances surrounding his death. This is a person who loses their temper easily. They are impulsive. They may have a propensity for violence. While that last element seems obvious, given that Ryan was murdered, it’s coming up as a possible means of identifying this individual. The Two of Swords is the card I pulled in connection with them and this is telling me that this person might be in denial about what they have done. They might be unwilling to acknowledge their true culpability. It’s coming across as someone who has kind of paused everything in the midst of the chaos surrounding Ryan’s death – as though they aren’t sure what to do. No options seem really appealing to them right now.

The Star reversed is hinting to me that this person does not feel like the outcome of this situation was a good one. Whatever their intention or goal was, the wake of all this is not what they wanted, and they are probably feeling a sense of hopelessness and despair. What is tricky here is determining if they feel regret over what they did, or if they feel regret because it did not produce the results they hoped to see. I don’t know the answer to that – either way.

Judgement is showing me that this person will ultimately be held responsible for what they did. If they think they will get away with it, this reading says they won’t. This is a card that communicates both short-term and long-term consequences of one’s actions. The word I keep hearing is karma. Karma. Karma. Karma. Unlike Justice that points to legal or ethical types of karma, judgement also points to a spiritual reckoning as well.

Strength came up in the first reading I ever did on Ryan’s death – on November 14th. It can be interpreted several ways. First, it seems that the person responsible got the upper hand in terms of whatever happened between this person and Ryan. Second, it could refer to the need for patience in terms of waiting for this whole situation to play out. It’s a card that recommends a person take a courageous and brave approach to a situation. If it’s referring to the person (or people) responsible, it’s likely telling them to come clean. That’s their best bet here.

The Four of Pentacles is showing someone who is controlling, territorial, can be stingy with money or possessions, and who can behave possessively toward people and/or places. People fitting this description also tend to place a strong emphasis on money or things or wanting to get them. At times, they can be greedy or unwilling to share. There’s a sense of guarding with this card. I don’t know if this hints at a motive, but maybe. Some of this feels very senseless though – as though there won’t be an explanation of a motive that ever feels substantial enough to understand how, or precisely why, this all even came to pass.

I believe this person (or people) will get caught.

The Watts Family

Shanann, Bella, Celeste, and Nico Watts

Disappearance and death: August 13, 2018
Location: Frederick, Colorado

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. Tarot reading is an art and not a science.

I received a request to do a reading about whether anyone else was involved in the murders of Shanann, Bella, Celeste, and Nico Watts (her unborn son). Chris Watts confessed to killing his entire family in August of 2018. For a time, he said his wife had murdered the two girls. However, he recanted that statement and has not since – at least not to my knowledge – named any other person as having been involved. I will also do a second reading to ask, specifically, if Nichol Kessinger was involved or had direct knowledge about it.

Question: Was anyone else responsible, or directly involved in, the one or more of the deaths of Shanann, Bella, Celeste, and Nico?

Watts family reading 1

Something that is standing out to me, right out of the gate, is the abundance of pentacles. If this reading is accurate, it is telling me that money or material matters were a major motive here – perhaps even more than people might think. The King of Wands is someone who comes across as someone who is action-oriented, often flirty, funny, protective, and can be self-centered. This card is reading as though it is referring to Chris. If so, then this is the image he wanted to portray to others; it is not necessarily an accurate description of his nature in general. I say this because it is a generally positive card in the upright position, though it does point to reckless and impulsive tendencies.

The Ace of Swords, in connection with the King of Wands, is conveying that this person felt they had an epiphany or realization. They believed they had come to know the truth about their situation and what they thought they were meant to do in life. They had a vision of a new beginning and planned accordingly.

The Moon, in response to my question, is saying that we don’t know the whole story. There is more going on here. Efforts to deceive have been significant. The Moon sometimes signifies hidden enemies and unknown danger as well – which seems to point to the possibility that someone else was involved besides just Chris. This is a tarot reading, and people should never take it as factual. I’m just relaying what the cards are communicating.

The Hierophant reversed seems to point to the dissolution of the relationship between Chris and Shanann. However, it also serves as a reminder that an affair seemed to act as the catalyst – or at least one of the major ones – for the murders. He went against the tradition of acting as a loyal and faithful husband. Even though we already know this information, the cards are emphasizing that aspect of the situation.

Okay, so in the second row we have some interesting dynamics that are presenting. The first, in the Four of Wands, is the vision or hope for a happy family. It is often a card of celebration. It is also a card depicting teamwork. Intuitively, I’m reading this as a statement that the goal was to clear the way for Chris to have all of those things with someone other than Shanann. I’m also wondering if it is trying to tell me that the murders were meant to clear the way for a wedding. I see this card come up often for engagements and weddings. Again, there is a sense of working together or doing something collaboratively with this card also. Which could also be answering the question as to whether anyone else was involved.

The Four of Pentacles is showing a situation where someone is possessive, materialistic, and has a strong desire to have control over people and situations. They can be territorial over people and/or places. Such a person may have a past that includes events or occurrences that have contributed to these tendencies. It can point to deep-seated underlying issues that someone has.

The Five of Swords is no surprise in this reading. It’s a card that conveys conflict. Sometimes it is minimal, but other times it can represent murder, rape, and violence. This is a weird reading for me because I keep having some repeating thoughts, but I don’t want to say them because they’re awful. If true, there’s an element to Shanann’s murder that people might not have not picked up on. It’s dark and I don’t feel good about articulating or communicating it. Plus, some of it just seems bizarre to me.

So it’s important to explain what the three cards on the second row signify because I often see people say in cases like this, “Well, why didn’t he just get a divorce?” There was no way Chris was going to let Shanann start a new life with someone else. If I am reading these correctly, he did not want anyone else raising his children. But there’s a financial motive here as well. Divorce would have looked like the more expensive option. There is this idea that stands out where his family “belongs” to him. He owned them, but he wanted a different life. He did not want them to have a different – and possibly better – life though. It’s hard to fully explain it. It was an all or absolutely nothing type of situation in his mind. Either they exist fully in his life or they cease to exist at all. We already know which one he chose.

The King of Pentacles is likely an adult male who places a lot of emphasis on material aspects of life. The Eight of Pentacles reversed is suggesting that the person was bored with their job, unhappy with the direction their career was going (or not going), etc. Moreover, the card points to financial instability and problems that were heavily weighing on this person. This is a situation where someone feels like they can’t and don’t measure up.

The Page of Pentacles reversed is either negative news that set all of this into motion, or it represents someone who is lazy, doesn’t want to work as hard as necessary to achieve goals, and someone who is unusually intense. If it’s representative of negative news, it would likely be Shanann’s pregnancy. If this is the case, the pregnancy was a significant motivator.

The Five of Pentacles, pulled for the Page of Pentacles reversed, is a card that depicts people who perceive their circumstances as negative. A person might feel as though they are being left out in the cold. It can represent breakups and divorces, as well as a lack of a spiritual connection that would help to ground a person.

The Five of Wands is showing people at cross-purposes. This is conflict over differing agendas or goals. The card is one that denotes struggles, disagreements, ego clashes, etc. However, interestingly enough, it also can show someone who is feeling defensive and territorial.

The reading does hint at possible outside involvement, beyond Chris, but it isn’t coming right out and saying it in a way that is clear to me. It seems that the cards are trying to answer the question by showing me the primary motivations. The first is financial and/or material. The second is the desire to start a new life – without having to give up one’s ownership over people and things. Chris may have hated Shanann, but he did not want someone stepping in and taking his place. The reading comes across like his ego was not remotely equipped to deal with that. And he didn’t want the financial burden either.

Question: Did Nichol Kessinger have direct knowledge or involvement in the Watts family murders?

Watts family reading 2

The first reading only partially answered my question and so I am narrowing it down by asking specifically about Nichol. The top row is showing me the major players. The King of Wands reversed is Chris. The Queen of Pentacles is Shanann (I’ll explain in a moment how I know this card does not depict Nichol). The Page of Wands reversed is coming across as Nichol.

The King of Wands reversed is linked to two other cards. The first is the Knight of Swords reversed and the second is the Seven of Wands. Okay, this is really interesting. There appears to be another man involved in this somehow. I’m not saying they took part in the murders since that is unclear here. I don’t know who on earth this represents, but I can describe them as a person with regard to their personality. But first, let’s start with the King of Wands reversed. In the first reading, the King of Wands presented in its upright position – which emphasizes some of the more positive attributes associated with people that are depicted by this card. In it’s reversed position, it is showing someone who can become quite nasty. People represented by this card tend to have a hot temper and they can be disloyal.

The card pulled in connection with the King of Wands reversed is the Knight of Swords reversed. Is this someone else linked to all this somehow? Or is it merely adding on to the descriptions or behaviors and attributes of the first card? The card often depicts younger adult males, or people who behave as though they are in their teens or twenties. In its reversed position, the negative attributes of the card are enhanced and show someone who can become verbally abusive or aggressive. It can also refer to someone who has a hard time expressing themselves to others.

The Seven of Wands, pulled in connection with the Knight of Swords reversed, shows this person as taking a defensive position in which they feel they need to protect what is theirs or they feel under attack. It is coming across like there was some issue between Chris and this other person that the reading is putting out there right in the beginning. A specific trigger.

The Queen of Pentacles is an adult motherly figure who has good business sense and is able to provide for herself, and her family, when needed. It describes Shanann perfectly. There are a lot of other attributes that come with this card, such as a person who is social, generous, successful, down-to-earth, and a good mother. The Tower shows a sudden and unexpected event that caused a major upheaval. On it’s face, it suggests the event might have been her murder. It could have been a revelation as well though that rocked her core and foundation. If the Tower does represent her murder, it’s highly unlikely she even saw it coming. As though she was attacked very suddenly and when she wasn’t anticipating it. If that’s true, then I don’t think the story Chris tells about them having an emotional conversation just before is true. The Tower suggests a sneaky type of attack – something that happens very suddenly and is not expected.

The Page of Wands reversed – when depicting a person – represents either a child or someone that has childish tendencies. Such a person can behave in ways that are impatient, gullible, moody, and impulsive. If representative of Nichol, it shows a side to her that she may have tried to keep hidden – one that reveals a deep sense of self-consciousness, fear, and pessimism. It would be someone with issues that are not necessarily immediately obvious to others in ordinary circumstances. The Devil, the card connected to the Page of Wands, is all about the chains that bind. There can be so many facets to this card. It could indicate she had a full-blown obsession with Chris and/or Shanann that may or may not have been shared/reciprocated (though circumstances suggest it was). It depicts someone who uses things like their sexuality to manipulate and control people- seduction. It can also show cruel and malicious intentions. So this card does not paint Nichol in a positive light at all. I would not be at all surprised if she’s still trying to pull strings or exert an influence in his life. To this day. And if she is, people should ask themselves WHY. Again, this is a tarot reading. I’m not saying any of these things are facts. I have no way of knowing. I’m just communicating the story the cards are telling.

The second row begins with the Seven of Pentacles reversed and the cards on this one pertains to Nichol, since the question is about whether she had direct involvement. The Seven of Pentacles reversed depicts people who are impatient and unwilling to put in the work to achieve their goals. They want the easiest methods possible. People that get this card might demonstrate a desire to find ways to get their needs or wants met in a way that is easy for them. It also depicts a lack of growth. Time keeps going by, but this person doesn’t grow emotionally or spiritually in a positive way.

The Five of Swords reversed can go a couple of ways. On one hand, it can denote the end to struggles through peaceful means. On the other, it can depict a situation in which there is an escalation in violence or a non-peaceful resolution. It’s also a card of sacrifice – maybe doing something or agreeing to something to end conflict. The implications of that, if true, are unpleasant.

The Six of Swords reversed is showing a person as being stuck in a particular situation and it represents a situation where trouble is, and has been, brewing in the times surrounding the murders – trouble that a person does not feel they can run or hide from entirely.

The Nine of Swords is showing Nichol as having a burden and/or darkness that hangs over her. It’s often thought of as a nightmare card in which people are the most troubled by the thoughts or visions in their mind. It can be a card of regret and remorse. It can be someone with psychological issues too.

The Ace of Swords reversed shows a plan that has failed and can represent a wrong decision that a person has made. It is also a card that shows poor planning. I’ve seen it come up in cases where a person was kidnapped and/or murdered and attempts to get away with it were ultimately unsuccessful – due to an overall failure to plan properly. The Ace of Swords upright is someone speaking and asserting their truth. In it’s reversed position, it’s someone that is trying to hide the truth.

An odd, and somewhat interesting, thing about the World card is that I have it come up in a fair number of readings pertaining to murders. I have never really figured out precisely how or why it appears in these instances, but it seems to denote circumstances coming full circle – whether they succeeded or failed.

Some things that stood out to me, after analyzing both readings, is that there appears to be at least some knowledge and involvement on the part of one or two people (besides Chris). Like I said before, no one should take tarot readings as fact. But if any of this is accurate, it seems that Nichol knew much more than she let on. How do I put this? She had much more control and influence, is the best way I can think to try to explain this. If there had been no Nichol, this all reads like there would have been no murders (no outside influence). Which is such a strange and weird thought. That one person can exert that much control over people and situations. There are cards that depict Nichol as being involved in – or having knowledge of – an overall plan. To what extent, I don’t know. If the cards are to be believed, she’s not being truthful.

I want to mention something else. A while back, I was practicing these kinds of readings by doing ones on cases I had little to no knowledge about. I did one reading on this case and recorded the cards that I pulled. Since Chris had already confessed and been convicted by the time I did the reading, I asked about motive. The cards I pulled were the Lovers reversed, the Page of Wands (with the 3 of Cups), and the Hierophant.

I was baffled by these cards at the time – especially since I had little knowledge of the case (to the point where I didn’t even know Chris was cheating prior to the reading) – and I spent a lot of time thinking about these cards after the reading was finished. One day, I was going over it in my mind when I realized that the Three of Cups and the Hierophant were showing me a very specific motive: the murders could have been intended to pave the way for Chris to have a more “traditional” relationship with Nichol. If accurate, they were telling me there was a plan for Chris and Nichol to marry. Both the Three of Cups and the Hierophant may represent a marriage or plans to marry as a primary motive, suggesting a greater degree of knowledge than Nichol has claimed to have. If true.

And who is this second male person that came up in the second reading?

Lindsey Baum

Disappearance: June 26, 2009
Location: McCleary, Washington

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. Lindsey Baum disappeared on July 26th of 2009. She was only a couple of blocks away from her home when it happened. Her remains were later found in 2018 in a wooded area far from her home. She was only ten years old at the time of her disappearance.

Lindsey Baum reading 1

The reading is about the person, or people, responsible for Lindsey’s disappearance and death. Prior to Lindsey’s disappearance, this person – or a primary person involved – is coming across as someone who had experienced some success in their life and had a sense of confidence. They may have been recognized for, or celebrating, achievements or accomplishments.

Death is a card that indicates significant changes. In many cases, the changes are for the better in the long run. However, sometimes they cause disruptions or upheavals that change a person in negative ways. Whatever happened, the person transitioned from one way of life into another.

The Moon reversed suggests that there are truths that will come to light about this person. Their identity, and their deeds, will not remain unknown indefinitely.

The Knight of Pentacles reversed is suggesting this is either a younger male (likely an adult) or someone who acts as though they are in their late teens or twenties – even if they are older than that. While I find that the court cards tend to stick to the gender they represent for the Queen and King cards the most, they can and do sometimes represent the opposite gender. I say this because I cannot completely rule out female involvement here. This would be a person who was, at the time, focused on a lot on material possessions and/or money. They may not have changed much since either. People depicted by this card behave irresponsibly and tend to make promises that they don’t deliver on. They may have gambling or other kinds of vices that impact their financial situation negatively in the long-run.

The Seven of Swords, pulled in connection with the Knight of Pentacles reversed, is a card that shows this person behaving in deceitful and underhanded ways. The card may point to a theft, or series of thefts. In this case, it could be depicting the kidnapping of Lindsey. An important aspect of this card is that it represents someone who is getting away with their behavior because they are good at lying and adept at manipulating those around them.

The Three of Swords is showing someone who went through heartbreak or some kind of grief. So I’m wondering if the death of someone close to this person, or the loss of a relationship they deemed important, was the catalyst for the changes that were conveyed through the Death card. This person experienced notable emotional distress pertaining to a relationship (romantic of familial) relationship.

The Ace of Cups reversed then shows me that this person did not move on from their pain and were not able to get a handle on the issues they were having. This card typically pertains to matters relating to feelings, relationships, or love. It can also sometimes indicate that someone has experienced a miscarriage or pregnancy issues – though that is not always the case when it appears. Those are just some different meanings it can have in this kind of context.

The Page of Swords either represented a person or a message. If it represented a person, it was a child who was intelligent, logical, and inquisitive. If it pertained to a message then it was one that occurred via speaking to someone in person, phone call, text message, internet chat, or some other similar method. If this represents Lindsey, then it is showing she questioned this person and spoke out about him. I don’t know if this is implying that she called him out directly or if it is trying to suggest she knew them ahead of time and had misgivings about the person. People represented by the Page of Swords are intelligent and they typically love to talk and so this would be someone chatty and good with words.

I pulled the Devil reversed as the card connected to the Page of Swords. This is a card that usually shows someone as trying to regain control or freedom over their life. If the Page of Swords represents Lindsey, the implication is that she tried to get away from this person. She tried to get out from under their control.

The Nine of Pentacles usually has positive implications in terms of one’s financial situation. It would have represented someone who had some degree of financial freedom of independence. In readings on past cases, this card has come up in situations where the perpetrator either had their own residence or had access to one where they could have privacy.

The Two of Pentacles reversed is showing me someone who made bad financial decisions and probably became overextended financially. Part of this might tie back to the card that talked about someone who gambles or has some kind of vice that causes them to lose a lot of money. So in the present, I would not expect this person to present as someone who is doing well financially – though in the past it seems that they had a better financial situation. This is also someone who will probably come across as disorganized in general.

Question: What do we need to know about the murder of Lindsey Baum?

Lindsey Baum reading 2

Two cards that appeared in both readings include the Two of Pentacles reversed and the Ace of Cups reversed. Those cards, and their meaning, is significant. The Two of Pentacles reversed is a person who is either on the verge of a financial crisis or they are experiencing one presently.

The Four of Swords reversed shows a person who might have been quite isolated in the recent and/or distant past but has been coming out of that. However, it also a card that sometimes comes up in this position when it is describing someone who is having a mental health breakdown, or who is feeling extremely burnt out.

The Ace of Cups reversed is a card of pain and sadness. There is a theme to this card that I see sometimes in readings, and I feel more inclined to apply it in this one due to the presence of the Two of Cups reversed. At times, this card refers to unrequited love or relationships that have ended in a way that leaves one person feeling as though they cannot move on. When it pertains to females, it can point to pregnancy issues or infertility.

The Knight of Cups is a person who is younger in age – or behaves similarly to someone who is a young adult – and is a sensitive or emotional type of person. The Sun reversed, pulled in connection with this card, could be pointing to someone who is depressed and pessimistic. However, I have to bring up the topic of pregnancy issues once again since I have seen these arise with the Sun reversed. Sometimes it also refers to adoption or problems adopting. I can’t quite figure out if this situation potentially involves or involved a couple because these themes are so prominent that they are hard to ignore at this point.

The Two of Cups reversed points to a romantic relationship or a connection between two people that went terribly wrong. Maybe if there was a couple involved, they are no longer together for whatever reason because this is a card that comes up when relationships are either in the process of ending or have already concluded. There is often a lot of disruption that comes with this card as well, such as conflict and arguments between the people involved. If that’s true, there is a possibility one might turn on the other. But if there are two people involved, they might not want to talk because of their own culpability.

There’s another possibility that has come to my mind a few times during the readings. This could have been someone known to Lindsey and/or her family because there are so many cards pointing toward heartbreak and pain that pertains to a loss. It feels like the crime was motivated by that loss – as though there could be a retaliation dynamic or something of that nature. I don’t know. That’s just a weird feeling I keep getting here.

The Four of Cups reversed is a card people get when they are reawakening and getting back into the swing of their life again. It usually follows a time period of difficulty or one where a person lacks direction. So if this person hasn’t been particularly social or active in the recent past, that seems to be changing for them – though it’s hard to say what is motivating it.

I want to point something out and it might not be important. In the article that provided me with the date of her disappearance, and the date she was found, it said she was found in a wooded area in Kittitas County. That appears to be several hours away from where Lindsey lived but I don’t know the area so I’m not sure. If it is a distance away, it implies that the person that took her may have known her in some way and might have put her body that far away in the hopes that it would not be found, and/or that if it was found that they would not be an immediate or obvious suspect due to its location. That just stood out to me.

Question: Who or what caused the disappearance of Leah Croucher?

Row 1
Queen of Pentacles (reversed) – Queen of Cups – The World
Card pulled for the Queen of Pentacles (r): King of Cups
Card pulled for the King of Cups (r): 3 of Cups
Card pulled for the Queen of Cups: 7 of Swords (reversed)

Row 2
King of Wands (reversed) – The Empress – 5 of Pentacles (reversed)
Card pulled for the King of Wands (r): Death

Row 3
High Priestess (reversed) – 7 of Pentacles (reversed) – Hanged Man

Leah Croucher reading 1

The reading is beginning with what appears to be an adult female, an adult male, and the Three of Cups. The Queen of Pentacles reversed is the female depicted in the first card. The attributes associated with this card in its reversed position are not generally positive ones. They describe a person who is jealous, controlling, can behave in ways that are dangerous and/or sociopathic, and tends to be manipulative. If such a person is a parent, they are possibly abuse or neglectful.

The King of Cups is a mature male that comes across as caring, sensitive, and kind. This is usually someone who will listen to people and show compassion. A person represented by this card is typically a good parent (when it depicts a father figure, which is not always the case).

The Three of Cups is showing that there was a celebration of sorts between these two – or something planned perhaps. The Three of Cups is often a happy card in terms of representing social gatherings, weddings, parties, etc. So these three cards were shown to me in reference to my question about who or what caused Leah’s disappearance. There is a possibility it is referring to a current or past marriage between them, or an engagement possibly.

The Queen of Cups is the next card within the first row. I don’t know who this represents specifically. It might represent Leah, though the Queen cards often depict someone a bit older (but not always) or someone that has knowledge about what happened – either as a witness to something or they may have been given information. Whatever it is, it is important because they are showing up so early on in the reading.

What’s weird is that the card associated with the Queen of Cups is one that typically depicts someone who has done one or more bad things that are bothering their conscience. Often, people in this position will confess what is on their mind to someone or else they will live with a strong compulsion to tell what they know. However, this is also a card that represents dishonesty and behaving in a manner that is two-faced. I’m not sure what that’s all about here but it all reads like this person has critical knowledge. I don’t know if the cards are implying that they are directly involved in any way or not.

The World, in these readings, is a card of cycles. In its upright position it usually depicts a situation or circumstance that has come full circle. However, what that means specifically is not known to me at this time.

The King of Wands reversed either represents a new person in this entire equation or depicts someone who has already been introduced in this reading acting in a manner consistent with the description of this card. In its reversed position, such a person is usually forceful, aggressive, vicious, manipulative, and capable of violence. Again, I don’t know if this is a new person or if this is someone depicted on the first row. This person is someone who probably exhibits violent tendencies and has a volatile temper. People who know this person would recognize these qualities about them.

The card pulled in relation to the King of Wands reversed was Death. The Death card in its upright position can represent major changes or upheavals. A lot of times these changes or disruptions ultimately lead to something better – or at least that appears to have been the perspective of the person in the King of Wands reversed position. So I can’t tell if whatever happened in regard to this card was positive or negative – since it is directly associated with that individual, versus the reading as a whole.

The Empress could have different meaning here, but I want to put it out on the table that it is possible Leah was pregnant. The Empress is a card of pregnancy and fertility, though it has other meanings as well.

The Five of Pentacles reversed is indicated a situation where someone feels as though they are reaching the end of a hardship – particularly a financial one or something that involved material matters. It can represent a means of employment or paying off debts.

The last row begins with the High Priestess reversed. This is a card of secrets, lies, betrayal, and sometimes hidden enemies or agendas. It can also represent someone with fertility issues, and this is the second card to address fertility in this reading.

The Seven of Pentacles reversed is a card that shows someone who doesn’t, or hasn’t, finished what they started. It is someone that didn’t properly follow through with something – either out of laziness or for other types of reasons.

The Hanged Man depicts a situation where someone feels trapped, restricted, and limited in their options. Sometimes it represents the process of letting go of something or making a sacrifice for a higher good or cause.

Question: What circumstances caused the disappearance of Leah Croucher?

Row 1
Fool (reversed) – 3 of Pentacles (reversed) – 4 of Pentacles (reversed)

Row 2
9 of Wands (reversed) – The Emperor – 8 of Swords

Row 3
5 of Swords – The Hermit – High Priestess (reversed)

Leah Croucher reading 2

After asking the cards to provide information about the circumstances that caused Leah’s disappearance, the first card to appear was the Fool reversed. This card describes a situation where someone like Leah might have taken a risk or acted without fully thinking about possible consequences – or the potential bad intentions of someone else.

The Three of Pentacles reversed comes up when there is a problem with cooperation or some kind of effort involving two or more people – often three, but not always. It also represents a person who hasn’t learned from their past mistakes and may not have any clear goals, or they may lack motivation in general.

The Four of Pentacles reversed is a card showing someone that sheds elements of their old life or experiences financial loss or instability. Sometimes the loss occurs because the person gives too much to other people or gives away things of value when they are not really getting anything in return.

In the second row, we have the Nine of Wands reversed, the Emperor, and the Eight of Swords. So the cards are pointing to there being an older male figure involved in all of this. The nine of Wands is showing someone refusing to compromise or refusing to let go of something. It is also another card indicating a lack of learning from past mistakes. It’s also a card indicating that a person does not feel they have a lot of fight left in them.

The Emperor, between these two cards appears to be the direct cause of someone going from feeling like they don’t have the energy to continue to fight, and feeling trapped or helpless in a situation as evidenced by the Eight of Swords. The Eight of Swords can sometimes even refer to actual imprisonment, as well as feeling silenced or paralyzed by fear.

The Emperor is a person who has some degree of authority or power – for whatever reason. This might help to shield them from scrutiny or suspicion so that is something to consider when trying to identify the man involved in this. It is an older male and typically someone established in terms of their life and/or career.

The Five of Swords indicates that a significant conflict occurred. At a minimum, it represents a volatile type of argument or altercation. However, at its worse it can represent criminal acts such as murder or rape.

The Hermit suggests that someone wanted to walk away from the conflict – or get away from it. It is a card of self-reflection and introspection so it can show someone thinking hard about a situation and pondering what it all means. Because the question was about Leah, cards such as this one likely represents how she was feeling and reacting to the circumstances surrounding her.

The High Priestess reversed came up in Leah’s first reading and it is back again for the second. It’s a card that can point to a few different types of situations. First, it can represent secrets, betrayal, and agendas that are not known to everyone involved. In some cases it can refer to fertility issues. In others it can represent a person experiencing a blocked sense of intuition. It comes up a lot of times in a situation where someone has a gut feeling that they should or should not do something, but for whatever reason they doubt it and do not heed the call.

Jennifer Kesse was 24 years old when she reportedly vanished on January 23rd of 2006. It is unknown exactly what time she disappeared or what she was doing when it happened. Jennifer still remains missing.

Question: Who or what caused the disappearance of Jennifer Kesse?

Row 1
Death – The Chariot – The Empress

Row 2
Knight of Cups – The Lovers – Ten of Pentacles
Card pulled for the Knight of Cups: Knight of Wands (reversed)
Card pulled for the Knight of Wands (r): Page of Swords (reversed)
Card pulled for the Page of Swords (r): 10 of Cups (reversed)

Row 3
The Emperor (reversed) – Knight of Swords – 2 of Swords
Card pulled for the Knight of Swords: 3 of Wands

Jennifer Kesse reading 1

The first card in the reading that asks who or what caused Jennifer’s disappearance is death. The card usually depicts a major change, shift, or upheaval. Often it is one that allows for positive events to subsequently occur; however, there are cards later in the reading that point to a disruptive event that was harmful.

Sometimes tarot cards are literal in their depictions – especially when trying to clue into what might have happened to people and where these events occurred. In this case, the Chariot likely refers to either evidence associated with a vehicle, or the occurrence of events inside – or in association with – a vehicle.

The Empress is a card that usually represents abundance, fertility, and other positive elements of life and existence. In this case, it could speak to the motive in that Jennifer was an attractive woman and her femininity likely caused a lot of people to take notice of her.

The disappearance appears linked to an encounter that Jennifer had with an individual who demonstrated the attributes associated with the Knight of Cups card. These characteristics would be associated with a younger male adult who came across as sensitive, helpful, and gentlemanly. The card can also come up as an indication of a romantic proposal of sorts. Since the Knight of Wands reversed is the card pulled in connection with the Knight of Cups, it makes me think that one of two scenarios is likely here. The first possibility is that the person fitting the description of the Knight of Wands reversed had some kind of romantic interest in Jennifer that was communicated, but not well received. The reason I say this is because the Page of Swords reversed was pulled for the Knight of Wands reversed and this indicates bad news or a negative communication/interaction that might have occurred.

The second possibility is that there were two younger adult males involved in Jennifer’s disappearance. Just based on this first reading, I am unable to decide which scenario is the most probable. However, I am leaning in the direction of the first one. It is reading like someone made a romantic pass at Jennifer and was either getting back at her for her reaction or responded badly to her reaction.

The Ten of Cups reversed was pulled in connection with the cards described in the above two paragraphs. This is a card depicting an unhappy homelife. It can also indicate events that happened “close to home.” It might indicate that someone who lived near Jennifer was involved, or someone who had some kind of link to her home or family. There is the possibility the card refers to the other person’s homelife in terms of indicated it was a bad or abusive one.

The Lovers is coming up and given the rest of the reading, it seems to support the idea that someone was interested in Jennifer romantically and the motive behind all of this was linked to that attraction. The motive as in the decision/s someone made in this situation.

The Ten of Pentacles implies the desire of another person to catch the interest of, or potentially even marry, someone that they perceive as being in a higher social class. I’m not sure how else to explain it – other than to say in this context it reads like someone knew Jennifer was out of their league, but they were hoping the circumstances would pan out in their favor anyway.

The Emperor reversed is a male figure who abuses his position or power in a given situation. It is someone who is rigid and inflexible. A person exhibiting the attributes of this card is a control freak at heart and someone who needs to feel as though they have the control or power in a situation. This might explain how and why a romantic interest someone might have had in Jennifer could have gone so completely wrong.

The Knight of Swords may represent the male figure already introduced, or someone else. Either way, this is a person who is impatient and impulsive. Such a person would tend to come across as aggressive in their communications at times and also seem inflexible in terms of their views on different matters.

In these kinds of readings, if I get the Three of Wands in direct connection with a court card, it usually means that person traveled away from the area within a short period of time after the disappearance occurred. Often the travel is a long distance – so not something like a half hour away is what I’m trying to say here. Not usually, at least.

The Two of Swords indicates a situation where someone does not want to see the truth about a situation and are in a kind of denial about it. I don’t know who this card is meant to refer to, though I might have a better idea after the second reading.

Question: What circumstances caused the disappearance of Jennifer Kesse?

Row 1
Temperance (reversed) – 2 of Swords (reversed) – Lovers (reversed)

Row 2
6 of Wands (reversed) – Empress (reversed) – 8 of Pentacles (reversed)

Row 3
9 of Wands (reversed) – 5 of Wands – Death (reversed)

Jennifer Kesse reading 2

Temperance reversed is showing a conflict and/or an altercation. So it does seem to reiterate that there was an interaction that occurred between Jennifer and at least one other person that went poorly.

The Two of Swords reversed is a card that comes up when the truth about something or someone becomes evident. It can also denote a sense of fear or panic because it is a card that indicates lies have been exposed or that a situation/person is much more harmful than a person might have originally thought. In the last reading, we left off with the Two of Swords in its upright position – suggesting that someone was blind to the truth about something. Here, however, we see a scenario where a person can no longer ignore the obvious.

The Lovers reversed is the opposite of what came up in the prior reading. It is showing a situation between two people that has turned toxic or harmful. In the first reading, it appeared that someone was motivated to approach Jennifer or get her attention somehow because of their attraction to her. Here we see the person’s reaction when that hope, or intent does not materialize. The card also shows the feelings were not mutual. Often, this card also represents a very bad decision – one with significant consequences.

The Six of Wands reversed makes me think that a lot of this was ultimately about ego and the other person responded badly to being rejected. It denotes conflict stemming from those kinds of feelings or drives.

The Empress reversed could show how this person’s view of Jennifer suddenly flipped to one that was negative. Before she seemed the epitome of the ideal female, but now she is viewed as something else entirely. None of this has anything to do with the reality of who Jennifer was because it appears to be about someone else’s ego and inability to handle rejection. It might have other additional meaning here that I’m not quite picking up on.

The Eight of Pentacles reversed shows me someone who has a boring job that is not high paying and does not have really good prospects for the future. It can also represent someone who does not handle their finances well and lacks overall ambition. However, the flipside to this card and it’s unique positioning in this reading is it seems to be pointing out that the person’s job has some kind of significance. I don’t want to read too much into this; I just want to point it out.

The Nine of Wands reversed is telling me a few different things about this person involved. First, I doubt highly this was the first time they reacted really badly to a situation because it is indicating a tendency to repeat negative patterns of behavior. Second, it is reiterating what was expressed with the first reading and the Emperor reversed: this person would not back down. They were rigid in their thinking and intent on being “right.”

The Five of Wands is another conflict card that is showing this as being rooted in a situation where two or more people did not have a meeting of the minds. There might be more than one other person involved in all this, but there is one primary player and that is who these readings seem to have focused on. But the Five of Wands might point to multiple people knowing and having different feelings about keeping that knowledge to themselves. They might also have different reasons for hiding their knowledge. If that’s the case, my hope is one of them will talk and share what they know. It definitely feels like more than one person has at least some knowledge about all of this – if not some involvement that would be incriminating.

Death reversed is another card that is saying to me the person involved – or the main person, because I truly cannot get a feel for whether there were others – did not, and has not, learned from past mistakes. With this much time having passed, I would not be surprised if this person has harmed other people and possibly even done prison time. This is not someone who learned their lesson and they probably do not feel they were in error either.

I don’t know what evidence the police might have regarding this case. I would look for evidence associated with her vehicle (because of the Chariot card that came up early on). If there are prints or DNA, it would be worth periodically running them because the readings come across like this person has or will do prison time for something. So I’m hoping the police have some kind of evidence that maybe did not yield any results in the past but might now or in the coming years.

Question: What happened to Jake Latiolais to cause her disappearance in 2014?

Row 1
6 of Pentacles – 3 of Pentacles (reversed) – 3 of Wands

Row 2
10 of Cups (reversed) – The Magician – Temperance

Row 3
King of Cups – 7 of Swords – 10 of Swords
Card pulled for the King of Cups: 8 of Cups (reversed)

Jake Latiolais reading 1

Disclaimer: Tarot readings should not be taken as absolute claims that something did or did not happen. I only report the meaning of the cards, their relationships and the meaning in the context of those relationships, as well as intuitions I have based entirely on the cards presented in the reading. When/if I say that something happened, in any part of a reading description, I mean that is what I am interpreting from the cards, their positions, and other related factors.

Jake Latiolais disappeared on August 28th of 2014. He was 22 years old at the time. He was reportedly last seen in a Walmart that was located in Port Allen, Louisiana. His truck was found running and abandoned in the early morning hours of August 29th – on the Interstate 10 bridge that crosses the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge. No known confirmed sightings occurred after the sighting in Walmart.

The Six of Pentacles is a card that suggests there was a situation or scenario in which Jake was giving or exchanging something of material or monetary value. It is a card that usually depicts some kind of material support or assistance.

The Three of Pentacles reversed is showing me a situation where people were not working well together to complete or accomplish something. There is a sense of being undermined here – like someone is too competitive or is sabotaging efforts on purpose. It can be a situation where people also have competing agendas. I would expect this to pertain to a home or work situation.

The Three of Wands is a card that can convey a few different meanings. First, it is sometimes associated with someone who is making plans to travel – or has already started that process. Second, it can represent a person taking solid steps toward a goal and seeking independence or freedom from something else.

These three cards are reading as though the collaboration or group effort was not working out or going well. I don’t know if this was a work or family situation yet. The Three of Wands is coming across as a desire on Jake’s part to put distance between himself and whoever else all of this is alluding to in terms of being involved. I find that a lot of times the desire to create a sense of distance is both mental and physical (as in the person leaves the location or wants to). This was a stressful situation.

The Ten of Cups reversed refers to an unhappy home life. This appears to answer my question as to whether it was a home or work situation because the Ten of Cups is a family and home life type of card. A work situation could still be at play here, in combination. I don’t know if he was having issues with a particular family member or what might have been going on here. The card is showing dysfunction in this area that is somehow relevant to all of this. I have no idea if Jake was in a relationship, or was estranged from someone, but this card points directly to problems in this area – pertaining to immediate family or previously close romantic partnerships.

The Magician can represent a person, or it can represent resources or talents a person is demonstrating. If this matches a specific person, it is someone who comes across as skilled and resourceful. It could also represent resources and/or talents that Jake had at the time – assistive ones that could have helped him achieve specific goals that he had.

Temperance is showing me that Jake wanted peace and tranquility in his life. He was trying to take actions toward that end. In a reading like this, it shows a person who is experiencing turmoil around him but is remaining calm despite it all. So there is this sense of him continuing to try to work toward goals, and do what he was supposed to do in terms of work and what-not, despite what looks like some chaos or drama.

The King of Cups likely represents a male that was in Jake’s life at the time. Sometimes court cards represent genders other than what is depicted on the card, but typically the Kings and Queens stay true to what is represented when I do these kinds of readings. The Eight of Cups reversed is telling me Jake had some kind of situation with this person that was no longer proving beneficial, and that he knew he needed to get away from. However, it is showing a reluctance to do that – despite knowing that it would be best. This person knows a lot more about everything that transpired than they are likely claiming.

The Seven of Swords is a card that could mean one of two very specific things. Either the person depicted in the King’s position was operating in a way that was deceptive, cunning, and sneaky, or Jake was exhibiting those behaviors. This is a card that comes with a sense of betrayal – where someone has done something that is deceptive that creates a scenario where another person (or people) was treated unjustly. They were wronged and/or betrayed, basically. The impression I am getting here is that Jake was the person wronged, but an additional reading may clarify this more.

I don’t like seeing the Ten of Swords at the end of this reading. It does not bode well, although it is important to point out that these readings do not tell me, with absolute certainty, a person’s current status or well-being. This card is telling me that he was betrayed and victimized in some way. It marks a sudden and ruinous type of end to something. I want to do another reading before I really draw further conclusions about this aspect though. If one or more people is responsible for whatever happened to Jake, we are looking at a person or people that he knew well enough to feel betrayed by. This would not have been a random stranger or even a person he only knew in passing, in my opinion – based on what I am getting from this reading. But again, this is just a tarot reading. None of this should be taken as fact without some kind of solid evidence to support it.

Question: Who or what caused Jake Latiolais’ disappearance in 2014?

Row 1
5 of Wands – 3 of Cups (reversed) – Page of Swords
Card pulled for the Page of Swords: 8 of Pentacles

Row 2
8 of Cups – Wheel of Fortune (reversed) – The World

Row 3
The Star – The Hermit – 6 of Swords (reversed)

Jake Latiolais reading 2

The Five of Wands is reiterating what the first reading was trying to convey about something Jake was trying to do – for lack of a better word – cooperatively with at least one other person. There is a sense more than two people are involved though. I don’t know the nature of what it is he was trying to work with someone one, but what happened to him is linked to this – and the person or people involved. The card shows people who are operating at cross-purposes. At a minimum, it can represent a competitive air to a situation where people are fighting for or over something. But it can also represent conflicts of a greater magnitude, such as aggression and arguments. It seems that at least one person was clashing with Jake.

The Three of Cups reversed shows an imbalance in his social and/or personal life. It is reading as though the person or people mentioned above are people that were in his immediate social circle. The reversed aspect of this card shows someone who feels like they have been cast out from something and they are potentially the victim of gossip. If he had any plans for any celebrations, this card would indicate those being canceled. If he had plans to do something that would be described as a life milestone, something happened to change that. Also, I want to say that intuitively I am getting the thought that someone he thought was a friend really wasn’t. But there’s more to all this than just that. There is a bigger picture is what I’m trying to say.

The Page of Swords is a card that often comes up when a person is either expecting news or has just received it. The Eight of Pentacles tells me it was pertaining to a job or some kind of opportunity that Jake would have viewed as beneficial. I don’t know how this is related precisely, but it might hint to look into methods of contact that are quick in nature (calls, emails, texts, or in person).

The Eight of Cups is a card that depicts a person walking away from a situation or person in their life. This is an important card to pay attention to because it came up in the first reading, in reference to the King of Cups, in a reversed position. It is possible that his attempt, and desire, to walk away is what triggered the events to come.

The Wheel of Fortune reversed is what makes me think something went wrong at about this time. Jake’s luck changed – seemingly for the worse – due to circumstances beyond his control. Again, it appears to be linked to the Eight of Cups which is showing him as trying to leave something behind that was causing him problems or no longer serving him in a positive way.

The concerning aspect of The World, in this position and next to the Wheel reversed, is that it is a card depicting the completion of a cycle. On its own, it seems positive and encouraging. The Wheel reversed, combined with the Ten of Swords at the conclusion of the last reading, worries me.

This late in a reading, the Star is a card I get when the answers are available that will come forth at some point. I pulled this card on a reading I did for Cleo Smith, the missing girl in Australia who was recently found, and so I tend to interpret this as a sign that the answers will be provided. At least one person out there has them or there is evidence to be found that will clarify this situation.

The Hermit represents a person who is turning to introspection for further answers about their life or situation. A person that is depicted by this card might choose to withdraw and keep to themselves during this process.

The Six of Swords (reversed) indicates canceled travel plans and trouble on the horizon. I think Jake might have planned to try to get away from some kind of situation he was facing, but something happened to prevent that. It is a card depicting a boat on water and sometimes the tarot cards are quite literal in what they are showing so there is a possibility there is relevance there as well.

Question: What will it take to find Jake?

6 of Earth (reversed) – Son of Earth – 2 of Earth

Jake Latiolais reading 3

I asked the cards what it would take to find Jake. The Six of Earth reversed is showing a lot of obstacles to successfully getting answers and finding resolution in this. It is conveying the sense of frustration and difficulty experienced thus far. The Son of Earth is telling me that getting the answers requires stamina and perseverance. They will not come immediately, and they may not come easily. The card may also represent a male person who could shed a lot of light on this situation. The 2 of Earth is telling me that people seeking answers must step back, abandon preconceived notions they have, and re-evaluate everything as objectively as possible. It is suggesting there are missed opportunities for gathering pertinent information or insight. Maybe avenues that originally seemed pointless are now worth investigating. Time has passed now and people might be more inclined to share details that they previously wouldn’t.

As always, nothing written here should be taken as fact unless the details have been proven accurate. I hope for a positive resolution or at the very least some clear answers about what happened to bring his loved ones some peace.

When/if I say that something happened, in any part of a reading description, I mean that is what I am interpreting from the cards, their positions, and other related factors.

Emma Fillipoff was 26 years old when she disappeared on November 28th of 2012 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. She was last reportedly seen in front of the Empress Hotel in the evening.

Note: After doing all of the readings I have done below, I want to present the possibility that Emma might have joined a group or a cult – something that is off the grid. If this has been ruled out then disregard it, but as you read through you will see why I’m putting that possibility on the table. That said, tarot readings should not be taken as factual unless there is solid evidence backing them up. I have no way to know for sure what has really happened.

The first reading is showing a lot going on. The Six of Wands reversed is showing me that she felt a lack of confidence in herself and her abilities at the time of her disappearance. It feels like this is connected to her feeling as though she wasn’t really achieving up to her full potential. She also might have felt like she wasn’t recognized for the things she had – or did – achieve.

The Six of Swords reversed is telling me that there were past issues that had resurfaced in her life. It denotes a sense of feeling trapped by these issues and also potentially returning to problem people or situations that Emma might have previously tried to discard. I would best describe this as the past coming back to haunt a person. In the past, she may have run from the situation or tried to extricate herself in a manner that wouldn’t rock the boat. However, at the time of her disappearance, she either didn’t feel that was an option again or she felt cornered.

An aspect of this reading that is going to become difficult on an intuitive level, for me, is separating all of the thoughts and worries in Emma’s mind at the time from events that truly took place. I am seeing a lot of both going on here and I am going to have to try to untangle all of that to pinpoint what happened.

The Two of Swords reversed is a card that suggests Emma was overloaded with thoughts and information, struggling to sift through it all to make a choice, and coming to some difficult realizations that she hadn’t pieced together previously. This is a card of mental and emotion turmoil, as well as one indicating that the veil has been lifted on a situation that was once clouded by lies and deception.

The Hermit reversed shows a willing withdrawal from one’s social network or social support system. Motives for this tend to fall along the lines of a sense of loneliness and/or rejection. It is almost as though she went from exhibiting extraverted personality traits to becoming excessively introverted.

The Four of Cups communicates a desire to have a fresh start. She wanted to break free of a situation or problem that felt profoundly oppressive to her. The problem is that she also seemed to feel trapped and cornered. The logical question in this kind of situation is how do you make a fresh start if you feel that you can’t go anywhere at all?

The Devil reversed shows that she was trying to break free of some serious problems. It is as though she felt bound to something in a guilt by association kind of way. She wanted independence and freedom in relation to whatever this issue was that was coming back to haunt her. I am getting the thought that these problems weren’t exactly her own. She was carrying burdens of or for other people too. And I want to reiterate that these are past issues rising to the forefront. Not entirely new ones.

The Nine of Wands reversed suggests that Emma was feeling unusually defensive. A challenge associated with reading this card is that it does not provide a clear distinction for when defensiveness is in response to real events or when it is more of a mental obstacle that is restricting a person’s ability to function as they would normally. It can be equated to living in one’s own prison – where they have put up boundaries when they may not need them.

The Six of Cups reversed still shows Emma as living in the past. Given some of the other cards, I think she was trying to psych herself up to leave her situation and try to start anew. I am not saying that she was trying to completely abandon her old life necessarily, but she was definitely trying to put boundaries and distance between herself and her past. I feel like there is someone out there, who knew Emma really well, who would read something like this and know what it refers to in a specific sense.

The Ten of Cups is a card that depicts returning home and experiencing the safety or security of one’s home environment. I would like to read this as a clue that she may return home at some point. But the cynical side of me feels inclined to set this card aside and see what the next reading shows to figure out what its relevance is here. The Ten of Cups is a positive card though and it is one that suggests happy resolutions or endings.

Emma Fillipoff reading 2

The Three of Swords reversed pertains to recovering from a broken heart or getting over a significantly distressing emotional matter. It can point to a reconciliation with someone or a situation where a person forgives another for hurtful actions. It does not always pertain to romantic relationships, though.

The Magician reversed is never a card I like to see in these cases because it represents a dishonest person who uses their authority or influence to manipulate and trick people. People depicted by this card may come across as capable and decent, but at a minimum this card reversed depicts someone who manipulates and creates false realities. I don’t know if this Magician reversed person has anything to do with whoever the first card pertains to as this could be a situation where this person was exploiting some weaknesses Emma already had.

The Hanged man reversed shows that someone was stalling for time and feeling indecisive. It’s possible that Emma had some kind of encounter or interaction with this person that made her uncomfortable and she was trying to buy time to figure out what to do. This might all tie in with the Two of Swords reversed that appeared in the last reading – where one or more truths came to light. So there is a possibility here that she uncovered something disturbing about a person and it freaked her out. I don’t know if she was being asked to decide about something or what, but she did appear to be trying to slow things down.

The Ace of Wands, in the context of these readings, feels like a situation where her heart really wasn’t into something. I don’t know if it was the prospect of a relationship or something the Magician reversed was proposing to her or what. It just comes across as a block of some kind that was keeping her from moving forward.

The Page of Swords reversed is coming across in two ways. First, it is representing someone who speaks hastily and tends to say rude or hurtful things. Second, it also reads as a message. It’s like she was receiving some kind of threat or multiple threats.

The Hierophant reversed is the card I pulled in relation to the Page reversed and it’s telling me that whoever the Page represents had no regard for rules or structure. This would be someone considered a non-conformist who challenged conventions. That could potentially be positive in an otherwise hopeful type of spread, but here it just makes me think of someone who manipulates the law and people to get away with things they shouldn’t be doing. The non-conformist element of their personality might have come across as immature to people also and that could explain the Page as showing up for a person that might be older in years than the card implies. The Hierophant reversed could also signify a situation of religious or spiritual extremism – something outside of the bounds of what many consider normal.

The High Priestess reversed is reiterating the whole theme of manipulation and hidden motives. It might also represent Emma in terms of her reluctance to make a solid decision concerning whatever was going on. The first reading shows her as experiencing a high degree of stress and concern. This card is pointing to a need to take a rational approach that aligns with one’s intuition, but I don’t get the sense Emma felt she had the time needed to accomplish that. There is also this underlying sense of false spirituality. I can’t quite pinpoint it.

The Fool depicts Emma as embarking on a particular path with a blind sense of trust or idealism. I wonder if the person who is coming across as deceptive and manipulative talked her into trusting them under the guise of protecting her and keeping her safe from whatever she feared or worried about – issues that were possibly not as serious as Emma had worked them up to be in her mind. I also can’t shake the feeling that someone was feeding her anxiety as a means of getting her to do something she might not ordinarily do – like go somewhere with them or something along those lines. There is such a sense of gaslighting and manipulation I am getting here.

The Five of Swords shows conflict and arguments. It also has a feel of someone using intimidation tactics. The Five of Swords can depict one or more acts of violence or abuse. There can also be a surrendering component to this card where Emma might have tried to stand up for herself, failed, and ultimately felt defeated.

The Nine of Cups is not a happy card. In terms of the “who or what” aspect of this question, this card tells me that whoever else was involved here brought unhappiness to Emma’s life. But it doesn’t tell me if she sought out a new life because of this person or if they might have done something to cause her to disappear temporarily or permanently. I don’t want to rule out the possibility of kidnapping here because the Devil card – from the first reading – could represent an obsession someone had with her that she was trying to break free from. It is reading as though she was manipulated into going with this person – like she wasn’t necessarily taken by a conventional type of force. I don’t know how else to articulate this.

Question: Did someone take Emma Fillipoff?

Son of Earth (reversed) – The Empress (reversed) – 9 of Fire

Emma Fillipoff reading 3

The Son of Earth reversed is equivalent to the Knight of Pentacles reversed. This represents the person involved in her disappearance. I use the word involved because neither reading has definitively given me an understanding of Emma’s current status. The Empress reversed, in combination with the Son of Earth reversed, is showing someone who is overbearing and controlling. The Nine of Fire has me stumped. In the deck I used, it pertains to the energy that drives aspects of life such as one’s free will, spirituality, etc.

I used the word “take” in my question and this card seems to challenge the idea that she went completely unwillingly. I just got weird Midsommar (the movie) type vibes. Has anyone examined whether she might have joined some kind of group or cult? It could even just be some type of off the grid community situation. I understand that sounds crazy but it’s worth looking into if the possibility has not already been exhausted. It would explain a lot that has been touched on in all of the readings that I haven’t quite been able to make sense of. It could potentially also explain the Ten of Cups card from the first reading that hints to some kind of homecoming at some point. This is an odd situation to say the least. It doesn’t have quite the same energy and feel to it that a lot of other missing person cases do.

As always, I have no way to be certain about what happened to her. There are many possibilities. My hope is that somehow she is alive and well.
